To answer a question I've seen a few times before, the creature Mim transforms into in the book is called an "aullay,." I'm not even sure if I pronounced it correctly, to be honest. My apologies for any confusion.
Weirdly enough, the creature in the story is inspired by a similar mythological creature from Hindu religion, a Yali. Also an elephant like creature with horse-like features.
Agreed with every word. However I’ve got to admit as a child watching the movie, I always had a sneaking suspicion that Mim was actually the transformed embodiment of the wolf, pike , and hawk that eventually drove poor wort to to her house and therefore trap! You know given how powerful and sneaky she is, and although she maybe mad one should Never underestimate her
I love how Madam Mim is pretty much Disney's own equivalent of Looney Tunes' Witch Hazel (not counting Disney's Witch Hazel from the Donald Duck Halloween short "Trick or Treat").
Madam Mim is one of my favourite underrated Disney villains, I liked her when I was young because she was hilarious and its a pity that the Sword in the Stone world hasn't appeared in a Kingdom Hearts game yet, Madam Mim would be a cool boss fight.
I think the reason "Sword in the Stone" hasn't appeared yet is that it's implied that Merlin's adventures are already long in the past--even factoring in weird world timeline rules, Sora likely would not be meeting Wart. Pity though--it'd be fun to turn into a bunch of different critters.
Mim would be best utilized as a sort of mad magic teacher of FF villains, sort of chaotic mentor that pops up in original world, mirroring Merlin in Traverse Town. Sadly, KH hasn't been the crossover it used to be for a longest time.

As a child, I encountered Mim in the comics first, and was honestly really surprised when I saw the movie portray her as a straight-up villain. On top of her fun personality and story potential, she always stood out to me as the only recurring female character (aside from grandma duck) who wasn’t either a villain or someone’s girlfriend.
Fun Fact: Ironically, The Sword in the Stone was released the same year as the all-star comedy It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World - in fact only one month apart from each other. In her song, Mim identifies as "Mad" the exact same number of times as is in the film's title ("The Magnificent, MARVELOUS, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Madam Mim!")
LOVED IAMW... that movie actually has quite a few Disney alums or future alums in it including Sterling Holloway (Pooh, Cheshire Cat, Kaa) as the firefighter, Andy Devine (Friar Tuck) as a police dispatcher, Buddy Hacket (Scuttle) as Benji and Mickey Rooney (Todd in Fox and the Hound) it's so funny because in most of these cases they would be in Disney films later but that's honestly all I knew them from when I first watched. Obviously they were really famous before doing it but that's my vantage point anyway LOL
@@abrahamaytemo Yes! Maybe it's corny but any time I get the chance to give a shoutout to Nick Stewart, I'm going to, because by proxy he helped to launch so many careers in the black community through his Ebony Showcase Theater (which has since been raised to the ground) and his career has mostly been unsung. i read a lot of the european donald duck comics (y'know, being european and all) and it always catches me off guard when madam mim is featured in them, though in a good way. her and magica de spell are a cool combo.
I always imagined her appearance in modern Duckburg means she's either a time- traveler or it's an alternate reality. Given the personality change, I'd say it's the latter.
@@stormstrider1990 Personally I always imagined that she is so powerful that is immortal. This is also how I explained her personality sift. She was genuinely evil back then but as years went by she mellowed out and found her own moral code. I don't know what triggered it, maybe it was nothing specific just little things as the world changed and she had new experiences.
Madam Mim sure is an entertaining character. Interesting note: When she turned into a beautiful woman, she used her apperance, singing and dancing to charm Wart. After that, she turned back into her original form in a not so subtle way. Then you can see that Wart is not comfortable with her. She charmed Wart only to take that away. Which is kinda mean... or should I say mad :D
Wart goes "Well when Merlin changes into something, he changes into something useful!" Adult Wart would have found hot Mim to be VERY useful. I'm just sayin haha
I do know that her beauty form was one of my gay awakenings and then i forgot the whole movie except the pretty lady and when i watched it again and saw she wasnt pretty i did feel cheated lol
Mim had only but a cameo role in "The Sword in the Stone" - but she made the most of it. And let's give credit to where credit is due - "The Sword in the Stone" was the first Disney animated movie the Sherman Brothers worked on. They would go on to write songs for "Mary Poppins" and "The Jungle Book".
