I did a DNA test for health and nutrition requirements. Turned out that I need extra B6, B12 and folate. I now take high dose B vitamins and feel much better.
@@TaysonPlaysGuitar some b vitamin forms make people worse. Methylfolate can be too strong for some, so in their case Folinic Acid (not folic) is recommended. For b12, methylcobalamin can be too strong so adeno/hydroxy form is recommended to try. Always go low and slow.
Well done, Lauren, for collating this information. I started following you when my 27 year old son developed schizoaffective disorder. I have been pushing for him to take vitamin D as we live in Scotland, notorious for the lack of sun and low levels of vitamin D. The hospital was very reluctant for him to take any suppliments as they were worried about clashes with medication. He's now going to try to grow his own kefir and look at the other suppliments you explored. You are doing a great service to the community all over the world. I am very grateful for your courage and hard work. I hope you take lots of comfort and pride in the fact that you have turned your painful experiences into something worthwhile for other sufferers of mental health conditions. It's heroic really. I also live in Scotland, and lack of sun isn't much of a problem, as you can still get vitamin D from ultraviolet rays through the clouds, and even on rainy days. Obviously being out in the sun without clouds feels better though! I read an article years ago that wearing sunscreen or an spf above factor-15 can block vitamin D synthesis and increase the risk of vitamin D deficiency. Inositol (vitamin b8) in the form of myo-inositol has studies on schizophrenia, so its worth looking into. Biotiful kefir is one of the best supermarket brands, but its expensive. Beer wither its alcoholic or non-alcoholic (san miguel 0.0) is the best probiotic for gut health in my opinion. The girl in the video mentions melatonin, but its illegal in the uk without a prescription, but you can get natural melatonin from sour cherry. Holland & barrett do a sour cherry juice concentrate. So these things are worth looking into too.
I've been taking a range of supplements for many years, mainly multivitamins and omega 3. I can't honestly say they have improved my schizophrenia. But it's really important to look after your physical health. The prescription medicine has lots of side effects and I've suffered from weight gain. It's not a curable disease but being active e.g walking 30-60 minutes a day, eating healthier, working and having a social life can make it more manageable. I think the difficulty is that negativity often clouds your thoughts so it's hard to move forward!
Yes I think to have a good support person / preferably a family member is better - one to get you go for walks in the sunshine and one that shows they care about you and unconditionally loves you, accepting you for the extra special person that you are!!
For weight gain fasting helps too! Try a 12 hour fast on only fruit and plain unsweetened yoghurt! It also reduces inflammation so helps with arthritis! The best fruit to have is frozen raspberries or strawberries blueberries / mixed berries because they are full of fibre so they will fill you up! Fasting also causes your body to produce growth hormone ( which otherwise only is made as a child !! ) which increases your metabolic rate! I’ve spent the past year trying to beat my bipolar with psychotic features. I’m on a strict schedule and sleeping routine, I take tons of supplements and eat pretty healthy. I did keto for awhile hoping that would help. I am devastated at the idea I’ll need to take the medication forever, it makes my head shake. This had been working for awhile until the past two days I have had almost no sleep, even with sleeping pills. Usually I don’t realize this is a real disorder until times like this.. I had just been telling my psychiatrist how well this had been working and I felt like I had cracked the code. We’d been weaning me down off my medication so I can start trying for another baby. It’s kind of demoralizing when you work so hard at something and still have no control. I read this book by Kelly brogan and she claims that mental illness is due to poor health and things like diet and toxic things in the environment. She claims to work with severely mentally Ill people. I read it but have mixed feelings. It makes me angry sometimes that I can try so hard and people out there claim to drink celery juice and I’ll be better off. Ugh
Yes, to lose control despite all good efforts is so hard. And in the face of so many 'this is it!' theories. Looked up "Kelly Brogan". Wikipedia's first line: "Kelly Brogan is an American author of books on alternative medicine who has promoted conspiracy theories and misinformation about discredited medical hypotheses." Maybe that gives you some reassurance for your anger. I hope your sleep will find it's way back into your life somehow. Some people might cure their mental illnesses with diet but healthy eating never cured me of my illness. It does help me do better but it doesn't cure me

