Hey, Brian,- i watched many of your davinci Videos and i am sorry that you stopped working with this 3d Printer lately. First of all, i want to thank you, - as the davinci is higly undersupported also from davinci, but even more from the 3d printing communties. YOU SAVED MY DAY!
Thank you for your compliment. The Da Vinci Pro printer is a very nice printer with which you can make beautiful prints with some perseverance. The fact that this printer has a sealed housing makes it great for printing with ABS, which means that this printer is still high on my list of perfect printers because there are still few affordable printers that can print well in ABS. Unfortunately, XYZPrinting is a terrible company that threatens everything and everyone in the 3D printing community with lawsuits if you make a critical note about their products. I have received many threats from them and it was finally so tired that I did not want to continue with this brand. Unfortunately I am not alone in this. Other youtubers have also been affected by this, which is why in the community, everyone avoided this brand as much as possible. But, don't worry as a user, you have a perfect printer with which you can create beautiful objects. Enjoy your machine and make everything yourself. Good luck.
Thanks Brian. Waiting for my printer to heat up and print my second print. Used your settings, hope it works better then the first print I did. 10K views and only 151 likes...
Really appreciate your video series. Love this one. I have used the settings with the exeption of layer height from 3 to 2. My prints are crumbling apart in my hands and/or breaking while removing from the bed.
Hi Kevin, There can be a few things going wrong then. - Your printing temperature is to low, and therefore the plastics won't melt into each other. - Your ABS is wet, meaning it has sucked up some moisture. If this is the case, you can here it "pop" while it's being extruded. My guess is the temperature, try adding 10 degrees Celcius on the nozzle. Else, look up how to bake your ABS in the oven and do so to get it dry again.
I used the temp shown in the video here. Am I to assume some brands of filament require different settings This 3d printing thing is quite complex then.
Well, don't want to scare you off, but even different colors of filament require different settings, even if they are from the same type and brand. My first print with every new spool of filament is a test print so that I can see the best printing temperatures.
thanks a lot for all this information well i have the same printer but am new to this world of printing and every time am trying to print the filament dose not stick to the bed and it goes up to cover the extruder and i tried everything like calibration and Z offset with business card and still did not get it to work hope you can help me with it
+Alaa Al Shahed Hi. Most of the time when prints come of the print bed, this is because the bed is for some reason not sticky enough. If you have Kapton tape on the bed, you have to experiment with the right kind of glue stick to get the print stick to the bed. In my country they sell UHU and Pelikan and I believe these are the best I can get here. From people in America I have heard good things about Elmers Purple glue, but I can not buy this here. Also, I recently switched from Kapton tape to BuildTak. This is the best upgrade I have ever done to my printer. For only about 12 Euro for a sheet of BuildTak, I never ever have to use glue again. The ABS sticks to the BuildTak perfect without any additives. You only have to clean the bed once in a while with rubbing alcohol, but that's just it. Hope this helps you.
3d Print Creator I am having the same problem as mentioned above, but this printer had a BuildTak already on it. However, when I started one of the build samples, it started tearing up the BuildTak! And suggestions? At the moment I have no replacement BuildTak sheets, (and I think the torn up part of the current one will effect the build) So what would you suggest? (I am using ABS) Is Blue painter's tape and Purple Elmers glue a good option? if so, what Z offest would you use? (I've fought with the Z Offset and it isn't working..) Thanks for any feedback!
If you have damaged your BuildTak, then there must be something wrong with the height of your nozzle. So before you do anything, check your Z axis offset because you can really damage things here. Then, blue painters tape is great for things that don't build up forces in the material itself. Materials like ABS don't work well on painters tape and benefit from materials like Kapton (with Glue stick) or real printing surfaces like BuildTak, PEI or Zebra Plate.
Unfortunately, I have not. I never made a video about a specific filament and their settings because everyone watching this channel is using different types of filament. I keep things generic and tell about characteristics of a material, not a brand.
