Nice reaction! I think part of the message comes from an early line: "But insecurity sells". Knocking people down is a marketing strategy, to make us feel like we suck unless we buy this or that product. So later when he says "But we can never buy enough, all the riches in the world can't buy a sense of self-love" it's about how we're coerced to spend money to try and build up our own self-esteem. I think Ren is good at finding and singing about those interesting connections.
I concur. Yes, it is important what you put out in the world like in social media. But social media is fairly new even though focused and potent. But the general idea of norms and beauty fed by advertisers and fashion. I think that is who Ren talking about blend by peer pressure of those who have absorbed societies advertising. Your point about families is well taken but not the whole issue IMHO.
The money and spending is to do with wanting or "needing" thing's. The newest label's, make up, trend. Temporary happiness til the next thing "needed" it's a sad world we live in now & the damage it does to young mind's ❤
I love your reactions to Ren!! Art means different things to different people and what a song means to you is just as valid as what someone else gets out of it
You can't expect the family unit to exist if parents both work, kids are put in schools/babysitting all day, come home and parents push them to sleep early so they can have a few minutes with each other, exhausted. This is the model many are forced into.
Yes, it’s easy to blame it on the families, rather than look at what is happening outside because you don’t want to address what makes you feel uncomfortable.
@@MsCheesemonster13 it's actually easier to blame it on a billions of $ industry than it is for humans to take accountability for their own behaviors and flaws. Families are supposed to be there to catch you when you fall, to help raise you up and to show you your moral compass. Happy Friday, hope you are doing well!💚🤗🍀
The money is mentioned because of the fashion and beauty industries. Make up clothing etc. We are judged for everything we do and they're making billions from our insecurity, which they are responsible for creating.
Over 2020-2021 I got into watching a lot of older British TV shows and movies and realized many of them had so many actors that were very normal/average looking, or just natural (no cosmetic procedures or dentistry), elderly in a surprising number of shows. It was refreshing to not have to look at "perfect" Hollywood types. Now you add all the day-to-day hype to it everywhere you look, with algorithms fueling the fire, it's no wonder people of all ages are struggling.
10:27 he was referring to how expensive everything is. It wasn’t about someone being broke before buying it, it was being broke after buying so much stuff to make yourself look like society expects you to.
Great reaction! This is one of Ren's most important songs. He totally hits the nail on the head with this one! Thanks for reacting to this amazing song ❤❤. Always enjoy your reactions.
"Funny how you act surprised when depression levels rise when you force-feed inadequacies straight into our eyes." I have zero enthusiasm for when my daughters become teenagers.
By fixing the family system you also improve empathy for others. The more empathy for someone it makes more difficult to actively or purposefully hurt them.
Just subscribed! I thought i already did 😅love your reactions. All the advice you give has helped me so much. I just want to say thank you, and i hope you have a fantastic holiday 😀 and also thank you for the links! Very helpful 👌
Kinda reminds me of Sober by Tool. "I will work to elevate you, just enough to bring you down." As for the people telling you that you don't understand a song... Well, music is by definition open to interpretation. Even if if means one thing to someone, that doesn't mean it will mean the same to others. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool.
Good reaction! I would agree with some of your points but I would contest your assertion that raising your kids to be good and decent people negates the pressures of today's beauty standards. My stepkids have always been the most generous and kind people, since they were children. We live in a small town where everyone knows each other and you would hear when things went down at school, even if it wasn't from your own kids. They faced the same challenges and insecurities as other kids, went through some truly family affecting trials of life and there were many outbursts, self harm, and tears along the way. Even being in their 20s themselves now, with kids of their own, they still face those challenges, as we all do. Also, ignoring the connection of money and unrealistic beauty standards is kind of blind, as Ren said, insecurity sells. Look at the weight loss industry, the cosmetics industry, the fragrance industry, the skin care industry, the plastic surgery industry for examples of this. Media forces that bombard us on every corner cannot be ignored. The issue isn't the everyday family, the issue is greed in the hearts of those in society that we will never reach. Greed has always been the motivation to exploit others, from the dawn of time, from slavery to sales, the root is greed...oddly cyclical since greed stems from the sense of never having enough.