Ive been diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder. I take my haloperidol and my Abilify injection,but sometimes i can see and hear things. But its great to know it can be managed. And thank u for showing people and educating them about schizoaffective disorder

specifically for these conditions there are many scientific studies on B3 and B9 deficiency! and it has been proven that the supply of B3 and Folic acid reduces and disappears the symptoms. Strange, you missed them here Pleace understand - All vitamins from the B group are important, not just one or few - and they act Synergistically - this means that one helps the other to strengthen their action for work. I live with schizoaffectiveness, I found that a moderate dose of 'maca root' helps a lot with my depersonalization and derealization. I wish I had found it sooner...
I have schizoaffective disorder too.... I have these "times" where I feel like if I make the wrong move, or of something is out of place, that somehow it is going to lead to me dying some type of way. Is that derealization? After I started taking paliperidone, it completely stopped, but I never knew what I was actually experiencing.
In India, they have the term British medicine for Western medicaments. They use ashwagandha as traditional medicine for schizophrenia. It's much better than golden maca root, at least for me.
Lauren, thank you SO much for posting this video!! My husband has been Living with Schizoaffective Disorder since he was 24 years old, he’s 62 now. We’ve been married for 38 yrs. I’d done some reading recently about using vitamins as adjuvant therapy. We went to Trader Joe’s with basically the same list you just mentioned. I really needed validation that I’m doing the right thing for my honey and u gave me that. I’ve been a fan of yours for a while now and this video came at a very good time for me!!! I wish I’d known this 38 yrs ago but I’m thankful to have it now. Could u do more videos like this about new research, adjuvant therapies? Why haven’t my husband’s psychiatrists made these recommendations? He was in the hospital last yr for 14 days and those psychiatrists didn’t bring it up either. My husband has been on many antipsychotic meds through the years. They seem to work for about 10 yrs and then stop working. Now he’s on Clozapine and is maintaining his ANC and it’s controlling his symptoms very well. But I do worry about the med suppressing his ANC. Lauren, please keep taking your meds. I don’t want you to end up in the hospital again. My husband has always been compliant with his meds and he’s only been hospitalized once at diagnosis and again last year. My husband is not as insightful as you are about what it’s like to live with schizoaffective disorder and that’s primarily why I listen to your show. But he will say that he was dealt a life sentence . I don’t want to minimize his feelings so I agree with him but remind him that he has managed this disease very well and he is higher functioning than most people I know. I have a family member with this disorder and has had good improvement so far with biochemical testing at Mensah Medical in Illinois. They use specific testing and develop nutrient therapy to correct the underlying chemistry along with medication support. Highly recommend looking into this.

Abraham Hoffer a maverick psychiatrist from the 60s and died a few years ago recommended mega dose of niacin b3 3 grama or more and a low sugar diet. 90 % plus of his patients went back to work and showed signs of full recovery which was unheard of at the time. Much of the supplements you discuss work around an inactive sugar metabolism of which is resulting in mental health issues vs diabetes. So this is one of the reasons that it is also recommended to share a diabetic diet and decrease sugars in your diet.

You look wonderful, have a very balanced presence, and make informative/helpful videos on critical topics. Thank you so much. My son is on Seroquel, Gabapentin and they were keeping him from being in a crisis state of constant psychosis... It was when I started him on LION'S MANE AMYLOBAN that I saw more of his authentic presence creeping back. After a month I started seeing him laughing and smiling again, and we have playful exchanges now. He is much more responsive these days. Prior, he was stiff, grim, and still felt very threatened by many things.

@@Eserr7856 My son is now at an Independent Supported Living Residence where he has caregivers, nurse, Behavior professionals, etc... Ironically, he has more staff than just mom, but they cannot spend the generous amount of time I have to coax him to take meds, and in principle allow him to choose to take them, or not. And most often he chooses not to :(... He is not in psychosis and seems to be not inundated with many of his previous delusions. They have been replaced by a line of thought that is stopping him from using the toilet :(. But unfortunately, He is not taking his Amyloban . TY for asking and I wish you well

