I started decluttering myself, unintentionally, and I’ve noticed how much lighter I feel. My “why” was, honestly, to not be on the phone so much and use my time wisely. From that, I loved the feeling of being able to find things when I needed them, instead of wasting time looking for things. It’s a cleansing ritual that I’ve been practicing and excited to do this challenge together with you!
I’m honestly shocked that this channel doesn’t have at least one million subscribers. The aesthetic, message and editing of all her videos are incredible.
My why is to be a better mom & wife and be able to actually enjoy time with my boys and husband, rather than spending all my time cleaning and still feeling like the house is never clean. A clottered house makes me feel so stressed and overwhelmed all the time. Decluttering has been the most incredible experience seeing not just how much easier it is to clean, but how much less stressed I feel because of it. And all the time I've gained back, and I'm not even done yet!
I always set aside time in December and January to go through all my possessions and declutter. I take one shelf, drawer or cupboard at a time, so it never feels overwhelming, and it means I start the new year with the space feeling much lighter. I save any reusable bags that I'm given to put my donations in - charity/thrift shops usually love to have bags they can offer to customers, and I find it easier to carry a bag of donations than a large cardboard box!
I really like that this is spaced out giving a week at a time for each room approximately. I put pressure on myself and think I've got to do whole rooms in a day 😩 which only makes me feel more stressed.
I never thought of a “mental “ decluttering. Last year I vastly eliminated my friend groups. Starting off this year I’ve been feeling little lonely but I know that those friendships weren’t serving me. I will try to be mindful what people I’ll bring into my life.
Please do not stop making these videos. Right now I work in a place where I have to be up at 2am, work in the cold and the heat, around not the best of people at times. It’s a very rough job for me and emotionally draining. I watch one of your videos every morning. It grounds me and reminds me who I am, what is important, and what I am working towards. ♥️
I use those reusable grocery store bags to wrap Christmas gifts for family, or I use the nice paper bags for Christmas or birthday gifts for friends with some newspaper as the stuffing. ☺️
Hey Sophie! Ur videos are really great As william arthur ward said "Feeling gratitude and not expressing is like wrapping a present and not giving it." So I want to take a moment and show gratitude towards you because you have changed my life in such a way that I am living a very peaceful life with so many drastic changes in my life. So thank you so much.. Your video are such therapeutic and soothing to soul. I'll always will be waiting for your new video to be posted also must say you are blessed with beautiful voice and soul which can connect others instantly. To add on your channel is the bestest channel I could ever find in the whole youtube platform. I AM SO OBSESSED WITH YOUR VIDEOS.😍
Loved your breakdown of the decluttering process and how beautifully you managed to film it. Great job with your channel! Here’s to a peaceful start to a new year… ❤️🤗
I really really like your videos and have inspired me to do so much better! You're serving not just minimalist point of views but wisdom as well! Thank you Sophie for your videos! With aloha here in Maui, Pauline ❤
Sophie your Kitchen looks too too too pretty and clean and you always brighten up my day with your videos you are my inspiration and I will support you so so much🥺🥺✨💗
I'm excited we are going to get rid of 2 larger furniture pieces in our living room. It feels up walking space & a huge view in our front picture window. Let's in more light & better views of the outdoor wildlife. So excited for spring!
I love this video, Sophie. Very helpful, particularly the last bit about mental clutter. I've been decluttering for a while now but have found that I go back out and splurge again, filling those spaces again. So, this time around, I've decluttered and kept aside things I want to sell/donate, left them as is in boxes in plain view, decided I will do the internal work first and figure out why I subconsciously subscribe to "retail therapy" and then, once that is done, actually go ahead with the declutter. It is quite a process! And I'm very grateful for your videos. :)
Thank you so much for this amazing video, it took a while for me to realize how important your videos and I learned a lot ot things from this, especially decluttering part of my life. It is such a great value you are sharing to everyone thru this video. God bless you Sophie
I love that you plan decluttering which I think should be done most of the time rather than mindlessly doing things. I feel it makes us think more through what we are doing. Very well done.
Thank you for this idea. I’m pretty good at decluttering, but there are some rooms that overwhelm me. I’ve now broken those rooms into small “bite size” pieces. I have a running list on my tasks app so whenever I have a few minutes, I tackle one of them. Great idea. Thank you! 🙏 ❤🙏
Your videos are such an inspiration for me! I've implemented your tips and I feel so much more better about my home which has done wonders for my mental health. Thank you!
Great video! I have moved a few times over the last few years. My first move I rented the biggest uhaul I could get. My last move I rented one up from the smallest! I continue to declutter and not bring a bunch of new stuff in. I now live small and comfortable! Plus I would like to move overseas in the next year or two. Thank you for a great video!