She's easily in my top 5 Disney villain list, partially because she does stand out compared to the elegantly evil ladies who came before her. And I have to admit that I've always been a little inspired by her self-confidence lol
So this video inspired me to look at some random brazilian Madam Min comics i could find on google at the very least (i'm brazilian), and by what i could find, she seems to mostly fit with what was described here, being flirty and liking weird things. The biggest differences seem to be that she is more cartoonishy evil, is always with Magica De Spell, or Maga Patalójika as she is known here, and interacts more with some characters that are only popular in brazil. One of the covers in the video is for a very interesting book about made-up spells and some more "real" stuff like astrology or the horoscope, presented by her and Magica, from a series of manuals about some disney characters, usually related to something the character is known for.
Brilliant episode I didn’t expect Reynard the fox, seems like he was bit complex in terms of portraying as a hero/Villain, The Beast gave Walt/90s Disney the same issue as well. Definitely lookin forward to Jungle Villains, Shere Khan’s my fav
Fun fact: In the original Addams Family TV show, Morticia’s mother is played by Margaret Hamilton - the actress who was the iconic Wicked Witch of the West from the famous 1939 MGM Wizard of Oz movie starring Judy Garland.
Can we take a step back and marvel at how well Mim's directing animator Milt Kahl animated her hands? Milt Kahl was really good at not only drawing hands, but animating them too. Look at just about every character he animated and look at their hands. Look at how Mim is very expressive with them. That's not an easy thing even for talented artists.
Being brazilian, Min and Maga Patalójika (Magica de Spell) are almost always together, like best friends or at least partners in magic. One of my favorite comics is one where them both end up in Brazil by accident, and now Jose Carioca and his friend try to get some easy money guiding the tourists. She is dearly remembered, both by her character and her dub here, I recommend checking it out. A thing about her love phantom, she's obsessed with him, but he doesn't love her back, often using her and her magic to escape prison or commit crimes.
I never heard of the Disney Reynard/Chanticleer movie that never was before. That's really interesting! And getting information on more movies and villains when I was expecting only Madam Mim was also a nice surprise! And I played the heck out of World of Illusion on the Genesis back in the day. That game was super charming.
6:25 fact that most disney villains care for beauty, she accepts who she is, happy crazy witch that loves magic and bad things, thats why she is probably my fav disney villain(or maybe cus her beauty form is 🔥)
It was obvious from the description that this unmade Chanticleer film eventually became Rock-A-Doodle, but the parts about the rooster being mayor and the fox wanting to raid the henhouse remind me of Disney's first adaptation of Chicken Little from the 40s (where the fox won).
I noticed concept art Madam Mim and she reminds me of Cruella who like her in the book was shown as very beautiful but when they were adapted to screen they are depicted as very ugly and goofier. In some ways it makes them stand out in contrast if hey were conveniently beautiful. And said before if Mim was more like Maleficent she would be seen as more like a clone than her own person. Yeah, Reynard the fox has been the character that could be one of the ultimate what could have been villains. It does make me wonder if anyone would love to take on that Chanticleer/Reynard project ever again or due to Rockadoodle being a cult classic guilty pleasure not try to tempt it. I have heard about the Chanticleer/Reynard movie but I never heard about the concept with Reynard being framed for bad crimes. That one actually reminds me of a CGI Reynard movie called "Renny The Fox" in the USA where Reynard is depicted as someone who is a lovable rogue instead of the dick he was in the original tales. In my opinion, if Disney wants to do a Reynard project make him a villain. Although I have a feeling Nick Wilde wouldn't like him since he gives his species a bad name.
This is the first of your Disney Retrospectives I've managed to watch when it's new! I really enjoy listening to you go over the history and legacy of these characters! It's always an interesting subject! The Jungle Book/Tail Spin is next! That should be a great subject of discussion!