Vitamin D was a game changer for me. I don't have a schizo-spectrum disorder and have autism instead, but there was a point where my conditions where I was slowly deteriorating into hallucinations (or like at least psuedo-hallucinations/AEPs, I tend to maintain insight or regain insight quickly), hysteria, and potentially delusions. Vitamin D supplements helped me a lot for whatever reason. That and magneisum supplements keep most visual distortions away for me.
Profrontal has helped me. Deplin has helped too. Yes, MTHFR treatment is a must. For me, having a family physican who works well with my P.Doc and T.Doc is a huge plus that has helped my stability a great deal.
Abram Hoffer and Humphrey Osmond first used B vitamins back in the late 60s. It was found effective but there are side effects (like anything else taken in quantity I suppose). But the only drugs at the time were those in the Thorazine type category. I did take them briefly. And also met Osmond who was really a remarkable person with lots of compassion for ordinary people (I remember him asking me in depth about my psychotic experience with interest and caring. He would have been a terrific therapist. I think both may be better known for LSD (Osmond coined the term "antipsychotic") and Hoffer I believe discovered it (quite by accident). They wrote a book together "How to Live with Schizophrenia" long out of print but I believe available thru Amazon. Might be more worthwhile now as a historical text perhaps?
Great! Good info. I helped a family member who was exhibiting all of the symptoms of schizophrenia with the Omega 3 Fish Oils high in both DHA and EPA, plus high dose B Vitamins with extra Vitamin B3-Niacin. And St. John’s Wort as well. Worked like a charm! Many fish oils have almost no DHA and EPA so read the labels! I recommend finding natural forms of the B-Vitamins as most are synthetic forms. Synthetic B6 can actually cause problems. Folic acid isn’t nearly as good as Methylfolate. Vitamin B12 in the form of Methycobalamin is far better than the synthetic form, Cyanocobalamin. And lastly, Vitamin D3 should always be taken with Vitamin K2. Many D3 supplements already have K2 included which is good. Also look into GABA, 5-HTP, L-Tryptophan and Magnesium L-Threonate. L-Theanine and L-Serine also. Well worth looking into. Good Luck!

With anything your body shows symptoms which are vitamin and mineral deficiencies but people are trained to go to a dr and get everything suppressed and told to live with it for the rest of their life

Noticed limited improvement after introducing b complex and ginkgo biloba. This is after many years of no luck with various antipsychotics at differing doses. Will try the omega 3 fish oil and others mentioned

Missed out Betaine! Research from japan gave me the clue and my personal experience is amazing against positive symptoms. it is a beet root extract. A type of sugar that my body/genes are clearly not making, while it is needed to clear the protein gunk left overs in the brain.
I’ve read several times that B vitamins help a lot to reduce schizophrenia symptoms. Especially niacin. Some even say that the symptoms come about when we don’t have enough niacin. I found it helps me a lot. Gradually and carefully increasing it though because it causes a skin flash and it’s easier to increase it very slowly. Has anyone else heard of this?

Thank you for your highly informative and helpful videos. I have watched many of them. My son was diagnosed with schizophrenia many years s ago. He too was severely traumatized by his experiences over multiple hospitalizations. We have spent years researching and learning everything we could about the illness. I fully believe that supplements help. I would recommend Vitamin C in addition to those you discuss. Epsom salt baths are calming and provide the body with much needed magnesium. We discovered the presence of a seldom discussed MTHFR gene mutation that plays a part in mental health issues and would recommend those suffering from symptoms explore that possibility. Anyone with that gene mutation needs to take only Methyl forms of B vitamins and follow the protocols you speak about, such as healthy diet, enough rest and supplementation. You are truly an inspiration and offer hope to a group of people that often feel hopeless. From one mother to another…… Thank You! ❤

Niacin is succesfully used to this day to treat schizophrenia in alot of patients its very dose dependent some people need 3.5 grams a day others need 9 or up to 20 grams a day. The non flush or flush free variant called inositol hexanicotinate also works when dosed high
My understanding is that schizophrenia is brain damage! I have no clue how antipsychotics help the brain heal. My understanding of supplements and vitamins is that it gives your brain the materials to heal. The more the brain heals, the less symptoms you will have.

