Seeing dislikes is a big part of trying to find good tutorials. Not being able to see dislikes is a big motivation to use other platforms for quickly learning something.

This has nothing to do with "content creators getting triggered". They made this decision because UA-cam wants to make this platform more appealing and comfortable for corporations who post videos that get disliked to oblivion, which gives them a bad image to the public.

The amount of damage this will cause is immesurable. Now there is no real indication if a video is spreading misinformation or is outdated. It'll be much harder to navigate tutorials, I know for a fact that it would've made my student life much harder if it happened back then.
But what's worse is scams. Can you imagine how many more scams people will fall for just because they no longer can see a big-ass dislike bar? And the only response to this criticism UA-cam gave on Twitter can be summarized as "Crime is illegal, it cannot be done".
Robbers can't legally steal your money, just say no.
I just hate how EVERY SINGLE SITE with a large community just does not listen to their users! Discord adds NFTs and crypto linking, UA-cam removes dislikes, while the community tries hard to shout the people at the companies just won't fucking listen.
One more thing I hate about UA-cam is how, (as of now when the dislike button is shown), nothing else has a functional dislike button. Comments don't, community posts don't, Shorts don't

Its more "respectful" for the viewer to be able to show their discontent to the "creator".
This is not for little guys this is for big tech.
It's for the mainstream media. Same with the algorithm change that puts them right at the top of every fucking search now. Nearly all of them disable likes and comments because they always get shit on. If a channel is not owned by an individual (e.g channels run by corporations or government entities), I think it should be impossible to disable comments and likes. It's done entirely because they don't like criticism and not because it affects the shitty journalists' mental health.
On an aside I really hate how UA-cam now instantly removes comments that use certain words or phrases. I think it's an absolutely scummy practice. I put all this effort into writing a comment only for it to get instantly deleted and they don't even let me know. I have to refresh the page to check that it's still there. I hate this shitty platform. In 2016 it was awesome. Now you can't search for anything properly, can't rely on your subscription feed, and people have to self censor or they get deplatformed. It just fucking sucks.
Yeah I told a new person to stop mentioning to subscribe so much and do the content to see less dislikes and he followed on my statement. Nowadays he's doing much better as a content creator because of that.

With the ability for comments to be removed, and no dislike count, people will be forced to trust UA-cam to prioritize videos with the correct information on any given thing. And we all know what flavor of information that they prioritize.

Censorship is so homosexual. Disabling people's voices doesn't mean people will suddenly like the thing they want to leave a dislike and rude comment on. They'll just switch platform so that they can watch what they want and say what they want. Odysee is really great and besides the buffering (especially on livestreams) it works almost flawlessly. It just needs a bit of a monetary incentive for more people to go over there. If the userbase was large enough, I'm sure there are companies who will be willing to sponsor creators over there.

I really don't like modern social media's "Everything is good and happy" attitude, the feedback from people who consume what you make is essential, even if it is just a simple number it lets you know when you messed up big time.
If you can't handle internet aggression, maybe you should consider avoiding it.
The like/dislike bar is a very useful feature to help you in avoiding of wasting your time. This is especially true when it comes to troubleshooting tutorials, if the like/dislike ratio is way out of whack on a video, there's a 95% chance that you'll be wasting your time if you attempt to follow the tutorial

Instead of people judging a video based on likes/dislikes they’ll be judging it based on likes/views.
It’ll cause more problems because people will assume the low amount of likes to the viewcount is because people disliked the video. Not that they didn’t bother hitting like or dislike.

One of the things that people really disliked (no pun intended) was when YT removed the 5 star ratings that you could see BEFORE you clicked on the video. That's how you knew if the video/creator was worth watching/supporting. Getting rid of the dislikes is just another form of censoring public opinion. Sad that this platform is not even a shadow of what it used to be. You are one of the very few channels worth watching.

I've seen many instances of critical comments with a few likes appearing below the sea of comments that get no attention.