B the way, Colin, did you know there are other rejected animals that were originally planned for the Wizard's Duel Scene? They were amazing as they were mind-blowing. But the most surprising animal form I found on Merlin was his dog form. He looked a lot like Tramp, but older and with bigger eyes. Mim's heron form (misnamed as a pelican) was my top favorite of her rejected forms.
Another great episode. I like the idea of the bonus villains in episodes fir villains with less info on them. Inwas wondering how youd do edgar from the aristocats. Cant wait for the jungle book villains entry
would've liked to see that reynald/chanticleer film(though do love rock a doodle.) though can understand why it got canned. always did love merlin & madam mim(wish we'd see her in kingdom hearts alongside arthur as seeing sora help his friend merlin in the wizards duel fighting mim's animal forms especially the dragon/the series shown in sorcerer's arena & disney heroes battle mode would be awesome.:3) and remember reading alongside papernik the comics with her teaming up with magica de spell(those 2 really work well together and should've had mim in the ducktales reboot using her original design.).
I still hold out hope that one day Disney will make a film based on old Reynard the Fox. He's such an interesting character, and it would be intriguing to see the Disney formula applied to a character who is very much an anti-hero. Although their Reynard-inspired version of Robin Hood is iconic in its own right!
The Sword in the Stone and Robin Hood were my and my sister’s favorite movies growing up. “I’M AN UGLY OLD CREEP” and “I HATE SHUNSHINE! HORRIBLE, WHOLESOME SUNSHINE!” Are still in regular use between us 😂
Fantastic job on this chapter! Quite interesting indeed! Sword in the stone was one of my favorite Disney movies growing up! Looking forward to the Jungle book entry!
OMG I used to love Madam Mim comics! My family is from Brazil and my grandma traveled there often. She use to bring me a lot of comic books and I remember reading so many with Madam Mim. And that was before I watched The Sword in the Stone 😂 Im a simple woman: put a witch in my fiction and I'm happy.
A couple years ago I finally got around to reading The Once and Future King by T.H. White which as The Sword in the Stone as the first book in the 4 part series, and it wasn't until after I read the book that the Disney movie made a lot more sense as to why it feels so disjointed and episodic and only at the end does the Sword in the Stone show up because that's how the book is. And to honest, the Disney version gets a couple of points over the book if only because Movie Wart wasn't as obnoxious and bratty as Book Wart could get. The Sword in the Stone isn't the best Disney movie, but it does have a charm to it because it's so laid back and mellow, and yet there is a part of me that wouldn't mind seeing Disney do a remake of this movie because there is a lot of potential to improve and fix the story and explain why does this nobody Wart become King Arthur unlike all the other remakes we've had so far that add nothing or take away from what made the original work.
In the novel Wart turns out to be the son of Uther Pendragon, the previous king, so this is why he could pull the sword from the stone when nobody else could, because he was the rightful heir by blood. In the movie Arthur's parentage is never really addressed, so it feels more like he was worthy of being king because he was humble and good. For instance, when he pulled the sword from the stone he didn't even know the legend attached to it. He just wanted to get the sword for Kay, and not for his own glory like everyone else was.
Madam Mim is my mother favourite character, she used to have a big collection of her comics she donated everything to the public library before I was born, but as a person that bought Disney comics for some time and still have them nowadays she is rare to appear but quite a treat when she does
This was so ironic because even tho madam mim hasnt been seen at disney park almost ever, theres actually a costumed character right now at the disney oogie boogie bash
i used to read a lot of Disney comics as a kid and after a while seeing Madam in Duckburg-centered comics, i almost started associating her more to Donald than to Sword in the Stone wish i had known how to contact you, since i could have given a hand with translating the Brazilian comics that feature her
Fitting that Sword in the Stone episode features time-travel to 2018’s Mary Poppins movie. I am delighted you enjoyed Mim in the comics, I grew up reading them and I assumed you might not like that she isn’t that villainous.