What was childhood like for you? When did you start having signs/symptoms & when were you diagnosed? I have an 11 yr old that has a very complicated case of symptoms from a few disorders..
Curious why B2 and B3 would not be mentioned here? If people have MAO-A or MTHFR mutations you need B2 to help correct these. Slow functioning MAO-A means slower break down and build up of certain neurotransmitters which likely lead to mental health issues. COMT is another big one, slow functioning COMT also means the slow break down of dopamine and needs magnesium. Slow COMT can also lead to excess estrogen which is not great, especially for men. B3 can also obviously help with the break down of excess neurotransmitters, although if you correct other pathways that are causing issues you probably do not need it.
Read Linus Pauling (nobel prize for double bond) “Orthomolecular Psychiatry” wrote book about using vitamins for mental illness. Mostly unaccepted and mocked but this is true of all pioneers-mthfr test is important also to know when you need a methylated folate-not folic acid (which won’t be able to be metabolized).
DHA helps me when I’m manic and have psychotic symptoms. I take daily though as it takes time to build up in your blood. Niacin in high doses is known to help.
I strangely found Nootropics helpful since one aspect of Schizophrenia is sort of having an I.Q Deficit, the more "Intelligent" you get, the better you will be able to use your Metacognitive Intelligence, in the "Thinking about Thinking" Sense, so it helps you recognise Delusions and Hallucinations, especially in a "Process of Elimination" kind of way, naturally this is just a Hypothesis and I wouldn't recommend this without discussing it with a Doctor, I hope someone finds this helpful
Don't forget exercise, people. A good strenuous workout with weights, or some nice low impact treadmill jogging for 20-30 mins at least 4 times a week has helped me immensely in the past with racing thoughts and an excess of nervous energy. Stay away from too much caffeine and be sure to have a well balanced diet. Brown rice, fresh veggies, baked/broiled/grilled fish and chicken are good choices that are gentle on the body and give you plenty of good nutrients that fast food can't. It can also become a good reason to have a friend or loved one over and make it a party. Best of wishes, everyone.

@fatimazehra2928 heyy Fatima ! Well I believe without me also being on antiosychotics as well I wouldn't be as stable as I am. I'm on abilify 200mg injection 3 weekly, it recently got reduced it equates to 10mg daily. It took 1 year to fully adjust to them but I do have side effects from abilify such as dystonia of my eyes (oculogyric crisis). So I take lorazepam for that and benzotropine as well. I've tried every antipsychotic medication there is but abilify is the one that has made me feel most me and not like a zombie or like im zoned out all the time. I have my creativity spark back and more quality of life now because of that. I'm so grateful it works. I prayer for your husband to find peace and health in his diagnosis. And I send love and good energy to you with supporting him through this. Without good support there it can be worse. I have my family and a treatment team that help me. I'm 24 years old. :) thank you
@fatimazehra2928 as for the mushrooms oils specifically they help my mood not the psychotic symptoms but just purely my mood feels very stable when I take them. Although I stopped buying mushroom oils months ago, I probably will use them again as an added health supplement. But what also has helped me is journalling every single day consistently. It centre's me and keeps track of my moods and stress levels.

