- Today I was ready to grab the keys and head to Samy’s Camera to buy the X-T5.. after watching some reviews I decided to do some research of my own. Sharing in case it can help others out there. .. maybe next video I share why you don’t need the X100V to be hip.
Thoughtful review. I upgraded from the T4 to the H2S, wanting the improved speed, autofocus, and form factor. I got EXACTLY what I wanted. Thanks for the content.
Thank you for your comment. X-H2S is a beast with amazing colors. Glorious EVF.
Buy it, its a game changer, started with the initial X100, XPRO1, etc ... XPRO3, XT4 ... then came the XT5 ... the censor and the stabilizer is amazing ... focus is much better than the other ones
I went back to X-H2S. Prefer better AF for moving objects and don’t need 40MP.
The XT5 is a beast! Mini GFX but wayyy faster! 🔥❤️
dpreview is not working anymore . It was working for a minute or so then it does not load .
One thing to consider when comparing ISO and how resolves a test chart is : when you are looking at XT5 , the image is "zoomed in" . Wonder how a photo would look if you can make all the 4 camera image the same size . But 40mp is not on par what 40mp should be , rather upscaled image of XT4 . I dont know if that makes sense what I wanted to describe .
if I can recommend a video : ua-cam.com/video/t6mrMDo94UI/v-deo.html
I think all boils down to sensor size . Both XT4 and 5 is APSC . Just XT5 is 40mp . so what you are looking have more noise . Probably XT5 sensor should be bit better , since Fujifilm improved technology .
Other is which lens did they use in test charts . Do XT4 and XT5 exactly same lens... idk
With a lot of gear, older used is unfortunately not cheaper than brand new these days. Weird market!
I'm not sure this comparison is valid? The way the tool views the higher megapixel images is more zoomed in, so yeah you're gonna see the noise better. If the two images were sized equally, I think the difference may not be so meaningful. I have an X-T5 and the noise has been.. fine? Especially when it most just disappears the second I get the AI denoise button in LRC.
These comparisons are not valid because the samples are all different sizes because you are viewing at 100 per cent with different megapixel counts. If you view at equal size the noise of the X-T5 will be lower because each pixel is smaller and the sharpness will increase. As someone who has owned both the 4 and 5 the IQ on the 5 is better, unless you intend to view at 100 per cent, in which case go or a 12mp sensor or lower. In fact the 5 beats the 4 in pretty much every respect. Unfortunately you analysis is likely to mislead a lot of people because you don’t know how to do a proper comparison.
Thank you for letting us know we can only compare in a specific way.
Agreed.

Very thoughtful review. Thank you.
Thank you.
Rarely these days is a single generation jump of anything tech based worth the financial outlay, dependent on how much money you have of course. May well get the XT-6 and keep my 4 as a backup.
True. However, the jump from X-H1 to X-H2S is significant. I’ve now tried Sony, Nikon and Canon.. and came back to the X-H2S.
Nice video. I have the xt3 and am generally very satisfied with it. Regarding dynamic range, do you think that there has been an appreciable improvement with the newer Fuji models? Thanks
From what I’ve read it’s about 3 stops of DR improvement. What you’re likely to notice is focusing in low light and AF improvements. X-H2S is the only Fuji I can use like a Sony A7IV in that I don’t have to focus and recompose or focus at/on eye.. can literally turn on eye detect and use BBF to hold focus on eye and compose shot as you please. It’s like cheating.
@@TCinSoCal Thanks a lot!
I use Alphvgard skins instead of gaffing tape. I was shooting out at Mardis Gras this year and a few people were looking trying to figure out what it was. I even had someone ask if its a done. They are looking, protect yourself.
Agree 100%.
