White noise sounds like steam hissing.
Pink noise sounds like rainfall.
Brown noise sounds like ocean waves.
I fall asleep every night listening to a combination of all three.
I’d say blue and violet are closer to sounding like hissing steam
White noise sounds like TV static to me.
@@a50ftfall6 tv static is white noise (roughly)
Blue noise sounded the most like rain to me
Put white, pink, and brown noise together to achieve the fabled _N E A P O L I T A N N O I S E_
😂
vero AHAHAHAH
😂 Tres Clever!!
I genuinely laughed out loud 😂
Violet noise woke up and chose violence
that's why it's called viole(n)t noise
sounds like a shower
Fr violet noise is disgusting
Spicy noise
It reminds me of cicadas, so yes, yes it did
Brown noise reminds me of sleeping in the car on long road trips, makes me feel so comfortable
That's exactly what it reminds me of, too
Green
They all sound like different stages in deep frying 😅
except you don't have to worry about getting splashed by the oil :>
agreed.🍳
I worked at Church Chicken 🍗 and this is accurate, deep frying does sound like that
You are right 😸🤌🏼
lol
Now I know what an audio engineer meant when he said to "make it more brown". >.
never heard anyone saying that
Most people probably wouldn't actually say that I think. I believe he was reaching into the depths of his knowledge to impress people. But that's my assumption. Maybe he just felt like that was the right way to communicate his idea.
@@stevensavoie856that, or they were a person with synesthesia.
@@NikolasAknorov and has zero clue that others don't have the same experience. Heh. "Remember that song? You know, the yellow one?"
For sure. Haven’t we all met someone like that? Totally clueless of the world outside of themselves, little to no self awareness, thinks their myopic pov makes them unique/quirky?
I meet lots of these types.
Personally, I prefer a nice, red, song.
You might be wondering why they're named after colors. The sound frequency profiles are named to be analogous to lightwave frequency profiles. When it comes to light, red light has more lower frequencies, while blue light has more higher frequencies. White light has a fairly even mix of all light frequencies.
Ohhh that makes a lot of sense! Pink is lower-skewed, so redder, and blue is higher-skewed, so blue, etc. Very cool!
The one exception is brown noise, named after *Robert Brown*
@@xenontesla122 I did not know that! I was totally under the assumption that it represented quiet low frequencies, which looks brownish in color terms. I now see on Wikipedia that Brown noise is in fact derived from Brownian motion. Neat!
@@xenontesla122Huh. Is that why some people call it *Brownian* noise?
So u mean to say that red sound would be more relaxing then brown noise? 😮
"there are several different types of noise"
my upstairs neighbor: *CORRECT*
😂
Brown noise is defenitly the best one. It sounds like several relaxing things, for example: rain, the ocean, a fan or the air conditioner.
Kind of sounds like a far-off waterfall
I always used to think of a sandstorm surrounding me, personally. Idk why that would be relaxing if you’re getting hit by the sand, but I imagined was like being in a bubble in the middle of said sandstorm.
I used to listen to airplane cabin hum and "celestial white noise" which is probably closer to brown than white.
Also it's interesting to see how many people mistype the word definitely. I often make the mistake of using double t and often see it written as 'definately'
It sounds like sitting in a quiet, driving car
nah my air conditioner is a violet noise lol it's very high pitched and noisy for no reason
First accurate description I've seen of noise colors in a long while, well done
Brownnoise sounded like rain. It was definitely relaxing
Hot brown rain
I swear pink noise sounds like rain outside when you're inside but brown noise sounds like heavy rain when you are also outside, it also sounds like waves crashing kind of
That ones the best
My go to in my white noise app to help me sleep--brown is perfect to drown out both external noise as well as the thoughts in my own head.
brown noise is relaxing....?
dang Southpark was right all along! 😆
“So you have synesthesia? Then what does violet sound like?”
Synesthetic friend: “KSHPSHKSKUHSJIHGYSKIHHSJ”
i thought it said synthetic friend for a second 😭😭
I was not prepared for violet
Violet is very violent!
ow
That one was my favorite.
Thanks im halfway through the video now im turning my volume down
There's a video I use to fall asleep to when it's too quiet, it's a mix of white, pink, and brown noise. I call it neopoletan noise.
What's it actually called tho?
@@pittiebaby The name of the video is "Smooth White, Pink, and Brown Noise (12 Hours)" !!
contrary to what I've heard, my pants remain pristine
Whatever you do, do NOT wear pants before watching the secret Vox Brown Note short!
