This could do 40mph. Also there was two engines in the tank. The small one is called a g.u.e which stands for generator unit engine which would supply all electrical power from a 4 cylinder perkins diesel. The track tensioner is called htt hydraulic track tensioner. The side skirts are for general running they are replaced with armour sides which also directed the exhaust gases to the rear of the tank from the side so it would be difficult to identify it in the dark. The smoke generator would be operated only for a few seconds at a time to make a screen between the tank and the enemy to allow the tank to make a quick get away. When the tank rotates on the spot it's called a neutral turn.

To see 35 of these together in one hanger was a site to see all in sand balast colour. To replace the track costs £34,000. The army paid £2.5m each tank!

Had mine about 18 months only had two problems 1st when I tried to run it up a shale mound got a small rock stuck between the track and drive sprocket had to take the track off to clear that 2nd lost the cap and securing screw for a drive sprocket fortunately I found them and would suggest putting a spot of locktite on the screws other than that it's a Bobby dazzler

Steel for the tracks, gearbox, drive and idler wheels will make the tank more reliable.
Thanks for this review I am considering getting one but I’m now definitely getting one. One question, will the tank still respond to controls if you were to buy the upgraded transmitter for it so you can move the gun up and down more realistically
Trust me, you want the Steel Gears and Add Lithium Grease! This Tank is Heavy with Steel Gears and Drive, Road Wheels and Idlers. Get a Higher Cap. Lithium Battery. Actually I prefer a Lipo. The 3500mah does a good job. 1800 just don't cut it because of the Weight. Yes I own one. If you have little patience for maintenence, try one of the lesser ones as the M-41 Bulldog or M26 Pershing. My next is the Metal Tracked, Steel Geared T-34-85. Try Baby Oil for the Smoke Unit. Seems to work well so far.

Hello, I just received this very tank for Christmas, however mine has the plastic tracks and the green camo scheme, the tank is fine and seems to run rather well, but, there is no switch to turn the gun on in the little turret hatch, were yours is located, so the gun does not in fact work, there is a hole were the button should be, and an ON and OFF engraving on each side, I'm guessing it is a factory default, however I am not sure, please could you try to explain what has happened here. and perhaps release a video? :) Anyway thanks a bunch, great review!
Is it the BB firing tank?
Those 'binoculars' are smoke dischargers.
The smoke generator sprayed diesel directly into the exhaust and produced a white screen enabling the tank to make a quick get away.

The challenger 2 still remains to this day the best defended tank in the world EVER and has never been destroyed in combat. Like to see the Americans do that
there are fewer challys than there are abrams, so yeah they are less likely to be destroyed in combat
Leo Lopez no the armour is just better, the M1A2 Abrams may have all this fancy reactive armour but not even the manufacturers in the factory over here in England know what the armour on the Challenger 2 is made of, they just build the tank out of it

I am planning to buy two of the modern MBT's, which ones do you recommend? I'm torn between m1a1 Abrams/Challenger 2 and T90/ZTZ99. (I basically want to make a set of one nato and one eastern block tank)
Inhave got 3 of them tanks from HL. A leopard , Sherman and a German Panzer 4... the leopard BB system went kaput for no reason, i tried to repair it but everything inside was so filmsy. The plastic are brittle, soldering jobs are sloppy, red wire are interconneting to each other by soldering making it impossibe to replace some motors without unsoldering joints... i build drones and i had never done sunch sloppy wiring in all by RC build. I retired 2 tanks and left the sherman on display as i re-did the aweful paint job. My advice... you get what u paid for. If you can, save up for a Tamiya. Forget about Taigen or Mato too... gets a Tamiya 1/16 or a Armortek 1/5.
Add about 2 to 3 Drops of RWS or equivalent Pure Silicone Oil for Airsoft or Pneumatic Pellet Rifles. Lightly trigger the system with the Tank Vertical, right as the mechanism begins to Cycle or fire, drop 2 to 3 Drops of the Silicone Oil down the Barrel. Lubs the O Ring Seals. Only 2 to 3 drops! Cycle 2 or 3 times. I have 4 HL Tanks and yet to replace a Gun yet or it could be just Luck.
Good video…. But I’m still very new to RC Tanks, and on my Heng Long Abrams tank you have to manually move the trait in order to get to on/off switch…. My question is, when you manually turn-the Trait does it do damage to the system?
No, should be fine. That's clicking is just the clutch
I have the Heng Long Russian T90 with the metal tracks and wheels and steel gear cogs.
Worth while getting the pro upgrade version.
I think cos the T90 has a lot of bits and pieces on the turret area , my model came with lots of parts to fix and glue, so enjoyed making it.
Apart from the different body mouldings the running gear is the same throughout the range.
Good for the price, but you wont stop at one.
Scale Modellers Heaven. Its massive, heavy and fun to build. Make sure you weather this behemoth. I tried a new brand of cheaper paint for weathering, try India Ink or China Ink for panel lines and grooves to pop-out more realistically. For it is so awesome to drive this Tank on Urban Terrains. Just be sure to bring your smokes.

