Should pro mountain bikers get paid more? This long debate has finally come to a head as the men's Slopestyle riders boycotted the event at Crankworx this past weekend with a list of demands that included everything from rider safety to mandatory appearance fees to travel expenses. This has brought up the conversation of pro mountain bikers pay again and we take a look at everything that goes into the compensation of these pro athletes. Is it the responsibility of the event organizers or the sponsors and teams?

Your points were all valid and nicely communicated. Great to hear a common sense take on the situation. It was a great shame for the ticket paying fans that missed out as well. There would have been fans that scratched their money together to get to the event only to be left disappointed. And they probably won't be back next time...
That is a great point too.
Sound sense 👍
Great video dude. Thanks for covering it.
Events you mention where sponsors pay for everything is bc the invites are given to SPONSORS. Not individual riders.
That is actually not true. Having been a part of other sports the invites are given to the pro athletes. The sponsors and teams then support them.
One only has to look at someone like Wyn Masters.......he's not winning races, and isn't a threat for any WC DH podium, but his microphone and interview skills are superlative - people seek out his content and that makes him attractive to sponsors, like GT, Alpine Stars, Continental, Pitviper, etc.....he's following in the path of the originator of content-marketing, Hans Rey (another GT alumni) - perhaps I'm seeing a pattern here? The slopestyle guys are stressed because of the market contraction pains, and I'm thinking this was a last-ditch desperation move, that ultimately had little effect, as the women competitors still competed (and took the limelight), thus short circuiting all the men's points of contention.....Perhaps they need to re-evaluate their career expectations instead, as bike racing careers are harder to pull off than being a musician these days......
There risk alot look bk the other day that could be far worse so yes I think there should there love there sport and ride for them self's as well as the fans so bigger pay would better the sport
Every pro athlete has risks. Look at football players as an example.
@@Bike198 anytime you're moving, there's a risk of injury!
Why did they guarantee so much for the ladies then? The money is there, they just chose to direct it somewhere else for an agenda
Because they wanted to have the first Slopestyle even for the women. Not a bad intention and I do love the fact they had one...but they bent the rules that they haven't given the guys to get it. I think that is what ultimately started this.
@@Bike198 so they gave women special tranet at the expense of men. It used to the the whole prize pot was for the men. Not they split it with women and dedicated a large amount to 5 riders
Yes. They did.
