Imagine if it was turboed and tuned . Imagine doing a burnout and the cops turned up after the smoke disappeared, they wouldn’t think for a minute it was a truck doing.
Some of us are old enough to remember when Australians converted everything in sight to straight 6 Holden or Ford engines 😂....it's a tradition that's as old as time.
Interesting review of the “BarraZuzu”, Ross. I love this thing, you don’t see these to often. Goes to show how good the Barra is, after 300,000km it can still pull a 4ton truck from 0-100km in 28 seconds. The old Diesel engine that was in it would have been no where near as quick. It’s made a big difference to this truck. The auto being added to it would make it very easy to drive too. Thanks for the review.
@@Low760 Let's be honest here, from what I could see it really struggled to get to a 100, could just be the crappy auto they use but I'm positive it was empty so once you put a few ton in the back it's going to be hopeless, atleast with the turbo you will have the torque needed, there's a reason why trucks use turbo diesels.
@@RossReviewsau byo fake plates & balaclavas for the fuel stops. ⛽️ 🤣 everyone with a pulse drives a full fuel tanked rental like they stole it. On 1/4 tank it gets driven like granny 👵 is steering.
That’s what I call a sensible swap and if I was an owner driver this is exactly what I would do, smooth and quiet with an auto trans no worries, it reminds me like back in the early seventies when a friend bought a new Toyota Dyna and a month after he bought it he turfed the gutless 4 cylinder petrol donk that wouldn’t pull a sailor off your sister and had installed a 202 Holden donk in it which was a popular swap in Dyna’s back then, this guys made a good cost effective decision
Just a shame it wasnt adapted to the original manual gearbox, that would have been a good combo. Otherwise the ZF 6 speed would have been a better choice for both performance/economy, but also longevity. The BTR isnt the most bulletproof of boxes, hopefully its got a good transmission cooler. Plus the tall first gear in the BTR would be torture fully loaded versus the lower geared first and second in the 6HP26. Just the same, I reckon the Barra would be a fantastic truck motor and I really love the uniqueness of this build. Love that its a proper work truck in revenue service. Also extra points for the custom stickers.
@@RossReviewsau Yeah adapting to the original manual gearbox would have required custom bellhousings and modification to the input shaft and various other drive train re-engineering. I reckon getting a donor with the ZF 6HP26 would have been more ideal, but we all know how ideal life is. Certainly having the incredibly short truck diff ratio would make up somewhat for the tall 1st in the BTR, but the extra gear reduction in 1st and 2nd with a 6HP26 would make for a much more energetic launch, and generally be more driveable. The 6HP26 is a much snappier and less lazy natured transmission than the BTR, and more suited to truck work. But again, when something comes along for the right price then beggars cant be choosers. As it is this would still be way easier to drive than the original diesel and manual combo for the average person hiring a truck, and still provide smooth power.
