I think the main reason they spent less time with Penelope and Colin in the first 4 episodes than they did with Daphne and Simon / Anthony and Kate in their seasons is that we already knew both of them since season 1, we've had lots of interaction between the two of them already, we knew Penelope was interested in him, we knew Colin's past... and they already knew each other very well. In the other seasons the couple had to meet for the first time and develop that interest in one another, so we had to spend more time showing them together. Once Colin realized he had actual romantic feelings for Penelope, the meat of their story is going to be the drama of the Lady Whistledown thing, and that promises to be a very exciting second half of the season.
But they didn't. Somebody added up all the on-screen times of each couple in their first 4 episodes, and all three were a little over 30 min.

Yeah, no. This was a disaster and came out of nowhere. It’s absurd and terribly written. It didn’t make justice to Penelope. There’s no longing no deep conversations, no plausible realization of feelings. It was rushed and really poorly done. I was excited for the series, and I lost interest immediately due to how bad their story is portrayed in their own season. And yes, they had 30 minutes of air time in 4 hours of part 1.
They didn't spend less time with them.
I want Penelope and Colin happy! But i know the drama is going to be big for part 2.
Oh yes, there will be drama no question about that.
And they should get their happy ending.
It would be too big of a risk breaking them up.
They would lose too many viewers.
Lets see how they go about it though

Actress Liz Keifer (not involved in this show) said that she had to do a love scene with an actor who had bad breath so she kept moving so he had to kiss her neck, and afterwards everyone was saying how sexy the scene was.

It is my understanding that in the books Colin and Francesca‘a story takes place at the same time, so I see why those are going on together. All the other stories are a continuation of the previous seasons; I don’t think it would be fair to simply throw those stories to the side, they have to keep those going. Also, we have seen Colin and Penelope since season 1, so there is no need to ‘start’ their story and waste time with that.
Love Colin and penelope but definitely agree to many storylines. Can’t wait for part 2 though the trailer has my anxiety on 10
Yea way too many storylines
Colin and Penleope have been onscreen together as much as the lead couples for the two previous seasons. There have always been side plots. Last season I could have done completely without the Featherington plot but enjoyed Eloise and Theo. I don't really care about the Featherington baby race this season either. I love Francesca and John -- it's so different because we rarely see shy or neurodivergent or quiet (whichever you interpret her to be) characters getting screentime like this. I liked seeing a little size diversity in the debutantes at the season's beginning, but we haven't seen much of it since.
I am probably more invested in the side plots than in the main couple, but I'm not the biggest fan of Lady Whistledown's behavior, although Nicola does a good job and makes you want to forget. (I know the bulk of fandom is pro-Whistledown/Pen, and I don't want to go through that argument again, so please just ignore me if you love them, everyone.) I think Penelope would be happier with Colin than with a husband who leaves her for years at a time, title and estate or no, though.

This was so disappointing… so poorly done and written. Like Netflix and the new show runner know they already have a fandom that will agree with anything they do that they didn’t even try. It’s a mess and absurd, not believable, rushed and poorly done. I’m sorry for Penelope’s character, she deserved better. But the fans of these sort of shows have no critical thinking they will eat anything they give them

The new show-runner decides to redo Simon‘s ark. And just scrap the character that they set up for two seasons.
Simon’s ark makes sense for him. It makes sense why he would be so selfish. He is an abused, traumatized man. 👨🏾 Who is touch starved? And affection starved. He’s never really known love devotion safety. Affection & Acceptance.
Colin doesn’t struggle from any of that. He grew up in a loving household. He’s always been supported and taken care of.
The level of the disrespect of how they destroyed Colins character in comparison to every single other male character. Is an unforgivable offense.
1. Anthony at least had the decency to get himself a consistent mistress for years. so he’s not fathering potential bastards to be ignored. An STD’s
2. Benedict doesn’t pay for prostitutes. He sleeps with willing independent empowered women. not systematically oppressed prostitutes.
3. John Sterling is adorable.
4. Lord Debling by comparison, a truly secure man 🧍♂️ who stands for his own conviction.
5. Featherington girls husbands are cinnamon rolls
The Colin we got. Is undeserving of. The ever faithful ever waiting, {Penelope}. Loyal to Odysseus wayward wondering 🤔 Man W***ing ass.
They had so much potential. The chemistry and story in season 1 and 2 were so cute and refreshing but the writers instead chose to turn it into a typical overused fuckboy redemption story. There are other ways where they could express the 'trying to fit in' storyline but they chose to ruin Colin's character instead. 😤

