      @@comedybytescast I find that hard to believe ... she loves Cruise & McQ and the whole M:I team. EDIT: Oops, quick Google search would've saved me that post. Yep, she's now saying it was "collaborative" because she'd signed a 3-picture deal. When these big films rope you in, you either stick with the deal or get blackballed from Hollywood for eternity, so she decided not to renew. Makes sense. And makes for a dramatic exit and powerful motivator for Ethan, Benji and Luther.

      Nope, she's not in the cast list and, more importantly, Ferguson had a 3-picture deal that she purposely chose not to extend. Dead Reckoning 2 or whatever it winds up being called would count as a fourth picture. After the actors got ripped off in Lester's "Three Musketeers," which was only later broken up into two movies, the SAG rules were changed to clarify sequels as separate movies. Ilsa's definitely dead

      Not even Jesus Chirst himself can save this movie. Way too dumb, bad shot, awful cast, awful screenplay. A disgrace to the saga. Just like MI2: music is the only good thing but overall not the best in the saga: to people aware of soundtracks MI5 has the best soundtrack by miles; more various, more classic, more genius, more coherent with what's happening on screen.
      Look at this scene: the music itself is very good, but someway it looks disconnected from the rythm of the scene, it's too costant; it's better if listened alone, and that's never a good thing for a soundtrack. Now compare it with Vienna, Casablanca Chase music, Solomon Lane in the glass box, Ilsa vs Bone Doctor. Just something else.

Plus McQ's been wanting to kill a major character for a while now. Brandt was supposed to die at the opening of Fallout, but Renner didn't think it was worth taking off from Hawkeye (where he was a producer as well) just to die in M:I. Convenient & laziest executed death for Ilsa's character...This movie had some dumb writing choices. Forced, unearned & unceremonious death really ruined the emotional impact they were going for. Or even, If it was Solomon Lane who killed her somehow that would have made a better impact than this 'whoever this guy is'. We know nothing about him or his capabilities. What a waste of a good score!

    • @marcobeltrami4093
      @marcobeltrami4093 2 місяці тому +4

      There was definitely some problem in production: i heard Ferguson wanted more space and screentime but Cruise and McQ didnt want to give her that, so she chose to leave. This death is the worst executed part of the movie and i kinda feel it's McQ revenge on her, just like Nolan with Cotillard. I dont see any other reason to humiliate Ilsa like that: being killed with a sword against a knife, by a mid villain like Gabriel, is seriously one of the dumbest deaths ever. She dies in the middle of the movie and things just go on as nothing happened, Ethan is like "oh no, anyway".
      I may be wrong but McQ never shot a fight in such a bad way.
      Pretty sure i'm never gonna see a MI movie again: to screw the saga narrative development on actors fights is just too much for me.

    The moment when Gabriel stabbed Elsa in the leg when she tried to dodge like the special leg was the turning point, after that all Gabrielle had to do was be patient as she just started to swing hard, perhaps out of desperation to end the fight quickly because she was no longer able to use her leg effectively, and this is what made him... Its easy to exploit, limited mobility and eventually overcome

  • @McLovinRythmAndBlues
    @McLovinRythmAndBlues Місяць тому +6

    I had a very strange experience with this movie. I watched it without knowing anything about the previous chapters: i found the first part of the movie to be extremely bland and boring. When Ilsa showed up things changed suddenly: she was just the stereotypical love interest of the protagonist and it was so obvious she was gonna die, but something in her magnetism just took me away from the sleepy attitude i was into; dialogues and Gabriel were a bit cringe but i was on the edge of my seat. When she died i wasnt surprised or sad, despite the delusional depiction, i expected that to happen. But i still checked out: for the rest of the movie i kept shaking my head under the impression the movie had sacrificed its real protagonist to Cruise useless stunts. While i liked Paris the other girl was too mid and anonymous, i lived the whole movie with the annoying feeling the screenwriter was trying so hard to make her the protagonist (Cruise aside) she wasnt meant to be. I felt she just didnt belong to this story, she kinda ruined the atmosphere for me: the movie tried every way to make her interesting, but i just couldnt give less, i didnt care. Something just didnt click with her character, i found her to be stiff and repetitive, while i kept thinking about the beautiful lady on the bridge and how much i could have loved the movie if she was there in her place.

    Say whatever, I don't believe she died. Ethan was way too "ok, anyways" with it, it was very anticlimactic, they show she can fake her own death easily earlier and the whole point of trying to defeat the AI is to make things it can't predict. It was already proven wrong (Ethan didn't kill Gabriel and Gabriel didn't kept the key") and with Ilsa being "dead" she's out of the "board" of the "game" and can be used later. I think she (and Luther) will be a great part in defeating it

    Biggest missed opportunity of the FRANCHISE!
    Ilsa: "come away with me" (There was there "Love" theme playing) The same music playing when they first met at the concert hall.
    That music was the PERFECT melody and send off for Ilsa's character, its SUPER SAD but perfect for their theme and bond they had conveyed through that music.
    Test it out yourself (Mute this video, open another tab and listen to "Finale and Curtain Call" Just the first 30 seconds or so fits beautiful with when Ethan finds her.

Gabriel himself said he had not come for the key because the Entity had predicted he would get it on the train the next day.

    The music really adds to the sense of urgency to the scene, the constant build up thinking that Ethan's gonna make it just in time to help her and the desperate feeling that it's just one more obstacle, one more alleyway, one more bridge, and bam, she gets stabbed in the heart right as he's about to make it to her. We can argue about the scene all day and whether it was right to write off the character this way, but there's no denying that it's still masterful cinematography and musical blending.

    According to Rebecca said on "UnWrapped" podcast, Apparently, there were differences between the production side and Rebecca, which led to her leave.
    It seemed that the producers and Tom prioritized new characters and underestimated Ilsa. After all, this is a movie of Tom Cruise, by Tom Cruise, and for Tom Cruise, so maybe it was inevitable that the character Ilsa would be treated like that.
    That's why Paramount should definitely make a series of spy movies with Ilsa as the main character!!

    It's too bad a performance to have Ilsa removed from the MI series.
    If you look at Ilsa's knife battle in Rogue Nation, it's obvious that Ilsa is clearly more capable of fighting than Gabrielle.
    It's a very childish idea to have someone die in order to make the viewers feel the difficulty of the mission,
    and it's even more unnatural to kill off a strong supporting character like Ethan.
    the other screenwriter, Erik Jendresen and Tom who is also the producer, really don't understand why they made this decision.

    This 100% unnatural death may have been because Rebecca wanted Ilsa to play a further role in the play, but the director and Tom Cruise refused that, or because Rebecca was bored with the role of Ilsa, so she decided to leave the role.
    In other words, I think the behind-the-scenes circumstances and the rift between Rebecca and the directors were reflected in this work.
    That's why I think this death was unnatural and not understood by anyone.

    I'll be honest, I think the death is fine but the issue is that I think it happened at the wrong time, maybe it was done because Rebecca Ferguson was doing Dune Part 2 & Silo and wasn't too available but I think me, like a lot of people see Ilsa as the one reason for Ethan Hunt to leave the life behind which is to me what these last few films are trying to set up but I could be wrong.
    I do like Grace and I wouldn't want her to die here either, but I think Ilsa should have survived at least Dead Reckoning and died in MI:8 if this scene is destined to have payoff but as it stands on it's own, it's a cheap death meant to make us think there's a chance that Ethan's grief will cause him to kill Gabriel in the third act which would allow The Entity to win.
