People from Nevada and the states around it tend to pronounce it "neh-VAD-uh" with a short "a" sound rather than an "ah" sound. Great video though. New Mexico is actually quite cold most of the time. Perfect pronunciation of Oregon by the way.
@@timewarpdrive77 Agreed. Anyone who argues "ne-VOD-uh" must be the correct pronunciation because "that's how it's said in the original Spanish" needs to also 'correct' their pronunciation of Florida, Colorado, California, Montaña, Tejas and any other state named by the Spaniards. XD

Just learned Virginia and West Virginia are 2 different states! Used to think West Virginia in the song"Country road" was western part of Virginia. Funny I came to learn the pronunciation and ended up learning geography as well!
Are you aware of the Civil War? Originally, West Virginia was part of Virginia. When Virginia seceded from the Union in 1861, the mountaineers in the West were not happy. They met in Wheeling, declared that they were the legitimate government of Virignia, and passed a resolution dividing the state in two, the State of Virginia and the State of West Virginia. Congress consented to the division. After the Civil War was over, the State of Virginia objected to the division, but the United States Supreme Court ruled otherwise. Okay, said Virginia, but then West Virginia needs to pay its share of the public debt as it existed in 1861. That litigation was not resolved until 1915. West Virginia finally paid the debt off in 1939. All this might explain why West Virginia is one of the poorest regions in the country.
@@markrich7693 Once named? It still is. Virginia is a reference to Virgin Queen, a name given to Queen Elizabeth I. Whether she actually was or not, we do not know.

At least this guy didn’t say O-ree-gawn. Usually done by those who mispronounce Colorado with “raw” and Nevada with “vaw”. But locals say Or-gun. Very little to no middle syllable by the locals.
You got Nevada dead wrong. The state even has the correct pronunciation on their website. VAD rhymes with BAD, not God or odd. In fact the Nuhvodda pronunciation is actually offensive to all us old sagebrushers.
I actually kind of enjoy NevODDan as a demonym for all the Cali oddballs who've moved out this way in recent years. Real Nevadans are battle born, which makes NevODDans "boddle" born. XD
Hi Cristina. Thanks for commenting & sharing with us. Maine is a gorgeous state, especially during the fall when the leaves change color. I did some hiking there and it was incredible. 😊
II just looked up how to pronounce Nevada. I got very quick reply that pronounced it the way Nevadans do. This lesson of pronouncing the 50 states came up directly afterwards. I watched it just for fun but you pronounced Nevada the other way. when I lived there I was told Ne-vad(like bad but with a v)-da, not Ne-vah-da Which is correct? Just wondering. Thanks
What the locals say (vad, not vod) is correct. Anyone who tells you it's 'vod' because "it was originally Spanish tho" is hypocritical and won't apply the same logic to all the _other_ states named by the Spaniards whose current residents 'mispronounce' them all the time. Trust the locals.

I’m from Peru and I’ve lived in NJ and NY. Winter is terrible in the North, that’s what I moved to Houston,TX. Some day We would to go to Colorado, they say they have beautiful mountains.
I love your classes. ❤❤
That's great! Thanks so much. 😊
At least this guy didn’t say O-ree-gawn. Usually done by those who mispronounce Colorado with “raw” and Nevada with “vaw”.
But locals say Or-gun. Very little to no middle syllable by the locals.
Pronounce Hawaii the right way everyone. It’s “ha why ee” not “ha why.” Separate the ee from the why. Or say “ha vai ee”
XD
Nice helpful video

Wow...you've been all over the US. And completely agree. Alaska is an amazing state. 😊
Correction on RI - one of the counties in Rhode Island is an island that is connected by a bridge.
I used to read Illinois as ilin-wa. Thanks man 😁
You bet! Glad you enjoyed the lesson. 👍
Nice 🎉
Glad you enjoyed the lesson. Thanks for your comment. 😊
Teacher West, I think you should included their state symbols too!
