Shared success and defeat, interlaced creativity, friendship, exploration, laughter... minecraft means all of these things for me. It's one of the few games where no two people play it really the same way. The lack of instructions and in-game tutorials I think helped it play out this way. I remember what Tobuscus said, "I guess I have to google how to play this game." But yeah the music is in my soul, now a part of who I am. And no other music that I listen to sounds quite like it. A unique and intriguing soundtrack to a unique and intriguing game, one impossible to exist without the other.
Hey Dan it's awesome to see you in front of a camera! And I totally understand your feelings on this. When I first started playing the game Path of Exile and got to the part where you find yourself at the top of the Overseer's Tower, the music perfectly captures the emotion of the story up to that point. Then later on when you're fighting in the Templar Courts, the music becomes really epic. None of these songs, "Overseer's Tower" and "Templar Courts" would be as good by themselves, but combined with a great game and a great story, it displays the Harmonia as you described. The nostalgia is a big part of it. The game's setting and emotion that it evokes is a reminder of the fantasy movies of the 80's that I adored, which is the reason I began playing fantasy rpg's. A composer's ability to instill nostalgia in us while simultaneously adopting the mood of the game is truly genius.
Yeah that sounds like an excellent indicator of the harmonia in path of exile. The music is not only in the game, but the game is also in the music. It’s a real show of skill on all ends of the people on a team project to create something where all parts synergize with each other.
That’s an interesting take on why we find the music so appealing! Most people say it’s either nostalgia or the calming music on its own, but it makes sense that neither operates in isolation. I’d be curious to see more videos from you where you combine philosophy with video games, trying to understand what makes certain mechanics and cutscenes so emotionally powerful/impactful
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it I think I will make more video essays similar to this one, on both game and non-game related topics. If there's any topics or concepts in particular you'd like my analysis on, feel free to drop some.
also i was DEADDD with the end and the nether videos at the beginning
