haha remember when I definitely added the pinned comment before the video went up and not a day late? Tomás Brozt's video: ua-cam.com/video/HdX1uRGbud0/v-deo.html
In the aperture one, they might be using a piston with air inside to act as a spring which would explain why they need so much weight. I have a retractable arm thing for my spa that uses a piston for this very purpose, and let me tell you it packs a punch when it recoils.
There's one major difference with the ones in the game. The weights move up instead of down. If we ignore that thing showing weights in there (maybe it's from a previous failed design), another possibility is that circular area contains a spiral spring.
That would be my guess. I assumed the belt towards the front of the arm was some sort of trebuchet part, but I think its more likely that its a wound up spring. Maybe. I'm not an engineer lol
So likely the weights are so that constant force does not need to be applied during the launch. The additional mass would give it’s momentum preference during collision so that the plate doesn’t just get stopped early. A problem with the in game model is it has no way to apply that initial force. While it has pneumatics for plate adjustment, that would not be ideal for moving all those weights. A spring mechanics would make sense and fit nicely if it replaced the weights. That would give it the initial boost it needs plus the bounce at the end of a launch. From there, a motor could pull it back into place. The spring would also account for the “calibration” as a high torque motor could coil the spring as needed.
@@frabjouspolygon2695 The way I see it, there's a piston / spring that pushes the plate to launch and the weight is there to slow it down a bit and help it return to its default position, otherwise how would Glados be able to calibrate it if there's no way to change the amount of weight
Alright! Its good to know you work hard on these! Maybe to much sometimes, take a break every now and then. Walk outside! Just don’t over work yourself
What will you do when you've finished analyzing all of the stuff from portal 2? Maybe the obvious, analyze machinery from other games and series like the Half-Life series. Basically what is currently going on. (continuing the series on new topics might bring in more people) Possibly attempting to create such machinery or models of machinery in the real world (would be expensive and time consuming, but would reel in a hell of a lot of clicks and might even be a fun learning experience) Finishing the series and doing other stuff like SFMs or whatever (pretty much the most normal thing to do) Honestly you're the one deciding what to do, not me. Just felt like giving some ideas.
nice video though the irl version is using the weight to press the plate up (aka the force the weight have down is throwing the object)... The apperture science one according to your video is actully lifting the weight again, so its 2 different ways the give the energi to the object the throw.
one thing i noticed it that the 5000 pound weights Rise in The Official One, Which means with the Official Model It would not be possible to make and have function Like it does in game
Next can you do the sleep room thing you wake up in at the start of portal 2? I want to see if the sliding and stuff is possible, also you can do the cryo bed from portal 1
And portal guns break conservation of energy. Even if they powered live portals to compensate for energy gained/lost, they are not connected to the portals in any way after creation so portals would have to fix energy conservation on their own. So no.

I am pretty sure you are the first one to ever show that animation of the aerial faith plates! Great content!

I just looked at the thumbnail and it's actually "DOES BE IS CAN POSSIBLE?"

They're literally one of the most common stunt man tools, they're air-powered pistons that use nitrogen to extend a platform, launching a stunt man.