Mim definitely deserves more love. she is such a delightfully chaotic character. In the "Return to the Isle of the lost" decedents novel Mim and her daughter play a large part in the plot. Also concept art and the script from the scrapped Chanticleer and Raynard movie were reworked and released as a children's book titled "Chanticleer and the fox: A Chaucerian tale". I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in Disney history particularly their forgotten and scrapped projects.
Oh, I am loving your useage of 'Villianous' artwork. Got the expansion with Mim a few days ago. Also, there is one interesting thing about Merlin in the film. During an argument with Wart when fate has given the boy a chance to be Kay's squire, he says something to Merlin. I can't remember what exactly, but I believe it was something like 'You know all this stuff about the future, but you don't understand a thing about the present.' While Merlin has the excuse of propehtic visions and time travel, he is still so dead set on those visions that anything that could mess with them are seen as an annoyance. It's something that's kinda funny when you remember one of his lessons through song was to not wait for fate to give you greatness, yet that's more or less what he makes Wart do. As a final point, Wart and Hazel writings (the fan name for the squirrel) is home to some of the most wholesome pieces I've seen.
13:49-14:01 Say, do you think that tidbit of Reynard the Fox was one of the inspiration sources for the original plot of Zootopia, when Nick Wilde was accused (and likely framed) of a crime he didn't commit? 🐘🐎 Also, how do you spell "Ollay"? "Olley?" "Allay?" "Allé?" "Ollé?" The creature Madam Mim was originally intended to turn into instead of a dragon. I tried searching it on Google, but I don’t know how to spell it right. Did the said creature exist in mythology or was it invented for the original book of the Sword in the Stone?
I'm not sure about the Zootopia plot, but the animal Mim transformed into was spelled "aullay." I have no idea if it existed outside the story, and I could not find that information when I made the video.
Fun Fact: Madam Mim was apparently so memorable that the German title of The Sword in the Stone straight up is "The Witch and the Wizard", despite her appearing for only so little of the movie's runtime. I also remember the TV ads always focusing on the iconic duel and little on Arthur himself. It seems that over here Merlin resonated more with the viewers as well, given the title.
Sword and the Stone was one of my favorites movies to watch as a kid, particularly when I was over at my dad's house cause he owned the VHS for it. I actually bought the DVD last year and Madam Mim is such a fun character that, as stated here in the vid, she really steals the show when it's her time to appear. Mad Madam Mim is quite fun and I do wish we got to see more of her...I remember that in House of Mouse when the Villains took over she was in the conga line with a bunch of the other villains even though she didn't have a speaking part.
What I do love about Mim is that she is so different to the other Disney villainesses. She’s a purely chaotic force that loves anything festering and putrid. I really wish they went with her being the main villain of the story rather than a side plot because I think her purposely interfering with Merlin’s training Arthur to be the new king would’ve been very interesting. Heck, maybe have her be the one who poisoned the previous king cause she wanted to see England be plunged into a new dark age? Make her more of a threat to the narrative whilst still keeping her goofy, manic personality.
For the next Disney Villains Retrospective, I think it would be interesting to talk about the villains in the order they appear in the Jungle Book : Kaa, then King Louie, then Shere Khan. The reason I say this is because of the unique way Shere Khan is presented in this movie: you hear about him from the beginning of the film with the wolves but you don't actually meet him until way later. And this whole time, all the jungle animals express fear when mentioning his name, which adds to his build-up and makes his entry all the more impactful. It's a specific aspect of Shere Khan and it would be cool if you did that as well for his video. Of course, only you get to decide how to write your retrospectives and I only mention this because of how well made they are. Anyway, keep up the good work!
Mim absolutely terrified me as a kid. Like, so much I iirc only watched the movie one time until I finally saw it again in my 20s. No other disney villain came close, and I had the Black Cauldron on VHS lol.
I admit that this was quick, but then again her history is pretty short. But there is said to be a live action version coming soon for The Sword in the Stone. Who wants to bet that either Melissa McCarthy, Kathy Bates, or Aidy Bryant to play her? Plus I can't wait for the next one, since we'll be going now into Rudyard Kipling territory now, and another case of a villain who wasn't one in the original book. (Hint-hint)
I doubt they'd go with McCarthy, since she's already tapped to play Ursula in their planned 'Little Mermaid' remake. Bates, however, would indeed be a marvelous, magnificent Mad Madam Mim!