Ian Worth tested the XH2 (same 40mp sensor) vs the Canon R5 and it was 50/50, check out the video from a few months back. I've tested the XT5 vs the Nikon Z7II and there was no reason to buy a Z7II for better image quality. Full frame image quality with smaller size weight and cost is a no brainer. But everything else about the XT5 is an upgrade as well. The X processor 5 is worth the upgrade just by itself. Most early youtube "reviews" didn't understand that if IQ is equal and the 40mp sensor makes a larger image then IQ is NOT equal and the 40 mp's is much better.
Few people will argue better image quality here. Yes, resolution of X-T5 > X-H2S. My issue is I don’t need the 40 MP enough to get the additional noise that comes with it at medium level ISO values. I am looking at the DPR test charts now.. (no zooming) and the X-H2S at ISO 3200+ looks better than the X-T5.. lower MP sensor has better contrast at ISO 3200+. .The bottle ‘ Honey Ridge Farms’ looks significant worse at ISO 6400 on the X-T5.. noise, contrast.. even sharpness. You can pick anywhere on this chart at ISO 3200+ and the X-H2S image looks better. I know the X-T5 is a resolution beast.. I just prefer not having noise, loss of contrast, etc.. kick in so early in the ISO value range.
Agree 💯. I don’t mind that the 5 exists. It’s a good option for people that want a tilt screen and that form factor. But it gave me no real reason to upgrade from the 4. I can make the AF work. I love the battery grip, which isn’t an option on the 5. I dont want the megapixels. If I were ever to upgrade I’d probably go straight for the H2S.
I went back to X-H2S after trying A7IV & R6ii.
@@TCinSoCal Fuji forever baby!
@@jimmason8502 loving being back!
@@TCinSoCal can i ask why? I'm very curious why you'd go with the h2s and not canon when the tests show it handles high iso much better. Thanks!
@@TCinSoCal Why did you go back?
Other comparison videos show the opposite. I can even see MUCH improvement on the camera review screen between my xt3 and xt5
Do you set your NR to -4? It’s the first thing I do with any Fuji body. I can’t stand Fuji’s NR.
Other videos show the X-T5 having better high ISO noise than the X-T4? I haven’t seen those. I’ve seen ..‘it’s so close’ and ‘the ISO noise at/above 3200 isn’t THAT bad’.. I’m not normally one for clinical testing but the controlled environment/lighting shows more noise at equivalent/lower ISO values from the X-T5.
After testing multiple systems I have gone back to the X-H2S… for me it’s the best balance of resolution, AF, colors, and ergonomics. My side hustle is an X-Pro2.
the video is bullshit
Have you tried the xh2s for birds?
No. I don’t shoot birds.
@@TCinSoCalthanks. I cannot decide between the xt5, xh2 and the ch2s. Do you have any opinion on the xh2 vs vs S version? Do you think 40mp sensor is better than the 26 mostly for photography.
@@mrsvetly What type of photography? Out of the 3 I would pick one of the X-H models.. they are better built and have a much better EVF. Between the X-H2S and X-H2 I think it comes down to what you are shooting. If you are shooting moving things.. X-H2S hands down. If you are shooting landscape, portraits, etc. in a slow/controlled setting.. likely X-H2. I have seen many videos here with people not 100% .. or 90% happy with the AF/eye detection of the X-H2. I can tell you that I am VERY happy with the AF/eye detection of the X-H2S… especially after recent firmware updates. I have an image that is kind of a joke.. it is out of focus, not level.. but the eye is perfection. I will say that the new 1.4 lenses (18/23/33) pair very well with the X-H line. For me, I don’t need 40MP in that I don’t crop and don’t need 80 MB files.. I do all my editing in Lightroom on iOS. If I was ONLY landscape I would consider the X-H2.. but I personally need the AF of the X-H2S for family, sports, etc.
@@TCinSoCal thanks for your opinion. I would be doing all kinds of photography- people, dogs, birds, landscaping. I think i would go for the xh2s ad it’s more future proof. Fuji just released updates for some zoom lenses as well. If you have any I would check if there’s any update for for yours.
Great work - keep it up - love your insight !!
Thank you.
