I record with this unit EVERYDAY and I have not updated the firmware yet and I really could care less about the blue tooth feature and I am not an apple user but I would not give this unit up for anything! Best purchase I have made in a long time and after I got used to the features and the functions I learned a few little tricks to using it as a DAW with more efficiency and ease. Thanks for the video you were a big help in the beginning!.
You are very welcome. Glad the videos have helped. I would say, even though you're not using the bluetooth app (it's definitely not necessary) I would still recommend you update the firmware because the updates have fixed several recording bugs along the way. I think there are probably still more bugs to be worked out, but you do want to have firmware that does the best job to preserve your recordings.
This did happen to me one time. Now I simply wait a few seconds until I see the wave file in the track and then hit stop once again. If you hit stop twice immediately it can fail to complete the copy on the track and you could lose your sound, especially with tracks that have a large number of measures. Just a brief pause to allow the track to go from a solid color to a color with a wave in it and your set.
Yes, precisely. Glad I'm not crazy and the only one who has seen this bug. But the short pause after you record does seem to prevent it from happening.
Thanks again for the video Gaz. Another thing I’ve noticed when copying & pasting a region, if I do it too fast, the R20 will pause, and then I know I’m in trouble😅, because it puts the region somewhere else on the track. Actually it’s resulted in some happy accidents, but if you want the region where you’re pasting it, allow 4 or 5 seconds between each step. Otherwise, it could put a region over another one, I would imagine…
Totally solid tip. I think once you start to create a bunch of regions in your project (like getting up to 30 and above), you really start to run the risk of odd slow-down things happening, like what you explained here. You can always make it work, but being deliberate and slow with navigating the R20's menu options tends to give you better results.
Yeah the machine gets the "spins" haha and can go completely blank. I have also noticed when copy and pasting, and I haven't quite figures it all out yet but it will put the copied measures in the front of the track and not behind the measure set that was copied, you get this too?
@@Tom_Vince Yeah, I haven’t pinpointed WHERE it puts the region….seems like it’s at the next flag or something. Like I say, now I just take it slower 😄
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that bug at least a couple of times. I thought i had done something stupid! Shame to see no new features. It seems like the R20 has a lot of potential that could be realised by some improved firmware. I really must spend more time with it though. I’ve kind of ignored it lately.
That's good to know that I'm not crazy and the only one who's noticed that double-tap Stop button bug. I'm still hopeful that Zoom will continue to provide more functionality through firmware updates....but we'll have to wait and see what happens...
Hi Jose, Here is the video that explains how to run the firmware update: ua-cam.com/video/TBNtkzht09o/v-deo.html When you download that .zip folder from the Zoom website you will find the .BIN file for the update. But you'll also find a .PDF inside that folder that lists all of the modification changes from version 2.00 to 3.10.
Yep I've run across that bug a few times. I've noticed that it keeps the recording though... go to the main menu and come back and it appears.. Does the update fix that?
I don't think the update is designed to fix that bug. But I'm not entirely sure since the details are so minimal. I'm not sure if went back to the main menu and then returned to the project to see if the tracks re-appeared. I do know that after that recording bug happened I took the SD card out, popped it into my computer, and I couldn't see the tracks. If it happens to me again I'll try your technique and see if I can get the tracks to come back. Thanks for the feedback!
You can always jump to the most recent firmware and "skip" versions. Right now v3.3 is the most current version and you can go from v1.0 straight to v3.3 if you want. Here is the video about v3.3: ua-cam.com/video/9j6tSraUc74/v-deo.html And here is a general video about how to update your R20: ua-cam.com/video/TBNtkzht09o/v-deo.html
Still waiting for an option for using seperate track for a click track, to have it in a different tempo and/or time signatures. Old zoom R8 have it, but why not R20? Great video btw. :)
The dedicated track as a click would be very useful. But if you look at the schematic of how the R20 is wired, I'm not sure if that's possible, even with a software update. Different tempos and time signatures seems like something that could be fixed with firmware. It still seems curious to me why they don't have options for times like 5/8 and 5/4. People legitimately use that.
This would be a great feature for sure, It is frustrating that I can't record without the click being heard on the recording. If there is a way let me know. THanks
@@stanthorn1593 Good idea for recording, but this still doesn't solve all the problems, for example for a band playing live and a drummer needs a separate click track synced with playback.
@@GazRendar I absolutely love it. I bought the RC 20 used and actually like the sound quality but waaay too many basic features missing. Anyone ever feel like a 24bit tune slows or speeds up randomly when a card is near full? I finished a 16trk 24bit tune and it sounded fine, but then felt wonky, then sounded fine after I cleared some memory on the card.
Wow, actually slows down the song during playback? I haven't seen that one. But to be fair, I've mostly been going between a 64GB and 128GB card and haven't come close to filling either of them up. I have seen some general slow down when you start to get over 40 audio regions, but that's more waiting for things to save or load. I'll be on the look out for song speed change.
@@GazRendar I was using 128gb card but managed to fill it by rather dumb editing and not using the undo arrow correctly.