@@TylerRakstis speaking of remakes I pick Willem Dafoe as the Horned king with Andy Serkis and Christian Bale as backup Alfred Molina as Governor Radcliffe and Jamie Foxx as Sykes or one of his dogs from Oliver and Company if you have seen the movie Baby Driver
You should for the next part, also talking about king Louie because sometimes people forgot that he's actually evil. Also you should also talking about the stage musical although it never made it to Broadway. The full show is somewhere on UA-cam.
I will definitely give Louie his due. And thanks for the tip--I snagged the show off YT a week or two ago. You never know how long those kinds of vids will stay up.
Don't know if she'll ever come up again but, just a quick correction for future reference... the official pronunciation of Magica De Spell is actually the same as the word Magic with an "a" at the end (i.e. Magic-ah) rather than Mag-ee-ka. Basically, they leaned into the pun a bit more (I'm sure other countries use other pronunciations but, that is the original American pronunciation).
Beautiful, black haired witch with a crow/raven sounds like Magica de spell so that's really interesting original book discription sounds like her with them being popular in comics :D
Man, Madam Mim is definitely one of my favorite Disney villains early on. She may not be the big bad villainess Malificent is, but her wacky energetic personality is definitely a fun contrast! 😁👍🏾 I’m happy that Madam Mim was such a popular recurring antagonist in multiple Disney medium! I’d love to check out those European comic appearances! 😄
I've hadn't seen this film before but I did see quest for camelot and that was one of my favorite non disney movies during my childhood so I think I'll try to watch it at some point in time.
I think Mim is maybe the most underrated Disney villain. Something I've never seen anyone discuss about The Sword in the Stone is that the battle scene is lifted, nearly shot for shot, from a German film from the 1920's. The Adventures of Prince Achmed was one of the first full length features ever made, it was one of the first color films ever made, and Disney has plundered it thoroughly over the years. You can find it on UA-cam as long as you're willing to watch it in chapters. It's great!
I'm so glad you highlighted this character/movie! Such an underrated film in the Disney-cannon. Also, gotta give ya props for the D&D ref! (But BTW; it's pronounced "MA-gica", not "ma-GI-ca".) Love the vids though! Keep 'em coming! =)
Madam Mim also has a very heated rivalry with Goofy in the comics, as she tries to convince him that she's a real witch. Goofy, of course, thinks she's just a delusional old lady, much to Mim's frustration, who tries to prove her legitimacy to the short-sighted fool with increasingly ridiculous ways. Another character worth noting (get ready because we're now getting to the really deep comic cuts) is the witch Garma from the Wizards of Mickey series (a fantasy epic about Mickey, Donald, and Goofy being powerful sorcerers who fight against all sorts of threats, chief amongst them the Phantom Blot, who's recast as a sort of Voldermort-type power-hungry dark wizard), a Madam Mim-inspired old hag who delights in inflicting pain on others and revels in their misery, even her own teammates (one of them being Magica). What's interesting about her, however, is that unlike Mim, she didn't choose her hideous form. She used to be the wife of a legendary warrior, her beauty and cruelty unparalelled in all the kingdom, but when she tricked her husband into riding into his death by stealing his shield, she became shunned and had to leave, surviving off of the misery of others, until her physical appearance became as monstrous as her soul. But because both her personality and role is similar to that of Mim (I don't know if she was directly inspired), I found her worth mentioning.
Excuse me for the correction but you are probably referring to Witch Hazel a much more benevolent old witch who first appeared in the classic disney short ''Trick or Treat''
@@twistedteller Oh shit you're right, I had forgotten about that cartoon, I thought it was Mim because the Looney Tunes also have a witch Hazel so I forgot that Disney has one too.