@@TaysonPlaysGuitar some b vitamin forms make people worse. Methylfolate can be too strong for some, so in their case Folinic Acid (not folic) is recommended. For b12, methylcobalamin can be too strong so adeno/hydroxy form is recommended to try. Always go low and slow.
Well done, Lauren, for collating this information. I started following you when my 27 year old son developed schizoaffective disorder. I have been pushing for him to take vitamin D as we live in Scotland, notorious for the lack of sun and low levels of vitamin D. The hospital was very reluctant for him to take any suppliments as they were worried about clashes with medication. He's now going to try to grow his own kefir and look at the other suppliments you explored. You are doing a great service to the community all over the world. I am very grateful for your courage and hard work. I also live in Scotland, and lack of sun isn't much of a problem, as you can still get vitamin D from ultraviolet rays through the clouds, and even on rainy days. Obviously being out in the sun without clouds feels better though! I read an article years ago that wearing sunscreen or an spf above factor-15 can block vitamin D synthesis and increase the risk of vitamin D deficiency. Inositol (vitamin b8) in the form of myo-inositol has studies on schizophrenia, so its worth looking into. Biotiful kefir is one of the best supermarket brands, but its expensive. Beer wither its alcoholic or non-alcoholic (san miguel 0.0) is the best probiotic for gut health in my opinion. The girl in the video mentions melatonin, but its illegal in the uk without a prescription, but you can get natural melatonin from sour cherry. Holland & barrett do a sour cherry juice concentrate. So these things are worth looking into too.
I've been taking a range of supplements for many years, mainly multivitamins and omega 3. I can't honestly say they have improved my schizophrenia. But it's really important to look after your physical health. The prescription medicine has lots of side effects and I've suffered from weight gain. It's not a curable disease but being active e.g walking 30-60 minutes a day, eating healthier, working and having a social life can make it more manageable. I think the difficulty is that negativity often clouds your thoughts so it's hard to move forward!
Try taking nutritional yeast, it's full of B vitamins.
Yes I think to have a good support person / preferably a family member is better - one to get you go for walks in the sunshine and one that shows they care about you and unconditionally loves you, accepting you for the extra special person that you are!!
For weight gain fasting helps too! Try a 12 hour fast on only fruit and plain unsweetened yoghurt! It also reduces inflammation so helps with arthritis! The best fruit to have is frozen raspberries or strawberries blueberries / mixed berries because they are full of fibre so they will fill you up! Fasting also causes your body to produce growth hormone ( which otherwise only is made as a child !! ) which increases your metabolic rate! It also restores / reeboots mitochondria cell and your fat burning potential after fasting is better. I’ve spent the past year trying to beat my bipolar with psychotic features. I’m on a strict schedule and sleeping routine, I take tons of supplements and eat pretty healthy. I did keto for awhile hoping that would help. I am devastated at the idea I’ll need to take the medication forever, it makes my head shake.
This had been working for awhile until the past two days I have had almost no sleep, even with sleeping pills. Usually I don’t realize this is a real disorder until times like this.. I had just been telling my psychiatrist how well this had been working and I felt like I had cracked the code. We’d been weaning me down off my medication so I can start trying for another baby.
It’s kind of demoralizing when you work so hard at something and still have no control.
I read this book by Kelly brogan and she claims that mental illness is due to poor health and things like diet and toxic things in the environment. She claims to work with severely mentally Ill people. I read it but have mixed feelings. It makes me angry sometimes that I can try so hard and people out there claim to drink celery juice and I’ll be better off. Ugh
Yes, to lose control despite all good efforts is so hard. And in the face of so many 'this is it!' theories. Looked up "Kelly Brogan". Wikipedia's first line: "Kelly Brogan is an American author of books on alternative medicine who has promoted conspiracy theories and misinformation about discredited medical hypotheses." Maybe that gives you some reassurance for your anger. I hope your sleep will find it's way back into your life somehow. I have these "times" where I feel like if I make the wrong move, or of something is out of place, that somehow it is going to lead to me dying some type of way. Is that derealization? After I started taking paliperidone, it completely stopped, but I never knew what I was actually experiencing.

In India, they have the term British medicine for Western medicaments. They use ashwagandha as traditional medicine for schizophrenia. It's much better than golden maca root, at least for me.
Lauren, thank you SO much for posting this video!! My husband has been Living with Schizoaffective Disorder since he was 24 years old, he’s 62 now. We’ve been married for 38 yrs. I’d done some reading recently about using vitamins as adjuvant therapy. We went to Trader Joe’s with basically the same list you just mentioned. I really needed validation that I’m doing the right thing for my honey and u gave me that. I’ve been a fan of yours for a while now and this video came at a very good time for me!!! I wish I’d known this 38 yrs ago but I’m thankful to have it now. Could u do more videos like this about new research, adjuvant therapies? Why haven’t my husband’s psychiatrists made these recommendations? He was in the hospital last yr for 14 days and those psychiatrists didn’t bring it up either. My husband has been on many antipsychotic meds through the years. They seem to work for about 10 yrs and then stop working. Now he’s on Clozapine and is maintaining his ANC and it’s controlling his symptoms very well. But I do worry about the med suppressing his ANC. Lauren, please keep taking your meds. I don’t want you to end up in the hospital again. My husband has always been compliant with his meds and he’s only been hospitalized once at diagnosis and again last year. My husband is not as insightful as you are about what it’s like to live with schizoaffective disorder and that’s primarily why I listen to your show. But he will say that he was dealt a life sentence . I don’t want to minimize his feelings so I agree with him but remind him that he has managed this disease very well and he is higher functioning than most people I know. I have a family member with this disorder and has had good improvement so far with biochemical testing at Mensah Medical in Illinois. They use specific testing and develop nutrient therapy to correct the underlying chemistry along with medication support. Highly recommend looking into this.

Abraham Hoffer a maverick psychiatrist from the 60s and died a few years ago recommended mega dose of niacin b3 3 grama or more and a low sugar diet. 90 % plus of his patients went back to work and showed signs of full recovery which was unheard of at the time.

