I'm a single working 22 year old who is interested in starting to provide foster respite care within the next couple years. Thank you for this! Would you have any suggestions for preparing for respite care in particular?
My daughter adopted my granddaughter. Her grandmother and I was very involved. I would pick her up from school. We would go somewhere to eat. Than go home to do school work. My wife would take her to Doctor and dentist appointments. When school was out she would come and stay with us during the day. It worked well for us.
I have been WAITING for a video like this. I'm a 40 yr old paralegal, about to have a hysterectomy at the end of this month, and want to figure out now how to grow our lives moving forward. Just watched the video and you offered a wealth of knowledge. Thank you!

What’s the best way to start familiarizing with my city and county’s specific requirements and expectations? I know I could reach out to agencies directly, but I also know they’re overloaded. I’m not ready to start just yet, so I don’t want to waste their time if there’s something I can do independently. Thanks again for all you do!

@@emmib1388 A country that can give billionaires tax breaks can pay those child care workers. Even if they have to give billionaires slightly smaller tax breaks.

If the ultra wealthy payed their fair share in taxes and if our country closed all the intentional loopholes the ultra wealthy use, we could fund all the social issues. Trumps tax cut alone lost us 1 trillion tax dollars over 10 years, for social issues. If our government actually worked for the average American, and not the ultra wealthy and corporations, we’d be better off. Now they have to cut Medicare, food assistance, veterans care and soooo much more to make up for the lost tax revenue. Oh and our over bloated defense spending that ends up in the pockets of defense contractors and not the actual soldiers who die and risk their lives. See where I’m going, you’ve been brainwashed into thinking that we can’t make the government work for us, because that’s what the ultra wealthy have been force feeding us.

Those billionaires that you reference, are taking the same tax deduction you are eligible for...the only difference ...they employ more people than you probably do. If you don't like the tax system, contact your state representative.
Wow in Australia all fostered kids get childcare free well paid for by the department child protection, I'm a childcare worker and we get children that are fostered most I've cared for are fostered by a relative eg grandparents
Let's be realistic here. It's not "free." It's being paid for by the taxpayer. And to be brutally honest these are the only children in Australia who should be receiving taxpayer funded childcare. It certainly shouldn't be going towards upper middle class welfare for parents earning incomes of $300k plus per annum.....
@@lizzy9975 I wouldn't be at work if I had to pay full daycare fees at $ 165 a day that's what I earn a day so yes childcare needs to be funded but my tax covers it ps it's not given to those earning over 250k a yr so ya 300k earners pay full fees
depends where you are. In my state in Australia you get a foster carer allowance from state that is to cover food, basic travel, medical, clothes etc, just to cover costs of all the normal kid stuff. it's about 500-550 per fortnight. there are some allowances for childcare for young kids. if there are extra expenses eg for special medical, psychological, educational, travel etc then that will most likely be reimbursed. You are also eligible for the various family tax benefits, parenting payments etc from federal govt the same as any other parent - in most cases this would apply for medium to longer term placements. You can be single, married, straight, gay, male, female
Thank you for this information! We hope to do foster-to-adopt in a few years, and this helps me feel more comfortable that my job (telework with a fairly flexible schedule) won't be a problem at all. ^_^

Child care should always be free, especially for unprivileged, traumatized children. I hope 2023 brings more social justice around the world!

With my agency, we’re not allowed to be at visitations with bio family.
Do you get paid to Foster? Can you be single not married
To my knowledge in many places (definitely not all countries) it's possible; the stipulations will be slightly different. :)
It’s more like a volunteer position, the government gives money for the child’s basic necessities.
I have heard of single foster parents.
I live in Illinois. I'm a single foster parent and I get a monthly stipend.
