The 80s lasted until about '93. But yeah the ONLY inaccurate thing I can think of is when they cussed in front of their parents. I didn't know anyone who was brave enough to do that. Even at my current age, I still won't cuss in front of my mom. 😂

Parents weren't as helicopter in the 80s as they are now. You could have all kinds of adventures in the woods or in the basement/playroom and parents had no idea. Innocent stuff any way. As a former D&D playing, punk-rock-listening nerdy kid who grew up in the Midwest in the early 80s (I would have been 11 during this timeline), this show spoke to me on a pretty singular level. My friends were EXACTLY like this (well, except for the supernatural bits). 😄
I was 17 or 18 when this story takes place, but had already been a big Tolkien nerd for a few years by then. So, as much as I'd already liked the younger group of friends, i REALLY liked them when they were arguing in the police station about whether Mirkwood was from Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit. 👏😄

I think Hopper was looking at a broken wooden box or crate. He saw the bullets, the dog's attention was on the shed, and the broken crate looked like there had been a struggle in the shed. Because once he came out of the shed... He was convinced something had happened to Will and it wasn't a matter of a kid golfing off. Also.... He noticed the dent made in the paneling inside the house at the back door... Which I think Hopper was thinking that the door had been flung open because Will was running from something...

I work at one end of Cornwallis Road, just a few miles from "Mirkwood," aka the intersection of Cornwallis and Kerley Roads. No idea if there are any demogorgons lurking in Duke Forest, but I wouldn't be surprised if my car insurance carries an extra premium just in case there are.

In the midwest, you drain your pool a long time before November hits. Keeping it heated enough to use would cost you a fortune. It's *cold* in the northern midwest in November! But I'm guessing the writers who weren't from the south like the Duffer Brothers were probably from southern California, so nobody blinked an eye at the whole "teenage pool party in late November in Indiana" idea.
