  • Master Kim visited New Orleans for the first time in over 20 years, and we put together a belt ceremony for him to preside over. I was among many who tested and I will just be sharing some of the parts of my test and other demos.

Great video - which knuckles did you use to break the board? I see you used a vertical fist?

I always punch with my first two knuckles! It doesn’t really matter if this is done with a vertical or horizontal fist, I’ve just always trained it vertical and am more comfortable that way so that’s why I did that here

@@MattHinkamp vertical fists are awesome. But how did you manage to connect with the top 2 knuckles? Most index knuckles, esp on a straight surface, don't connect? Unless you bend your wrist to make the connection. Is that what you do?

I remember seeing Jackie Chan do a break with an egg in his hand a while back. I know he has a black belt in Hapkido, is this a common HKD demo technique? (I train in a variant of HKD but my primary art is TKD)

I’ve seen a few people do it, but I don’t think it’s specific to HKD. Any striking art like karate or TKD would have similar techniques

@Aiden Fisher oh really? I have never seen any reference to it being an honorary black belt. I have only seen that him and Sammo Hung trained with a Grand Master Kim

What did the coconut do to you ? It never translates in real world

Silly comment. Breaking techniques don’t have to have anything to do with self defense to still demonstrate technique, conditioning, and strengthening. Just like practicing a musical instrument will not help you in the street. Broaden your view

@@MattHinkamp Silly answer Its waste of time and proves nothing . Give the food to the poor . You look foolish !!! Boxers dont break coconuts and hit way harder than u.

@@okish02 I’ll continue this conversation with you if you watch my video on Why Practice More Than Combat. It answers the holes in your logic. Otherwise, work on your superiority complex

@@MattHinkamp If you were some expert that i need to watch then that would different. Breaking has no impression on me what so ever . Boards dont hit back ! But if it makes you feel good knock your socks off . If you need lessons in true martail arts we can discuss a proper training regime for you .
