    Hey man, this video really inspires me. I started playing about a year ago and hired an instructor to help me out. He told me everything I was doing was wrong technique, skill, etc. So I stopped playing. I set up my kit again about a week ago, and although I can only do VERY basic things, I'm having a lot more fun with it. Props to you and all your vids, looking forward to watching the new ones :)

    I dig this guy so far. I've had music teachers who don't remember jack shit from schooling, and I can relate the the "their style" concept. I once had an art teacher who denied me any artistic freedom because I refused to paint HIS way. creativity is freedom!

    I don't play as good a Casey but I realized not only does the way he play seem cooler and more aesthetically beautiful but it also makes it seem a lot harder than it really is which is a good thing for the entertainment factor

    Wow... Thank you man! BEST drum lesson EVER!
    I always felt that I'm not that good a drummer just because I never took any drum lesson, and I just know that I don't play the "right" way... and all this, despite the fact that I'm playing drums since 1991...
    Almost everybody who listen to me playing live tells me I'm good, but I'm always paranoid... I start to think "yeah, sure.. but my finger technique isn't that good, my right foot needs improvement, I'm left handed but I learned to play on a regular, right-handed oriented drumset so I'll never ever be that good, and so on and so on..."
    In just 10 minutes you made me realize this simple but powerful truth I never grasped before:
    THERE IS NO SPOON, aka there is NO "RIGHT" WAY to play drums...
    So yeah, I play MY WAY, I'm just in love with playing my kit, I enjoy myself, so... who cares if I don't play the "right" way?
    And if other people tells me I'm good, well... it may be that they're right... :-)
    THAT'S what you made me realize in 10 minutes!!!
    So, again, THANK YOU man!!! :-))

    I had the same thing in Martial Arts. Keep doing that and your muscles will get used to it.
    Also, some easy excercises to "warm up" (elbows, especially) before playing should help.

    Personally, i use a boom stand for my crashes and i do one of two things. I will place it normally (bell up) and boom it closer slightly higher than chest level. Or i will hang it upside down and place it over my floor tom, that way you have 1 for both occasions, i like the sound of the mid for those "filling" crashes, and the one over my floor for any kind of repeated hits where my arms or elbows could be strained.

    It's all in preference mi amigo, If it works for you then keep it that way. It will add to your style. When I first started playing, because i hadn't trained my hands to work independently i would cross my arms to do "forever by papa roach" i played gigs like that and the drummers in the audience would come up to me after and tell me how wrong i was doing it, but it worked for me and the concept of doing it however it best works for myself is what created my drumming style. You could keep it ...

    above your toms and just keep practicing (not strenuously) until the motion becomes fluid and the muscles have adapted, or you could continue with the way you were. Either way, i checked out your drum cover and you are doing well. I doubt if it makes a difference from a random person but you impressed me and i hope you make it far, ill be subscribing to you so i can see your progress :) Keep on beating those skins :)

    @TheCOOP3RDRUMM3R you should do an outro of these lessons of you playing, like 30 seconds after the video ends you say thanks and start playing a riff, for 30 seconds, every lesson video with different riffs of curse, I thought it would be better and more "proffesional" thanks for this video and sorry for my grammar :P

    to kinda answer your question, you should find a drum store and try out alot of stuff there. The perfect drumset for you is the set wich sounds the best to you. You will find drumming way more fun when playing on a good sounding kit, then on a kit that sounds rubbish!

    Any chance you could do a setup video, oof how you have your kit, setup around you. As in, placement and such. ?
    I mean, ive been drumming for about 2 years or so now, having a heap of fun. But over the last couple months, my setup just doesnt seem "natural, or comfortable for me". Changed it many times and tryed different things, but every drum kit i get on (school, home and friends) they are all different. Could help some people if you do this, im personally curious.Thanks.

    i have mine on a boom stand (i have only one crash) but if you'd look at my drum cover of toxicity tht works for me but looks kind of funny. he has his over his rack toms and i do now, but it makes my elbow tired sometimes... so...

    @COOP3RDRUMM3R This video is awesome! I play drums since I was young, but I no one ever taught me. Actually, my dad was the drummer in a rock band when he was young, so he had an electric drumset on his house. There I learnt how to play on my own, and I'm pretty good at it. Just very recently, this year, I've started taking drum lessons. Anyways, I'm planning to buy a real drumkit, not electric, and build a small acoustic room. What good & economic drumkit brand would you recommend me to buy?

      @benpranke2610 9 років тому +1

      When you play guitar, if you can keep the beat and stay in time easily and without thinking too much about it, drums will be fairly easy. Drumming is all about staying in time and creating the beat for a band (if you play with one). I'm not an expert, but I would say go for it! You might really like it and have a lot of fun doing it!

    • @larrytate1657
      @larrytate1657 9 років тому

      If u have enough time to dedicate to it than yeah. It's very hard to get awesome. To play a couple basic rock beats decently is not hard but to try to get to an advanced level is very difficult and time consuming. It's common for pro drummers to practice 6 hours a day.

    • @larrytate1657
      @larrytate1657 9 років тому

      But if u like it than def do it either way. It'll help your rhythm on guitar and sense of time at the least. It's fun too once your good and if u play in a band and need a certain groove you can play it for the drummer to show him what u want for your song. Instead of trying to explain it and the drummer looking at u confused, lol.

    heres an idea, maybe if he played the right way he could play something that sounded better and was harder. ultimately the only reason we play drums is to make music, and become better at drumming. making youtube videos is not the pinnacle of drumming. far from it. please if you watch someone drum, watch them to appreciate talent. not because it "looks cool." if thats the only reason you watch, you'll never mature musically.
