Marcelito Pomoy is Filipino and has an AMAZING backstory. He is self-taught -- his Dad was incarcerated when Marcelito was young and Marcelito's mom abandoned both him and his younger sibling when he was only 2. He was adopted by a police officer, but he was a virtual orphan and lived on the streets from 8 years old on and only made it through 3rd grade in school. He started singing when he was 7, but didn't realize until he was 18 that he could do both male and female voices He doesn't speak English nor Italian fluently (which makes his "The Prayer" below even more amazing!). He was the Grand Winner of the 2nd season of Philippines Got Talent. He was also recently on America‘s Got Talent The Champions and blew even more people away with his amazing talent What’s even more impressive is that he never had any voice training at all. It’s just from singing all the time to keep his spirits up. Obviously, Celine Dion is one of his heroes. There is a UA-cam video of him singing on the Ellen DeGeneres show… And she then gives him the gift of getting to meet his hero and see her in concert.

Power of Love Marcelino they sing out of a bus in the Philippines I can't imagine doing it live and all the singers on The wish bus or sitting down amazing he says he has never never had anything lessons 🥇
Add to that fact that he doesn’t speak either of those languages, he remembers the songs phonetically then add the fact that he had no lessons in singing, it’s all self taught! Not a bad effort for an orphan, his mother left them when he was about three and then his father was arrested and jailed and since no-one wanted to help him he lived in the jail with his father until one of the prison guards adopted him around four or five. He went to school up to the third grade when he ran away, he left because the cops family treated him as a slave. He then lived on the streets scavenging food scraps from waste bins etc, he did any jobs he could get and he used to watch the singers at night clubs through the windows and copied them. Celine Dion was his favorite singer, and while working on a poultry farm he would sing and by chance he discovered his ability to copy and sing like Celine or any woman. Finally at about 27yo he entered Philippines Got Talent which he won, this seriously changed his life for the better, he rediscovered his family and met his wife. He entered America’s Got Talent where he finally placed fourth after one of the most controversial outcomes of all time, I dare say you could still find most of it on line if you’re interested. However in spite of everything he’s is still a well mannered humble individual (look into his charity work since Covid ).

He's doing Italian phonetically, and yet some native Italian speakers say he's just as understandable as Bocelli. For that matter, he's not that comfortable in conversational English. He's just kinda repeating what he heard on the radio/TV. Perhaps he's a Savant. Plus, he did this sitting down, sacrificing maybe 30% of his lung capacity.
I think you’re right that he’s a Savant. He hasn’t taken singing lessons with a vocal coach. He used to do this kind of performance on the streets (he used to be a homeless hobo) just so he could eat.

Schnell, not only singing perfectly in two different voices but in two languages, neither of which is Marcelito's first language. All done casually, while sitting down. He has stunning talent. Take another trip back to Northern Europe and check out Eivor Palsdottir (From the Faroe Islands), "Trodlabundin" filmed on a farm by a fjord in Norway. It is both vocally and visually stunning.
I think this special voice he owns is a gift from God, knowing how difficult his struggle while he's young and to be able to survive he needs to sing as its the only way to live and make some money. Great reaction and you're one of the many reactors that were blewn away by his unique voice.👌 😀 🇵🇭

An elder sister encouraged hin to join the Philippines Got Talent in 2011and won.Then joined America Got Talent and landed 4th place though he got 51% of the audience vote. He's the world's greatest mimic. He's doing his impersonations of Celine Dion and Andrea Bocceli, and if that means he has to be a stunningly great soprano and tenor, well, that's what he does. For the art.

Do you realise he is mimicking Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli who recorded this. I guess that’s how he taught himself both to sing like this and to sing in Italian.
i would be shocked if he knew 5 words in english. Like many foreign singers singing american songs often times they dont understand the meaning of the lyrics. They mimic the sound of the word, the note but you dont need to know the meaning to replicate the sound. Thats how i learn songs, i replicate the sounds i hear, i cant tell you how many times i have looked up the lyrics of a song i had known a long time and been like, damn, thats what it is?
@@marketsquareus Apparently you have not heard him describing his life story. Yes English is not his first language but he can handle himself very well plus he knows a lot more than 5 words in English.
Non-educated Filipinos can speak more than 5 English words. Everywhere you go, you see English words on signboards, roads, vehicle signs, tv commercials, products packages, etc.etc. in many times, Filipino professionals speak better and understandable English than many people from English speaking countries especially with regards to the correct grammar . Also, the Documents are mostly written in English. TV shows and News in English.

Its just that the way he replicates every note exactly as bocelli and dion did is an indication he is learning the songs phonetically. He is simply replicating what he hears...well not simply. I do the same thing. I can learn a song and sing it like the singer and not even know the meaning of the words i am singing. I cant tell you how many times i have looked up lyrics of songs i had learned and said, oh, THATS what i am singing. I get absorbed by the tone, the sound not so much the meaning of the words. If the singer emotes well enough you dont need to know what the words mean.

Do you realise he is mimicking Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli who recorded this. I guess that’s how he taught himself both to sing like this and to sing in Italian.
i would be shocked if he knew 5 words in english. Like many foreign singers singing american songs often times they dont understand the meaning of the lyrics. They mimic the sound of the word, the note but you dont need to know the meaning to replicate the sound. Thats how i learn songs, i replicate the sounds i hear, i cant tell you how many times i have looked up the lyrics of a song i had known a long time and been like, damn, thats what it is?

@@marketsquareus Apparently you have not heard him describing his life story. Yes English is not his first language but he can handle himself very well plus he knows a lot more than 5 words in English.
Non-educated Filipinos can speak more than 5 English words. Everywhere you go, you see English words on signboards, roads, vehicle signs, tv commercials, products packages, etc.etc. in many times, Filipino professionals speak better and understandable English than many people from English speaking countries especially with regards to the correct grammar . Also, the Documents are mostly written in English. TV shows and News in English.
@@trbarton743 no, i have not heard him speak and i mean no disrespect to him. Its just that the way he replicates every note exactly as bocelli and dion did is an indication he is learning the songs phonetically. He is simply replicating what he hears...well not simply. I do the same thing. I can learn a song and sing it like the singer and not even know the meaning of the words i am singing. I cant tell you how many times i have looked up lyrics of songs i had learned and said, oh, THATS what i am singing. I get absorbed by the tone, the sound not so much the meaning of the words. If the singer emotes well enough you dont need to know what the words mean.