Much of the supplements you discuss work around an inactive sugar metabolism of which is resulting in mental health issues vs diabetes. So this is one of the reasons that it is also recommended to share a diabetic diet and decrease sugars in your diet.

My son is on Seroquel, Gabapentin and they were keeping him from being in a crisis state of constant psychosis... It was when I started him on LION'S MANE AMYLOBAN that I saw more of his authentic presence creeping back. After a month I started seeing him laughing and smiling again, and we have playful exchanges now. He is much more responsive these days. Prior, he was stiff, grim, and still felt very threatened by many things.

@@Eserr7856 My son is now at an Independent Supported Living Residence where he has caregivers, nurse, Behavior professionals, etc... Ironically, he has more staff than just mom, but they cannot spend the generous amount of time I have to coax him to take meds, and in principle allow him to choose to take them, or not. And most often he chooses not to :(... He is not in psychosis and seems to be not inundated with many of his previous delusions. They have been replaced by a line of thought that is stopping him from using the toilet :(.

Vitamin D was a game changer for me. I don't have a schizo-spectrum disorder and have autism instead, but there was a point where my conditions where I was slowly deteriorating into hallucinations (or like at least psuedo-hallucinations/AEPs, I tend to maintain insight or regain insight quickly), hysteria, and potentially delusions. Vitamin D supplements helped me a lot for whatever reason. That and magneisum supplements keep most visual distortions away for me.

Profrontal has helped me. Deplin has helped too. Yes, MTHFR treatment is a must. For me, having a family physican who works well with my P.Doc and T.Doc is a huge plus that has helped my stability a great deal.
You should do some research on CDP-Choline. Some tests have found massive improvements to memory, especially in schizophrenic people.

Abram Hoffer and Humphrey Osmond first used B vitamins back in the late 60s. It was found effective but there are side effects (like anything else taken in quantity I suppose). But the only drugs at the time were those in the Thorazine type category. I did take them briefly. And also met Osmond who was really a remarkable person with lots of compassion for ordinary people (I remember him asking me in depth about my psychotic experience with interest and caring. He would have been a terrific therapist. I think both may be better known for LSD (Osmond coined the term "antipsychotic") and Hoffer I believe discovered it (quite by accident). They wrote a book together "How to Live with Schizophrenia" long out of print but I believe available thru Amazon. Might be more worthwhile now as a historical text perhaps?
Great! Good info. I helped a family member who was exhibiting all of the symptoms of schizophrenia with the Omega 3 Fish Oils high in both DHA and EPA, plus high dose B Vitamins with extra Vitamin B3-Niacin. And St. John’s Wort as well. Worked like a charm!
Many fish oils have almost no DHA and EPA so read the labels! I recommend finding natural forms of the B-Vitamins as most are synthetic forms. Synthetic B6 can actually cause problems. Folic acid isn’t nearly as good as Methylfolate. Vitamin B12 in the form of Methycobalamin is far better than the synthetic form, Cyanocobalamin. And lastly, Vitamin D3 should always be taken with Vitamin K2. Many D3 supplements already have K2 included which is good.
Also look into GABA, 5-HTP, L-Tryptophan and Magnesium L-Threonate. L-Theanine and L-Serine also. Well worth looking into. Good Luck!

Complex carbohydrates like brown rice, winter squashes etc. are fine and needed. I take supplements with food. There are many youtube videos here on this topic. Dr. Abram Hoffer helped many people suffering with schizophrenia with using supplements. He’s written books on this subject.

Missed out Betaine! Research from japan gave me the clue and my personal experience is amazing against positive symptoms. it is a beet root extract. A type of sugar that my body/genes are clearly not making, while it is needed to clear the protein gunk left overs in the brain.
I’ve read several times that B vitamins help a lot to reduce schizophrenia symptoms. Especially niacin. Some even say that the symptoms come about when we don’t have enough niacin. I found it helps me a lot. Gradually and carefully increasing it though because it causes a skin flash and it’s easier to increase it very slowly. Has anyone else heard of this?