Very often when I'm trying to find a tutorial on how to do something, I search on youtube for it. If the video I just clicked on has a massive amount of dislikes, then I know the video is a fat shart and I'm wasting my time. Many times I've clicked on a tutorial for a math problem or coding example, saw that the video had mostly dislikes, watched it anyway and found the dislikes were justified because of the content being either confusing or just plain wrong. I've probably saved a ton of time just by leaving disliked videos immediately and going to a better liked video for an explanation or tutorial.
Meh i still think the comment section will give you a little more details of why there's so many dislikes

For example, this video at this moment have 10910 / 535 count.
I view content on UA-cam as a market of ideas, where time is the currency. Through this lens, the like/dislike ratio acts as rating system. Much in the way that I would not buy a 1/10 rated product, I'm not going to watch a video with majority dislikes. Because I value my time. While judging content based on it's like/dislike ratio isn't perfect. It's typically a valid assumption.
The scammers, manipulators, and drama channels will thank UA-cam for this.
The actual channels that experience harassment won't feel a dent or difference since harassment exists on Twitter and Tumblr and they never had dislikes to begin with.

Because these tech illiterate boomers would be regulating things they have a woefully inadequate understanding of, Their complete and total incompetence is rather terrifying given the amount of power they have over the way the entire industry works. I think we must tread very, very carefully when it comes to regulating big tech, until we have representatives that can demonstrate a high level of competency with computers, phones, internet, and just tech in general
@@whirlwind872 I would agree with you on the tech part, but a lot of these companies act in an extremely uncompetitive way, using their power and budgets to stamp out any new businesses that do not toe the big tech line. This is more about using existing legislation to try to minimise the amount of power / control the big tech companies have by enabling new companies to compete with the big boys.
But it will never happen. Google / Facebook / etc. is essentially an extension of the NSA, and the government isn't going to give up an asset like that any time soon.

I am *very* against this!
The reasoning behind the likes to dislike ratio is usually always very reasonable. I see a video with x amount of dislikes and think, oh it's probably because of x y z, and that's nice to be aware of.
Finding information and knowing the legitimacy of the content is crucial. I've seen tutorials with a lot of dislikes, and in that case, I would know it's either a lot of false information or bad editing. I am prepared to learn just a slight bit, and I'm prepared for what to expect.
As for the creator itself, it helps push out content that the subscribers, the people like! The ratio will tell if the video was good or not (ofc), and the creator, after uploaded x amount of videos will (hopefully) know what is good, and what is bad. Yeah sure it kind of hurts to have dislikes, but that's not the point. The next time I upload a video, I know what to look out for!
Creators that disable the ratio, I will automatically assume it's bad information given, and the creator is trying to hide it for his own image. Maybe that can be seen as "the viewers bullying the creator" ? But all in all, the creator learns how to become a liked person, a liked channel, it's actually very nice to have the ratio showing, and having it as it is right now.....
Imagine all websites you often visit that you can interact with.. Now imagine if all of them had a like / dislike ratio. Wouldn't that be awesome? Now you can easily know what to expect, and the creator will know, what to do to be liked.
Overall, I shouldn't rant about this, UA-cam is just a platform taking over the TV section. Hopefully it can start to slowly die out soon, being replaced by something else. It has its flaws, some agree and some do not.

I'm in the same boat with not giving the benefit of the doubt to people with like/dislike disabled. I do the same thing for anything with the comments disabled.
It is less important for things I watch for entertainment, or am already knowledgeable about, but it is important for things I am trying to learn.

It's about creating manufactured consent. This way corporations can put out what ever BS they want and they don't have to worry about it that dislike to like ratio.