I can pretend to be a thief, but if I’m actually thieving, then I’m a thief. It’s not a persona or an act. It’s who I am. Because it’s what I’m doing.
Having Colin be a sellout to his morals and values. That he once held also dear. After one summer away because Penelope didn’t write ✍🏻 him ? compromises him as man in the eyes 👀 of his fan base.
Simon and Anthony never held such values so they weren’t betraying anything.
They were never 👎 emotionally intelligent to begin with. This is a journey they had to learn.
But Colin is. He Had the perfect set up to tell a different story with a different male lead and they copied and paste and did the same exact thing.
An emotional intelligent man thinks about these things. When Anthony tried to. Belittle him in season 1. For not being like him. And he proudly stood against it, proclaiming who he was. And who he intends to be. that was sexy to me that was a man.
The groundwork was all there. And the fact that Colins’s name actually means (Cub/Pup 🐶 ). And they ruined him by turning him into a dog. 🐕
Colin was supposed to be one of the exceptions. All the Featherington girls were supposed to marry cinnamon rolls.
It’s not fake or faking when you actually sell your integrity down the river. Just to be accepted. And become everything you proclaimed that you were not. You are who you choose to be.
When your morals can be compromised just for the sake of pointless validation.
What would’ve actually given him a leg 🦵 to stand on is if he wasn’t doing everything he suddenly deemed reprehensible.
And unworthy of the title of gentlemen
If Colin had felt a bone-deep disdain for this ridiculous society that he had been born into. He would’ve held himself to a different standard, hold on to his Morals even if was just privately.

Colin was held to a different standard than Simon and Anthony. Is it right? Is it fair? 🤷🏽♀️.
He’s the puppy. He’s the sweet loyal Hufflepuff 🦡. He’s supposed to be cuddly and non-threatening one.
Simon and Anthony are best friends for a reason they’re both touched in head, assholes. It’s understandable, why they are the way they are. We know from the books that Anthony is planning on dying young like his father so he’s trying to avoid attachments. The man is a bit tweaked in the head from taking on so much responsibility at the age of 18 and having to deal with his postpartum depressed grieving mother and all of his 7 siblings.
At the end of Anthony season. He learned that the man that he was was no man at all. He was a reprehensible thoughtless Cad. Who needed to humble himself to deserve his soulmate. And you’re telling me the lesson Colin learned in this is be a W*** in 17 cities. 🌆
Colin is a trust fund brat, who gets to travel the world on his rich 🤑 inheritance. Making him a Mr. World international Rake. Makes him extremely selfish. Even more than Simon and Anthony.
I saw on Instagram a interview that the actor (Luke) didn’t like the whole brothel scene. He said the characterization came out of nowhere for him. Kinda took him by surprise. 😮
It’s one thing to surprise your audience with a character change, but to completely deform the character to point your wondering, who the hell is this creep?
Long story short Colins reasoning for becoming this man is empty and hollow and it makes Colin looks empty and hollow.
Colin have spoken so strongly against the practice before. a true gentleman would never expose his lady to such a health hazard. What does it mean of Colin, that you would risk Penelope like that?"

Season three has a new show runner new writer ✍🏻 that’s why the quality of the characters and the writing has dropped.
I actually really disliked the writing for part of season 1 and i was not into at all for season 2. And being a book reader, i must say the new Show runner was actually trying to bring Colin back after they basically messed up his in S1 and S2. But i agree that they should've dedicated more time to Pen and Colin because i loved their scenes together.

plus we also have Francesca in this season so they have to give time to the three of them but bc we already know Colin and Pen we don't need the discovery of they're character i think we gonna have more of them in part 2. Colin needed time on his own and so did Pen i actually think that was a good choice for Pen and try to move on and Colin finally realise that he had feelings for Pen i'm pretty sure if we didn't have Pen 'love interest" they would have been together in epsiode 7 or maybe 8 when that wasn't necessary bc they already know each others and after waiting for it for two seasons that wouldn't be the right choice (my opinion)