Thank you for your highly informative and helpful videos. I have watched many of them. My son was diagnosed with schizophrenia many years s ago. He too was severely traumatized by his experiences over multiple hospitalizations. We have spent years researching and learning everything we could about the illness. I fully believe that supplements help. I would recommend Vitamin C in addition to those you discuss. Epsom salt baths are calming and provide the body with much needed magnesium. We discovered the presence of a seldom discussed MTHFR gene mutation that plays a part in mental health issues and would recommend those suffering from symptoms explore that possibility. Anyone with that gene mutation needs to take only Methyl forms of B vitamins and follow the protocols you speak about, such as healthy diet, enough rest and supplementation. Niacin is succesfully used to this day to treat schizophrenia in alot of patients its very dose dependent some people need 3.5 grams a day others need 9 or up to 20 grams a day. The non flush or flush free variant called inositol hexanicotinate also works when dosed high
My understanding is that schizophrenia is brain damage! I have no clue how antipsychotics help the brain heal. My understanding of supplements and vitamins is that it gives your brain the materials to heal. The more the brain heals, the less symptoms you will have.
I think schizophrenia can be caused by multiple things.

@@debrajanzen6661 I definitely agree about the neuroplasticity. But they do know for certain that psychotic events do in fact cause brain damage, same with Manic and depressive episodes. Even a stroke is considered a psychotic event.

Curious why B2 and B3 would not be mentioned here? If people have MAO-A or MTHFR mutations you need B2 to help correct these. Slow functioning MAO-A means slower break down and build up of certain neurotransmitters which likely lead to mental health issues. COMT is another big one, slow functioning COMT also means the slow break down of dopamine and needs magnesium. Slow COMT can also lead to excess estrogen which is not great, especially for men. B3 can also obviously help with the break down of excess neurotransmitters, although if you correct other pathways that are causing issues you probably do not need it.

Mostly unaccepted and mocked but this is true of all pioneers-mthfr test is important also to know when you need a methylated folate-not folic acid (which won’t be able to be metabolized).

DHA helps me when I’m manic and have psychotic symptoms. I take daily though as it takes time to build up in your blood.

I strangely found Nootropics helpful since one aspect of Schizophrenia is sort of having an I.Q Deficit, the more "Intelligent" you get, the better you will be able to use your Metacognitive Intelligence, in the "Thinking about Thinking" Sense, so it helps you recognise Delusions and Hallucinations, especially in a "Process of Elimination" kind of way, naturally this is just a Hypothesis and I wouldn't recommend this without discussing it with a Doctor, I hope someone finds this helpful

Don't forget exercise, people. A good strenuous workout with weights, or some nice low impact treadmill jogging for 20-30 mins at least 4 times a week has helped me immensely in the past with racing thoughts and an excess of nervous energy. Stay away from too much caffeine and be sure to have a well balanced diet. Brown rice, fresh veggies, baked/broiled/grilled fish and chicken are good choices that are gentle on the body and give you plenty of good nutrients that fast food can't. It can also become a good reason to have a friend or loved one over and make it a party. Best of wishes, everyone.

ive been diagnosed with schizoaffective, and i take mushroom oils like turkey tail, lions mane and reishi i find that they really help imrove my overall mood and the way i feel physically. :)
What doses do you take ? Are you taking it under someone’s surpervision ? My husband has been diagnosed schizoaffective since 1 year plus ..he is on anti psychotics but he has all the negative symptoms of it ..loss of emotions , no insight, no motivation , inactive all the time .. can u please elaborate and tell me me about your experience and are u still on anti psychotic?
@fatimazehra2928 heyy Fatima ! Well I believe without me also being on antiosychotics as well I wouldn't be as stable as I am. I'm on abilify 200mg injection 3 weekly, it recently got reduced it equates to 10mg daily. It took 1 year to fully adjust to them but I do have side effects from abilify such as dystonia of my eyes (oculogyric crisis). So I take lorazepam for that and benzotropine as well. I've tried every antipsychotic medication there is but abilify is the one that has made me feel most me and not like a zombie or like im zoned out all the time. I have my creativity spark back and more quality of life now because of that. I'm so grateful it works. I prayer for your husband to find peace and health in his diagnosis. And I send love and good energy to you with supporting him through this. Without good support there it can be worse. I have my family and a treatment team that help me. I'm 24 years old. :) thank you
@fatimazehra2928 as for the mushrooms oils specifically they help my mood not the psychotic symptoms but just purely my mood feels very stable when I take them. Although I stopped buying mushroom oils months ago, I probably will use them again as an added health supplement. But what also has helped me is journalling every single day consistently. It centre's me and keeps track of my moods and stress levels.