I tried these settings using xyz brand black ABS and they seem to work very well for medium and large size parts but not so well for small parts with a higher degree of detail. I think the speeds may be a bit too slow or possibly my temperatures are too high at 215c for smaller parts, I'm getting a lot of blobs on the surface. Love my 1.0 pro and really enjoy your videos, keep it up!
Hi Nick Stratton, If you are printing very detailed parts, don't drop your temperature, but change speed settings until you find the right setting. Also, play with your extrusion settings if you have blobs. I have found better results with my extrusion at 92% when I am printing very detailed parts. Also, make sure you have your printer closed as good as possible. Their must be no air flow through the printer while printing. Wish you many nice prints.
Hi Paul, I can use ABP, PLA, PETG, NGEN and a few others with the standard nozzle but with Simplify3D software. Then I made a few changes to my machine and now I can also print with some low temperature PC, Nylon and abrrasve filaments like glow in the dark PLA, Carbon reinforced materials, etc.
The shop where I ordered my printer was in the Netherlands but the owner stopped his shop for some reason. At this moment I buy my filaments at 123-3d.nl where they have reasonable prices for good filaments and I buy filaments online at Ebay. For printer parts I shop at AlliExpress, Banggood and a shop around the corner here in my city. I now build my own 3D printers and they work great.
Hi, I don't think I ever printed on original XYZPrinting PLA. The main reason for me to buy the Da Vinci Pro was because of the possibility to buy after market filament so I only used some of their ABS cartridges and that's it. But in general, PLA prints at 190 to 210 Celsius and I use a heated bed on 50 Celsius, but that is because I am using BuildTak.
A While back you made a video using 3rd party filament with da Vinci 1.0 3 in 1 now I can’t find it how can I do it is it easy? How can I find the link?
Search only at thingiverse for the Da Vinci Spool holder I made. That will help you a lot as there I also tell how to use the printer with other filaments.
I just got our 3d pro the wifey ordered me. It came with some squares of tape. I did the demo print of a heart and its a big ol' blob. Is that cuz this tape sucks ? Do I still need to run glue over it ? Thanks. For a newbie I enjoy your videos.
Hi, Thanks for your comment. The problem is, it can be various things that make the print not come out that good. In fact, If the first layer of your print sticked to the bed and the print didn't warp from the print bed, then this tape did what it had to do. If you experienced warping or if your print came loose completely then the tape was no good. The print speed could also be a problem, but if you printed the test object, you have no control over that, so that can't be the problem then. Then, the last thing you can check is the bed level. If your bed is not leveled good, then you can experience some problems as well. I doubt if a blob is among the things that can go wrong, but it is possible.
My first print with the Pro 1.0 was a blob. The print came loose from the tape. I checked speeds and that the bed was level and the z offset was calibrated. Then I watch 3d Print Creator's video about using the tape and glue stick for abs. I applies glue stick to the tape and my next test print stayed stuck, but it was really stuck. I tore up the tape trying to get it loose using the scraper XYZPrinting supplied. New tape with glue applied, my next print was just as stuck, but this time I carefully used a single edge razor blade and was able to pop it loose without tearing up the tape. Thanks for all the video's you do. I know I'm going to be spending more time watching the others.
I try to understand what you mean with this? You can set the height of the bed with the screws under the bed and in the menu of the printer you can set the 0 point for the printer.

Hi Allan, My machine is no longer original, so my settings won't help you as I have another motherboard, another hot-end and all that kind of things, but I can tell you where to start. Go play with the retraction settings. At least 6mm of retraction and 50mm/sec retraction time is needed, but it can be even more (like 7mm versus 100mm/sec) Don't push it to far, just experiment with it. Also lowering the temperature can help you as a dripping nozzle gets worst at higher temperatures. Good luck fighting the stringing.

would these settings work on da vinci pro using cura ?
Settings are just settings. They tell the printer how to handle the filament inside, so Yeah...
Da Vinci 1.0 sucks
That's an easy comment :-(
Then also say why you think that and what your expertise level is, because I think I show good results out of the machine.
Its the best printer in its price range for a heated bed with an enclosure. If you know how to push the limits of the printer you can get reasonable results out of it for 1/5th the price of other printers.