I was so surprised when the comic book covers appeared and I managed to read and recognize the titles, lol. I had to genuinely stop for a moment thinking that I had confused the languages so much that I was imagining things. I'm from Brazil, so I recognized the covers in Portuguese, not only that, as I have two comic books of these to this day! Right here on the bookshelf in my room, I read these comics so much when I was little that I can remember what's in each one just picking up and seeing the cover. I wanted to have more with these two, or Magic in particular, I love this villain duck sorceress. But I have mainly the most common Mickey, Donald and friends ones. Oh, and our beloved Zé Carioca, the carioca parrot. I love that damn bird, i guess he being a canon brazilian character of disney interacting with the other North American characters from the comics helps a lot, lol.
Mim had a major role in the book "Donald Duck and the Witch Next Door". Though she is not referred to as Mim in this story, we know it is her. Donald's meddling gets him on Mim's bad side and she turns him into a watermelon and a frog.
I watched this movie for the first time. While it’s not one of their best, it still has its own charm. I like most of the characters, the more chill tone, it has some solid slapstick, and of course Madam Mim is a delightful villain.
Will need to rewatch Jungle Book before you come out with the next one. We didn’t own it when I was a kid, so I only saw it once as a child when we rented it from the video store.
Very excited for The Jungle Book one! I wonder if you’ll include King Louie? He’s a curious case (and the only one I can think) of a villain in his original movie but then nothing afterwards treats him as such because of how fun he is
I'm German, and the German title of "The Sword in the Stone" is "Die Hexe und der Zauberer", meaning "The Witch and the Wizard". That always confused me as a child, because she is only such a small part of the movie. I remember we had the movie on videotape, my dad had recorded it when it was shown on TV (man, that makes me sound old... I'm in my twenties). I just looked it up on wikipedia, and it's about 20 years ago that dvds became more popular than videotape in Germany... and now dvds are becoming less and less popular, as streaming services are on the rise... It's so weird how much things can change in such a short time.
Hi Colin, Maybe because you mentioned Cruella in her Disney Chills book series you could do a Disney chills episode please? Because Captain Hook and Maleficent have their books as well. Plus, When he gets up to Ursula, Scar, Hades, and Dr. Facilier in the future along with other Disney villains that might get into the Disney Chills book series make sure to include their references in those books too because they’re also in there and said he included some of those billings already. I wouldn’t want those facts to get left out. Here’s to hoping you find this idea a possibility! Please?
Hopefully you'll be doing the Disney villains retrospective of Rudyard Kipling The Jungle Book and let me tell there is a lot of media related to the jungle book some by Disney and other from other animation studio.
You forgot to mention she appeared in the Donald Duck story "The Witch Next Door," in which she lived in a gingerbread house next door to Donald and his nephews.
I know I said this on the episode covering Fun and Fancy Free (1947), but it bears repeating: I actually have a theory that Mad Madam Mim trained Willie the Giant in magic as a kind of inverse to Merlin training Arthur in using his wits. Think about it: both can shrink, fly up high like the birdies, disappear into atmosphere, and turn into pink animals. In the Kingdom Hearts games we know that Merlin can travel to other worlds, so Mim being on par with him in terms of power should be able to do the same, and it would make thematic sense for Mim to train Willie to focus on the magic and not using his wits, further proving that there are no bad students only bad teachers. Why the comics never explored that idea I'll never know.
So sad we missed out on Madam Mime in other media...especially those lovely European Comics! She looks like she was a real hoot! Especially with Magika( pronounced Magic-kah) De-Spell! Man I love these witches!
To answer a question I've seen a few times before, the creature Mim transforms into in the book is called an "aullay,." I'm not even sure if I pronounced it correctly, to be honest. My apologies for any confusion.

I always imagined her appearance in modern Duckburg means she's either a time- traveler or it's an alternate reality. Given the personality change, I'd say it's the latter.
@@stormstrider1990 Merlin clearly uses time travel in the movie, so there is precedent for the former.
@@christopherwall2121 Good point. Maybe Merlin sent her to Duckburg to get rid of her without killing her.
Bruh wtf is your profile picture
Madam Mim sure is an entertaining character.
Interesting note: When she turned into a beautiful woman, she used her apperance, singing and dancing to charm Wart.