Love these rc tanks, only thing I've would do is add some weight in the front to balance it more so it climbs way better
Adding The Steel Road Wheels makes a big difference. You will also want Steel Gears, Lube with Lithium Grease and a Higher 2c Lipo Battery. I have a 3600 and works well as with all Steel Gear,Track,Road Wheels and Idlers, your gonna need it.
Is there any way to add bbs containers inside the tank? Copper ones will add more weight but the plastic ones will make more sense because the tank uses 6.m bbs.
I have the henglong tiger 1 with metal gears, tracks etc but I’ve burnt out 4 rx18 modules up to date. Running on grass seems to put to much on the rx unit causing them to fail. Is there any other electronics that can be fitted, I don’t fancy paying over the top for Tamiya dmd units.
Apparently the brand new RX18 6.1 I think they are called are much better.

A Challenger 2 has one of the best armour systems in the world. Chobham armour to be precise. It is used by the M1 Abrams, Challenger 1 and Challenger 2.

Great video. Had no idea that these tanks had so much tech packed in to them like that. Very impressive. I have 3 HengLong tanks. I have 2 German Stug III. One has metal tracks and gearbox and the other one is just the standard one. I am also waiting on a King Tiger. Then I have a very fun RipSaw tank. It is great fun!!

They're pretty much the same
You're welcome and yes, they are pretty much the same. Taigen offer more paint schemes and upgraded tanks though. Parts are interchangeable.
Not all the parts of interchangeable, as with the Panther G, the Upper, Lower Hull and Rear Plate are slightly different from one another to get a sure fit, this is the information I received from Erik (Taigen Rep) a year ago.
But here's an Awesome Upgrade for boh Heng Long and Taigen tanks...their new V2 MFU.

Does the turret go around enough so the barrel can be stowed in the gun rear position?
No but if you take these tanks apart you can file in missing teeth, so fully rotational, but don't get the wires inside twisted too much, go equal left or right rotation.
Oh great! Now someone has to manufacture a small rpg - 9 or tow 2 missle to put this out of commission, awesome tank.
very good value for money especially with all the electronics you get sound, smoke, motor and upgraded metal parts. wanted to ask though, some concerns on an RC modelling site about heng long adding metal parts such as tracks and sprockets was going to cause premature wear to the tank and cause issues such as warping? Any truth to this?

Metal tracks and sprockets will wear eventually depending on where and how much you use it, the options would be plastic tracks which would break under the strain or the rubber band tracks that deteriorate crack and split, all the while looking REALLY good, personally I would stick with the metal ones.

I opened the battery pack from one of my HL tanks. Instead of seeing 1800mah, its battery is only 1500mah. Too bad I cant post a picture here
10:35 U said 120mm Muzzle, but really u say gun, because the muzzle is just the tip of the barrel which is part of the gun inside the turret
Them breech is the part inside the turret the muzzle is on the end of the barrel.

I have the HL challenger with plastic tracks. Does anyone know how too unpin them as mine need shortening, as they start to come off when turning.

I am just building one of these at the minute having already built the Heng Long Abrams M1A2. Just a few comments. The instruction manual is abysmal. They really should spend a little money on a proper English translation. I have enough 'accessories' left over to build another tank! Nowhere does it explain what the vacant slots on the top of the turret are for. The real tank doesn't have these (I live quite close to a Challenger tank range in England and can see the real thing - albeit not in combat conditions). I glue most of the 'snap-in' parts. They don't fit well enough to live them loose. The basic build only took a day but I will spend a week or more weathering and adding camouflage nets and foliage.
Yeah the instructions are a joke, definitely more time invested would make a world of difference