Thank you 🤗 I’ve been watching your channel for awhile now and you helped me too get organized and understand my journey to balance my life ❤. Life is precious and we only live it once, so enjoy it 🧞♀️
I saw this video when it came but did not feel like watching it. Strangely, i have a strong calling to clear up the clutter in my room, and my life. And i remember this. The best guiding torch, exactly what I am looking for. Thank you so much.
I just want to say thank you for your videos ⭐️ they’re are giving calmness, coziness, inspiration and shift mindset how to live and enjoy this life 🤩❤ I get such a powerful and positive energy throughout your videos 👍🏻
I've done a few declutter challenges similar to this and I'm always so excited when mental decluttering is included! It's great to freshen up your environment, but many challenges often forget that mental and physical clutter go hand in hand. One thing I really need to tackle is my paperwork. I decluttered and organized it last week, but I now need to implement my paperless system to free up the remaining paperwork. I always put it off, but it feels so much better right after I finish. Plus, it will free up an entire shelf in my office closet. Definitely going to journal through the process so that I can look forward to keeping it this way and stop procrastinating.
I'm actually in the process of decluttering right now and I feel like it's a never ending process. What I have realized is that I am a person who has multiple interest or hobbies. For instance, I make videos whenever I am free and I have all these different equipment stored. On another hand I also like learning new recipes and I have a tendency to print recipes online and papers piled up. I have a tendency to buy a new kitchenware to help enhance my skill in cooking. I also like reading, I have a tendency to buy books sometimes and store them in a place and the list goes on. So this has been a problem for me because I love learning new things but my personal interest is conflicting with my goal on being minimalist. I simply just don't want too many things stored in the house but I need these tools to help me grow and learn new things.
Thank u so much for this video Sophie. I have always been a tidy and minimalist person, but I’m planning to move with my boyfriend to another country next year. This is a great step in reducing my stuff and prepare to move.
You know Sophie you have been a big source of inspiration in making my life better, getting out of my depression & procrastination. Your vlogs have helped me immensely to be in love with aimple pleasures of life. decluttering my house my mind & heart of all things unnecessary. If Ever i get a chance to meet you, you'll get the biggest hug ever.bless you ❤
Thank you Sophie, your video is a much needed reminder for me! After listening to your advices, I am able to take better care of myself, give myself security and inner peace, not just validations from others.
I learnt so much from you through this video. Thank you for inspiring me. I consider myself an organised person, but feel I have way too many possessions and often feel overwhelmed when I want to do a major declutter. It's hard for me to say goodbye to things. Now that it's Christmastime, with all my decor, my house feels even more cluttered. I think I really want to try a 10-minute everyday routine.
This is great advice!! I started doing this yesterday with my makeup and nail polishes, felt great!! I will keep going because I want a more minimalistic space/life and I love how you break it down to twn minutes each time, much more manageable vs feeling overwhelmed!!❤❤️❤️🙏
I like the way you have allotted one zone every week and ten minutes everyday. This way we can go in-depth analysing and decluttering, which might otherwise seem strenuous and overwhelming! Thank you for the video❤
This was amazing thank you. I keep saying I’m going to declutter but I don’t have a plan. I love this room by room and time plan. The video was also relaxing and relatable. Thank you!
10 min a day. Start with a decluttering plan 1- The Why, 2. The problem., 3. Make a plan.. 4. Good music, Audible books, 5. Area of house a week. 6. System that works for you. Throw, Donate, Keep (What do you commonly use), Sell, Maybe; 7. Fridge staples Shopping list, 8. Let go of what you no longer need., clean photos Be more intentional., 9. What thoughts or emotions do I hold onto? 10. Journal
Love this video Sophie you have encouraged me to get my house in order for Xmas even though theirs not much time now to do it my motivation has been low as my mood has been low thank you
thank you for this video. it was an interesting journey. I think I always find some solace and hope in your films. your idea is very good, I think that after renovating my apartment I will try this method of tidying up the house
I started decluttering in 2019 and the more I did it the more I realized how much I owned was superfluous. Recently, I've been focusing on decluttering digital content. I removed all social medial from my phone and even took Safari off of my home screen. I also started going on daily walks. By doing so it has really limited how much time I spend watching television and being on my phone.
We used to "menu" shop. Now we sale shop. & Cook from our pantry stock. Expiration doesnt apply to most sealed unperish'd items & best preserved. Mahalo
Loved the message Sophie, let me take up this challenge and start working on clearing some headspace 😊❤ I liked the thought when you said that we should learn while discarding 🎉
I just decluttered my entire apartment to get ready for a fresh start in the new year! it truly is the best feeling. 10 minutes is so doable, but I took a different approach this time!
So liberating recently as I was burning all my old private student loan statements, letters, etc. in a nice warm fireplace while visiting relatives. All the BS documents that go back to my early 20's and bring back PTSD just looking at them. I figured, well my account info and SS# are all over these papers, who wants to have a fire??

I love this! I get overwhelmed easily, with working full time, and living with three other people, so doing a bit at a time is super helpful.