Have these UA-cam "engineers" never actually thought about this? They're too focused on making the platform more appealing to people that can't take criticism that they're overlooking the entire concept of video rating. If we don't have any dislike count than we can't tell if people dislike the video or forgot to like it, they already did this with comments, and that ended up being quite confusing. Besides, the whole reason UA-cam is doing this is basically just to keep crybaby creators happy with themselves so they don't quit the platform, if people can see their own dislikes, then there's no point to making the dislike count invisible to other people.
They don't want to make it more appealing to content creators, that's their bullshit PR explanation, in reality they just want to make it more appealing for corporations and news outlets that get a majority of dislikes and thus present a bad image in the platform.

great vid, I will reluctantly subscribe, and promise not to hit the dislike button. :) I have been making YT videos for almost 11 years, and seen this whole thing go down from the beginning. The wild West days on YT are gone.... and sometimes for the better, but more often not.
I learned LONG ago not to disable the likes, nor the comments, as people want to be able to express themselves. After all, we are putting ourselves out to the world. We need feedback to know if we are full of it.
But since the mainstream media is now so hated, I feel this move is to protect them for the most part. And it will not go down well, folks will just bombard the comments with "DISLIKE" and that will be even worse

Another thing someone said years ago when UA-cam was talking about dislikes, this probably won't work if the person still has comments on their videos. Basically, instead of disliking the video, people can just leave comments saying they dislike it.

You can hide the bar at the top of Firefox's window by going to "Customize" (in the menu) > Title bar (or something like that, I don't use Firefox anymore).

Whoever decides this was a good idea, needs to get fired, along with the many other people who make the same worthless choices that ruin UA-cam for everyone, like removing trusted reporters. I mean, people Actually use the dislike button, it's not even like it gets abused, people truthfully press the dislike button because they dislike the video or the content inside it....
Well ok, there may be some that do press the dislike button, by mistake, or because they can, but they are not that many, i think....
Removing the dislike button, though essentially also removes the usefulness of the like button, cause you can't know if the video is generally liked, you could have 5 or a million likes and the message that gives a user is just that a lot of people clicked the like button (to save the video maybe), but does not tell how many actually liked it compared to the total amount that viewed it and disliked it.
Only the channel owner can, but what is the use of that for the viewer?
Maybe some channel owners may use it to know if people don't like the video (except if they can't see the dislikes either), which they can also from the comments, but most shitty uploaders, scammers, 'famous' people, news outlets, who don't actually care about people's thoughts about the video and UA-cam's platform except for having something to reach more audience, will just ignore the dislike bar and keep churning out stuff that people dislike without getting the message, probably won't even read the comments.
Worse still, if there is no dislike amount and no comments stating they dislike the video and why, that will just cause uploaders to look at the likes and think, ooh, i'm doing a good job, i should push out even more and worse video's, cause look how many liked my video....
People will just their dislikes in the comments, the comments will get blocked. I mean, if a uploader wanted to block both dislike and comments, they already had the ability to do so, which gave the viewer a message something odd was going on... why enforce this ass backwards policy on Everyone, just leave things be and fix stuff like bringing back trusted reporting .....
I'll tell you already, comments are are likely going to get blocked by default in the future too, for snowflakes who can't handle critique, or whatever other reason given, UA-cam is no longer a community video platform, for a long time probably, it's just there for people to endlessly consume content, watch endless ads, maybe push out political stuff or whatever to change people's thoughts/brainwash, attract news outlets, like television.....
UA-cam is going so far downhill, it is time to switch away from UA-cam...

experienced something rly strange. just came home from a friends place who lives a few km away from me. since yesterday not a single yt-video has an dislike count i only see "don't like" beside the thumb-down but at my friends place there are still dislike counts beside every single video. very very fishy.

*Better way to get genuine dislikes-* prompt users to comment when they dislike. It makes disliker think exactly why they are disliking while also providing creators with valid critisism, hopefully.
It can also help with misclicks, bot dislike attacks, and many other things.

It's surely not because of the millions dislikes under a trailer video of some big company, like Activision with their new regular lit and epic CoD game or something. I'm sure they value the opinion of the people and dont mind the ruined marketing campaign.