Worst mistake of my life!
I was there when it happened.. when they came over wearing pants with brown noise...
it's.. it's too much for me to handle..
Brown noise isn't the same as the brown note
HAHAHA😂😂😂
what?
Black noise is when my family won't shut up.
Funniest comment ngl
Violet noise is also what pressurised gases produce when going through a small hole at high pressure! :)
E
@@EEEEEEEEcouldn't have said it better myself
actually the brown sound is not named after the color brown but after the Robert Brown, who documented the erratic motion for multiple types of inanimate particles in water. (wikipedia)
I was looking for this comment 👍🏼 To map it to a color it would be red noise as it is stronger in the longer wavelengths, similar to red light (also stated on Wikipedia)
I can’t express my love for brown noise enough, I have asd and listening to brown noise just shuts up my brain for some reason
I have ADHD and i totally agree, alot of the times my ADHD prevents me from sleeping. The second i start listening to brown noise while im having troble falling asleep it immediately helps! :)
@@georgespalding5969 Schranz, Techno and Minimal is my "brown noise" of music. I have ADD (without the H) and it works for me.
i love it too because it looks like poop, natural
@@georgespalding5969 I’m an autistic insomniac and every night I fall asleep to a ten hour video that blends all three. (Brown, white, and pink) It works so well!
@@synestia4005 Just because you don’t have hyperactivity doesn’t mean you can’t have ADHD- “ADD, or attention-deficit disorder, is an older term for the disorder we now call ADHD, or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. It was calledADD up until 1987, when the word “hyperactivity” was added.” I hear this all the time as someone with ADHD.
Loads of information in about 75 seconds....the very definition of concise. Much appreciated.
Brown noise is sooo nice.
Blue noise and violet noise hit my sensory issues and hurt my ears. Fun.
violet noise sounds nice
Blue does sound harsh, violet doesn't for some reason it reminds me of pink
@@silentxwxlf finally someone else who enjoys violet noise for some reason, it's pink and blue noise that hurt my ears more for some reason
Blue and Violet noise reminds me of taking a shower
White noise sounds most comfortable for me personally, I didn’t realise that people thought it was harsh
grey noise just like my old tv when no broadcast in midnight
The grey is my favorite
Rare video where both Video and Audio compression are struggling
love this comment
Violet noise should kinda be called violent noise. Cause it feels really bad to listen to
Pink noise is actually meant to sound like it's equal on the frequency spectrum to us. It's basically white noise that adjusts for the equal loudness curve (sensitivity of our ears to certain frequencies)
This is really interesting! I just recently found green noise, and I find it incredibly relaxing. For anyone who hasn’t heard of it, I would recommend it for sleep 😊🙌
What would the shape of green noise be?
@@TurboBronco239 That’s actually a good question, I don’t know. What shape would green be? 🤔
@@djvelocity that would depend on the frequency distribution like the other colours, so one would have to ask a sound person
@@TurboBronco239 You seem like the kind of person I would be friends with. Do you have anything online I can follow? I feel like I would learn a lot from you 🤔📚
@@djvelocity my name is the same on most social medias like Twitter and Instagram so, sure
I had to sit on my toilet in preparation for the brown note
I have a noisemaker that makes brown-noise like sound, and I've been sleeping with it my entire life. I don't know how people sleep without it.
The brown note is also very relaxing to your sphincter
Facts 🙏
Thank you for dropping this right before bed time in europe
Pretty cool. The color makes sense because it corresponds to how light and color perception work. Any brown object appears brown because, while it absorbs all frequencies of visible light, it absorbs the highest frequencies (blue) the strongest and the lower frequencies (red) the least. Pink does something similar (depending on which shade), except it doesn't absorb the higher frequencies quite so strongly (it reflects more light). This corresponds well with the definitions in sound, in terms of what they emit.
Ive always wanted to hear what sounds like!
Thanks for that, genuinely 👍
White noise: TV static
Pink noise: ocean
Brown noise: waterfall
Violet noise: sand
You would have to compensate white noise for flipped diffuse field to acutally make it adjusted to the humans gain. You might also compensate to Equal-loudness curve, to adjust it to the listening volume.
I really liked the gray! Brown was pretty good as well and Violet was just a problem.
Brown noise is amazing
everything brown is amazing 💩
I find it beautiful that in one way or another each of the colored noises leaves a sound that resembles water
- White noise: All frequencies, like white light.
- Brown noise: Brownian motion, not color-based.
- Pink noise: Blend of high/low freq, like pink color.