Open heart, open mind ❤. If that's how you react then I'm hear to listen even if I see things differently. I agree about families helping make children better people. My family helped me be myself. Grew up with my sisters & mother & surrounded by other wonderful family. I do wonder how someone born in the era of social media can tune it out enough to discover who they are. We learn from making mistakes - FAIL = First Attempt in Learning. Why should those mistakes be what stops us becoming a better person. It's why I'm a huge supporter the right to forget laws that forces tech companies to allow users to wipe their online history.
Unfortunately social pressures and corporations making money are inextricably linked. To think this is not (also) about the dangers of capitalism and corporations making money from the pressure and misery of others is naive. I’m also a mental health professional and RENs insistence on tying these issues to money is vital in understanding the underlying problems. When he says ‘you can never buy enough’ he’s talking in part about the very pressure through peers driven by advertising showing the ‘beautiful people’ which are designed to make people think they need to spend to achieve. It’s capitalism 101. Create an imaginary need and offer a solution at a cost (financial, social and psychological). Apart from this a decent reaction.
The corilation he was getting at with the money was all of the magazines and advertizements saying that you need to buy this to look better, be better, etc...
I was overweight up until the ninth grade. Then things started changing on the outside, I lost weight and gained height. But on the inside I was still the same fat kid always feeling embarrassed with no self esteem. It took me a while to gain social confidence.
I’m sorry that people rip you apart. That is completely unnecessary. As a Ren fan, I feel I have to apologize for those people. At the same time, when I look through the comments, I see a lot of love. I hope you see that too. ♥️♥️
The worst thing anyone can do is compare themselves to others. Children must be shown acceptance and loved for who they are. That who you are as a person, not how you look is what really matters. I know some beautiful people who are the ugliest people I've ever met.
I think the money and self image are tied together in that media is constantly pushing an image of the “perfect” person and the only way, according to them is to buy this and that to make yourself more like that photoshopped image. Then you have to buy more and more.
Listen to sick boi ii. Or finish reacting to the album!!!! I warched most of your nf journey, you catch plenty, Ren just has a way with his words that makes people feel, all kinds of ways.
Do you know how HUGE the beaty industry is? Not to mention all the other industries whose profits are partly reliant of body insecurity. Cosmetic surgery is pretty much normalised nowadays. Can you really not see how money fits into this? Really???
I’m like your reaction. Can see why you’d be ripped. Like - your comment on family, which when it’s good is great, will be seen by some as judgment on single parent families, which I’m sure it wasn’t. You can’t please all the people all of the time. Ren and you get society. Hers a funnel journey - insta for likes, some realise more skin means likes. So wear less, some will then get dms encouraging only fans, some will then do whatever is encouraged to make more money, and some will end up meeting others for paid sex - it happens.
is it bad that I didn't find this sad at all? it's just the reality of the world, nothing more. If we can't do anything about it, why sit around and pout?
How can someone who calls theself a therapist have this go so completely over your head? Good grief! I've noticed this before on other videos of yours, where you just completely miss meanings, or entire themes, even when they're blatant and clear as day. You seem to have a very set and narrow view of things and if something doesn't 'appear', to you, to match up with that view, exactly, then it goes completely over your head, or gets rejected out of hand, automatically, with little, or no, thought or consideration. I can't believe you're a 'therapist'. Actually, that's not true, I know there are plenty of dreadful therapists out there. After all, to call yourself a 'therapist', you need no proper professional qualifications. Some have such qualifications but most don't. Just some short course attended, with a 'diploma' at the end. Some don't even have that. It's clear that you've never properly studied psychology, let alone psychiatry. I guess there are plenty of people gullible enough to fall for such modern day snake oil though, unfortunately...
Hey Codex, not sure what "theself" means but I'd love to hear? Also, I'd love for you to come on a livestream with me and talk more about this in front of the youtube community, let me know when youre available?? Lastly, its interesting how you know my education and experience level without ever talking to me. And i never heard what you actually think went over my head? Your turn...

Ithink Ren's point is that cosmetic companies advertising is insidious. It is devised to make us feel inadequate in order that they can make money.
Also the cosmetic industry is a Billion dollar industry

This should be shown to all pre teens at school. Self love is so important.
"Boy, does it touch on young women, which I'm a great proponents of". What a fantastically mind boggling statement to make online. Lol
Insecurity sells… he’s speaking on the fact that companies feed off our insecurities to make millions.
