- You want to go ICE FISHING but you have never gone and you do not know what you will need, then this video is perfect for your education on ICE FISHING for early season BROOK TROUT. One of the feistiest fish under ice. They are highly active in the post turnover oxygen rich waters covered by a thin layer of ice.
As soon as you have 4 inches of ice you are ready to walk on without much concern of falling through. 2 inches of clear black ice will support most people under 200 pounds, but if you want to be on the safe side waiting for at least 3 inches is a better bet.
Make sure you dress warm and in layers. Try not to work up a sweat or you will end up getting chilled as soon as you stop moving around.
You will need an ice auger or hatchet to chop through the ice. Next a scoop to get the chips out of the hole. Then having a simple jig and line with some bait will put you in business. It really can be that simple.
Then once you know you are an ice fisherman then you should invest in SONAR, TENTS, CAMERAS, RODS, JAW JACKERS....
The list goes on.
But it starts easy and on the cheap side as long as you can get through the ice. Usually fish the week edges and shallower shoals to find feeding fish. These are the productive areas early in the year.
I hope you enjoy the video. It is quite long but comprehensive with tips throughout.
Best of luck out there this ice season.
Thanks for watching.

What an awesome first ice experience! I am so glad that BC stocks some of its lakes with Brook Trout - they are so beautiful and taste amazing!
You are correct there! They sure are a great fish!
really educational at 5:20, and totally makes sense, thanks
Thanks for watching.
Well great to see you again great video and fish luv them brook tout
Thanks for watching.
@@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures UBET Glad your back
15:20 - That brookie looks delicious. Another tasty looking one at 23:30. All they need is dressing up in tin foil and some lemon and salt and pepper.
Great video of the fish down the hole.
Where is this? I missed it if you told us.
Speaking of ice safety, I would never venture out on a frozen lake without ice picks or claws. If you go through the ice you can use those to pull yourself out of the water. They are far more effective than your fingernails.
Last time I ice fished was on Lake of the Woods near Hope. Must go again.
Really enjoyed this video. I'll shut up now.
Haha thanks for watching. Yeah you are correct it is best to have some sort of sharp spike to pull yourself out. Due to the small size of the lake and the number of people who Atchison the videos I didn't name this lake.
First outing tommorow! Nice video doc
Excellent, have fun.
it would be nice if I had time to catch the early ice time.
thanks for another good video
Yeah its a balance
How I wish we have those big size of stock brooke trout here in Ottawa! Great video 👏.
You do in Ontario. They have big stocked brookies in the province. These are not in a city.
Phenominal! Time for me to move? We are having a sunshine break here in SoDak/USA until next week when we will be back out on the ice. Great vid's, thanks Doc!
Thanks for watching from South Dakota! Would love to head out that way some day for Perch!
@@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures We have some ginormous pothole perch fisheries here. I've watched videos of folks pulling huge perch out. It hasn't been my experience yet. I do hope you do make the opportunity someday.
@@zubertish yes I've seen those same videos. But if you're telling me this maybe those guys have Intel on certain number of limited good locations.
@@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures correct. Intel that I do not have access to, unfortunately. They do scout reports on various websites but I do not have the time for all that research.
Yeah I read a lot of stuff. Takes time to figure things out. Some people just want it the easy way. It all takes time. Good luck out there.
Canada 🇨🇦 is very good fishing spot 😊
Oh ya that is right!
That was, and is a Great Lake for brookies.. makes me want to go so bad.
Certainly! Have fun.
Great video.
I've been looking for black tungsten jigs without success. Can you tell me where I can buy some
Yes check out www.circletackle.com
Hi doctor, I have been to this lake in summer, but never in winter. How’s the road condition there during winter? I drive a small 2wheel drive car with winter tire.
Sorry I have a 4x4 and road conditions are variable at best. I was doing a little slipping and sliding. It's pretty much packed ice.
Thanks for the report, I'll go our to check the E*****a lake now :) Newer been there though )))
Ok, best of luck.

What's that?
Greedy don’t share names for new bees least some of the others youtube locals do
It's not greedy to not broadcast the name of a small lake on the internet that is easily accessible and listed on the BC stocking list. All of this information is public and with a little research anyone can find lakes to go fishing. It isn't rocket science. So you call me greedy, but I think it is selective in nature to avoid a mad rush to one particular spot. I've fished 10 different lakes this year already and 4 of them I caught nothing. I'm not sure why it is up to me to do your leg work and inform you of the Hotspot. That's quite an entitled stance. That is not the point of my channel and videos. I help people figure it out from the ground up.
Where abouts are you fishing at ? Looks like a fantastic brookie hole !
British Columbia. Yeah lots of great brookie lakes.
@@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures I'm in BC aswell is why I'm asking. Looks like a good lake to check out for brooks!
@@EXILE_OUTDOORS yeah for sure! Check out gofishbc.com for the stocking information of lakes near you!