After that, she turned back into her original form in a not so subtle way. Then you can see that Wart is not comfortable with her.
She charmed Wart only to take that away. Which is kinda mean... or should I say mad :D
Wart goes "Well when Merlin changes into something, he changes into something useful!" Adult Wart would have found hot Mim to be VERY useful. I'm just sayin haha
@@jamestyler7697 OH, the internet has found her beautiful form VERY useful...
I do know that her beauty form was one of my gay awakenings and then i forgot the whole movie except the pretty lady and when i watched it again and saw she wasnt pretty i did feel cheated lol
@@maca76 the movie with the pretty lady
Kid you was iconic
Eu li varias historias da Madame Min e A Maga Patalogica Juntas, elas tem um boa dinâmica que torna divertido as interações delas
I used to repeat her "Sounds like someone's sick! How lovely" crack and get yelled at all the time lmao
Brilliant episode I didn’t expect Reynard the fox, seems like he was bit complex in terms of portraying as a hero/Villain, The Beast gave Walt/90s Disney the same issue as well. Definitely lookin forward to Jungle Villains, Shere Khan’s my fav
Madame Mim in the comics would fit in with the Addams family well.
She kinda looks like an upbeat version of the grandma 😂
4:52 - Those she always sings about herself to anyone walking by when someone near her says Merlin's name?
One of my favourite underappreciated Disney villians.
One of my favorite Disney reactions involves her 😂
"... And you *caught me* Mim!"
"WHAT?!"
Mim reminds me of one of those eccentric but lovable old grannies, happy to be in her Golden Years and ready for chaos and parties.
3:59 Mad Madam Mim
6:55 The Other “Villains”
12:49 Reynard The Fox
16:52 The Wilkins Wolf
6:25 fact that most disney villains care for beauty, she accepts who she is, happy crazy witch that loves magic and bad things, thats why she is probably my fav disney villain(or maybe cus her beauty form is 🔥)
It was obvious from the description that this unmade Chanticleer film eventually became Rock-A-Doodle, but the parts about the rooster being mayor and the fox wanting to raid the henhouse remind me of Disney's first adaptation of Chicken Little from the 40s (where the fox won).
That's a good point. I wouldn't be surprised if that short had Reynard inspiration as well.
I loved that Cartoon!
When I went to Disneyland last year for Halloween I saw a couple dressed as sexy Mim and hip Merlin
@@Victoria-cm7yh See, exactly that is what I mean.
Madam Mim is my mother favourite character, she used to have a big collection of her comics she donated everything to the public library before I was born, but as a person that bought Disney comics for some time and still have them nowadays she is rare to appear but quite a treat when she does
Yes can't wait for the next Villain Retrospective. Villains of The Jungle Book. Shere Khan, Kaa, King Louie, the Bandar Log, and Don Karnage
This was so ironic because even tho madam mim hasnt been seen at disney park almost ever, theres actually a costumed character right now at the disney oogie boogie bash
i used to read a lot of Disney comics as a kid and after a while seeing Madam in Duckburg-centered comics, i almost started associating her more to Donald than to Sword in the Stone
wish i had known how to contact you, since i could have given a hand with translating the Brazilian comics that feature her
I just love these videos so much. They are so needed in this world right now.
Fitting that Sword in the Stone episode features time-travel to 2018’s Mary Poppins movie.
I am delighted you enjoyed Mim in the comics, I grew up reading them and I assumed you might not like that she isn’t that villainous.
I absolutely love how you're showing artwork of the cards from the Disney Villainous board game.
I’ve always had a fondness for Mim. Thanks for the trivia!
Oh that character! knew all that r34 looked familiar.
Her pretty form has quite the following.
Oh, I am loving your useage of 'Villianous' artwork. Got the expansion with Mim a few days ago.
Also, there is one interesting thing about Merlin in the film. During an argument with Wart when fate has given the boy a chance to be Kay's squire, he says something to Merlin. I can't remember what exactly, but I believe it was something like 'You know all this stuff about the future, but you don't understand a thing about the present.'