- Blue noise: Higher frequencies, like blue light.
- Violet noise: Strong high-frequency, like violet light.
- Gray noise: Neutral perception, like gray color.
Pink and brown are by FAR the best ones, couldn’t help a pleased smile when they came on :)
Grey noise is the sound of TV Snow. Change my mind
The first time I heard brown noise, it's like my brain shut down. Like every thought stopped instantly. It's wonderful
you mix all these to create just the right recipe for a great jumpscare sound!! 😀👍🏻
Love your insights on white noise! It's amazing how such sounds can improve sleep and focus. I've been exploring similar topics and it's fascinating how effective they are for relaxation and productivity. Keep up the great content! 🌿😊
I use the "Dark Noise" setting built into my iPhone, sounds like it is pretty much brown noise.
How anyone finds these relaxing is beyond my comprehension.
I like listening to deep purple noises.
I felt so stressed with all the other noises, but instantly calm when the brown noise started.
I found pink, blue and violet noise the most irritating.
Thankyou for the simple yet effective explanation.
I've heard brown noise in the toilet .
The higher ones sound like compressed air and the lower ones like the engine sound from inside an air plane.
Vox does a great job at educating niche topics in a concise and detailed way
Thing i love about your videos is the white noise in the background of your asmr idk why but its hard to relax with videos that have none
White and brown were truly relaxing
Wow, I never knew, what a great visual demonstration achieved in such brevity, thanks
- Hey this sounds like the ocean!
- Yeah, exactly ... let's call it brown
brown noise sounds like a distant waterfall, i love it. violet noise sounds like pain and chaos
Dude, you can't just hit my ears like that with 6 different noises in less than 5 seconds, my brain's melting
Great video thanks for explaining! Love brown noise for focusing!
Brown sounds like one of those fans we use to have when we were younger
brown is the only one that doesnt sound like its actuvely trying to harm you
Violet noise is the only noise that drowns out the constant tinnitus in my ears. It has an instant effect for me. So happy I stumbled across it.
Brown noise quiets my brain and is perfect for study, reading or sleep.
violet sounds the most relaxing to me
White color sounds like rain when you're indoors, while the purple one sounds like rain when you're outdoors
As soon as pink came on i couldnt help but smile
They’re all so good but brown noise really hits different 😄
i love violet noise, that ear scratching paradise
I was curious about this, so I looked for a purple noise video. And for the first time in years, I remember what it sounds like when my tinnitus isn't humming.
Thanks!
I was looking for information on this about 2 years ago. Thanks
I remember listening to a certain brown noise video once. It sounded so much like those air conditioners in hotels and it hit me with a massive wave of nostalgia, to which I immediately fell asleep.
Brown noice sounds like the distant sound of heavy rain which is like my favorite sound on the planet.
My favorite is green noise paired with rain sound. Empties the head, calms you down, let's you fall asleep.
Brown noise is like riding in the car with the window down … love it
Brown noise just brought back a memory of that one South Park episode
Brown noise has been a lifesaver for me. My family is incredibly loud and it's the only noise that drowns it out for me.
Oddly the gray noise reminds me of the old static from a TV with a bad signal.
Mmmmm vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream those be hittin different
White: sand
Pink: rain
Brown: airplane
Blue: shower
Gray: tv static
Violet: power washer
Gray noise would make a killer guitar tone
I’m glad I came across this video. I never understood what was the deal with these colors and noises
Brown noise make me feel heavy. Like you feel heavy during a meditation. So interesting
Blue sounds like a shower. But like that hot shower in the super early hours of a cold morning before you leave to go camping or to catch a plane for a holiday.
Brown noise sounds like a cozy nap by the beach.
Thank you for going pink to brown and not the other way around.

Pink sounds like rain. Brown sounds like a heavy storm
That was interesting, thank you for the explanation!
Just got a fan with pink noise. Fascinating.
Honestly I get why pink, white and brow noise are common. The other 3 are just straight up painful to listen with earphones
Everytime brown noise started, I needed to change my underwear
Violet noise is relaxing to my ears
Brown noise sounds like when you're driving back home, everyone is tired and it’s just the sound of the car.
Brown gotta be my favorite, I listen to that stuff to sleep some nights when stressed
i find white noise the most relaxing :D
Brown noise is almost relaxing. Is there something closer to the rumbling of thunder?
Brown noise sounds like terror the more I listen to it.
Brown noise sounds to me like wind blowing through a forest in autumn. It's dim, the sun is hidden by a thick blanket of clouds. The isolation is comforting.