While Merlin has the excuse of propehtic visions and time travel, he is still so dead set on those visions that anything that could mess with them are seen as an annoyance.
New retrospective upload today is a good day
i was really looking forward to this one! And now i'm really looking forward to the jungle book one

Say, do you think that tidbit of Reynard the Fox was one of the inspiration sources for the original plot of Zootopia, when Nick Wilde was accused (and likely framed) of a crime he didn't commit?
🐘🐎 Also, how do you spell "Ollay"? "Olley?" "Allay?" "Allé?" "Ollé?" The creature Madam Mim was originally intended to turn into instead of a dragon. I tried searching it on Google, but I don’t know how to spell it right. Did the said creature exist in mythology or was it invented for the original book of the Sword in the Stone?
I'm not sure about the Zootopia plot, but the animal Mim transformed into was spelled "aullay." I have no idea if it existed outside the story, and I could not find that information when I made the video.
Great video, loved the bonus villains.
Looking forward to the Jungle Book video, haven't been this excited since you announced your Captain Hook one.
I'd just like to say what a delight these videos are. So much fun, so informative. They put me in a good mood. Thank you for your hard work!
Madam Mim honestly needs a Renaissance in modern Disney. She’s perfect for a modern tv series of some kind.
Being one of the Disney films we had growing up (recorded on a VHS from the TV), Mim's voice is ingrained into my memory.
Thanks for all the research you do for these. Great, as always!
Mim absolutely terrified me as a kid. Like, so much I iirc only watched the movie one time until I finally saw it again in my 20s. No other disney villain came close, and I had the Black Cauldron on VHS lol.
That stuff with the grand duke sounds like what happened in Rock a doodle
That’s because that’s movie is based on the story of Chanticleer. 😁
For next parte talking about Shere Khan, Kaa and King Louie pls
@@Adamguy2003 Personally the roles should be reversed, since Kathy Bates looks more like Ursula compared to Melissa McCarthy.
I would love to see Kathy Bates, she’d make a great Mim.

I can't wait to see your retrospective of the Toon Patrol!
I’m happy that Madam Mim was such a popular recurring antagonist in multiple Disney medium! I’d love to check out those European comic appearances! 😄
I've hadn't seen this film before but I did see quest for camelot and that was one of my favorite non disney movies during my childhood so I think I'll try to watch it at some point in time.
Mim, is part of mickey's not so scary halloween bass this year at the parks. there are videos with her and her area on the villain's photo up trail.
Madam Mim is one of my Favorite Disney Villains💜.
Oh I am SO HAPPY this is out, I am READY! 🤩🤩🤩
Appreciate the use of Disney Villainous artwork.
Average Regular Show episode
Mim actually showed up this year at DCA's vilian lair
SitS is my fave disney movie, so i thank you for some content on it
Mim had a major role in the book "Donald Duck and the Witch Next Door". Though she is not referred to as Mim in this story, we know it is her. Donald's meddling gets him on Mim's bad side and she turns him into a watermelon and a frog.
That witch duck in DuckTales, her name is Magica de spell.
He’s a curious case (and the only one I can think) of a villain in his original movie but then nothing afterwards treats him as such because of how fun he is
Welcome back me lord!

Happy 60th Anniversary, Sword in the Stone.⚔️👑🧙🦉🏰
You forgot to mention she appeared in the Donald Duck story "The Witch Next Door," in which she lived in a gingerbread house next door to Donald and his nephews.
Madam Mim is one of the latest characters to be featured in the boardgame Disney Villianous and she is an absolute blast to play as!
That sexy form though is what the internet loves
Ah so the wolf went full Ratigan....always fear when the villain goes full Ratigan
That would be so cool.
Now I'm curious to read the book.
I still remember how nice Mim’s Swedish dub sounds when she turns into her beautiful shape. ☺️
So sad we missed out on Madam Mime in other media...especially those lovely European Comics! She looks like she was a real hoot! Especially with Magika( pronounced Magic-kah) De-Spell! Man I love these witches!
I hope you do one on Madame Medusa, she was one of my favourite villainesses.
