It's just not possible to have a spotless home when you have young children. What impressed me most about my mom was not how clean she kept our home but how often she helped our neighbors and friends. She made so many meals, took friends and neighbors to dr's appts, etc. She was such a godly example. Thank you for the encouragement you provide! Have a blessed week.🩷

Kristen, there is no such thing as perfection in homemaking. Give yourself some grace. Andrea would be the first one to tell you that.
My daughter has adult ADHD and she is hard on herself too. Please celebrate what you do and not what you don't...
Her house is rarely un-messy but is filled with love. She has three kids, a busy career and a husband who's gone back to school at 39.
You are such a sweet mama. Cherish your family. Good for you!😘

The fact that you are trying and conscious of these things means you haven’t failed. You’re obviously a loving mother and wife and the rest will fall into place. Well done for starting out with plans & goals but if some things fall off please give yourself Grace ❤️❤️ you are here to enjoy your life too ❤️❤️

Kristin, you are creating a very tall order for yourself to take on all at once. Please take one step at a time, create a workable plan, and give yourself grace and the time needed to achieve a level that works for you and your family. God does, and you are His image!

I owned a cleaning company for 30 years. I always told my clients never to look at the whole house as a huge mess. Don't stress. Tackle the most important rooms first. Your kitchens and bathrooms, to me, need to be the cleanest part part of your home. Doing laundry every day will help you keep it under control. Get up and start on your home as soon as the husband and kids leave the house. Plan your meals for the whole week. Deep clean once a month. Use a checklist on a calendar for your chores. When people come to my house, they're asking how do I keep it so clean. I clean my kitchen, bathroom, and floors every day. I dust, change beds, and go to the grocery on Sundays. Planning out your days really helps you keep on track. But remember, your home is to live in. It's not a showroom. The dirt will be there waiting for you if you can't get to it when you think you should.

I am 50 and a new empty nester, so I made some goals for myself in September for this new phase of life.
I've been exercising 4-5 times a week, reading my bible more, and trying to cook healthier meals. I've also been trying to go through my house and clean out drawers, cupboards, closets, etc (and get rid of things we don't use or need). Love your videos, Kristen - thank you!

My children are grown and gone….sadly I had to work while raising them. How I wish I could have been a full time homemaker.
Satan has such a way of getting into our hearts and minds when we need to work outside the home.
I made many mistakes while they were young. How I wish I could do it all over again. And do it right.
But we serve a God who is sovereign. Still in His throne.
How thankful I am that He speaks through you. That He has your heart…
Thank you for sharing. I’ll be praying for you and your family as you continue to walk your walk.

We have been learning about hearing the voice of God in a class in our church. While I was listening to your desire to implement life giving habits, there was a sense in my heart that these didn’t just pop into your mind but rather that you are hearing the Father. That means He will enable and direct you daily in this journey. He is calling His children to minimize the fluff, as you described. I too have been hearing His call to lesson the ‘noise’ of media and unnecessary busyness, to once again yearn to spend time in silence in His presence. It’s like giving up sugar in the spiritual realm! So this grandma is linking arms with you and cheering you on. Blessings on you and your family.

Kristen you are such a good hearted person , your intentions are to be admired , I only had 2 children and often felt overwhelmed . My mother had 10 children , without the benefit of modern appliances and all her cooking and baking was from scratch …. I don’t know how she did it , bless her heart ! If you feel this is your intention , God’s Grace is available to help you and everyone who cares about you can help by praying for you . If there are times when it gets overwhelming , that’s O.K. Too .😇💕💕

Home should be a sanctuary for you and your family. It looks to me like you are well on your way to creating that. Good for you for working on the things that will not only make your life better but once you establish a routine of good healthy habits you will find it easier to keep them up. Teaching your children to make good and healthy habits will be a blessing to them. They will thank you for it later in life. I was a stay at home mom of 4 and I can tell you those dust bunnies will still be there tomorrow if you don't get to them today and is okay. Prioritize your week and delegate to your children what is age appropriate. They need to know these skills they will learn. Have a blessed week =)

There is no such thing as a prefect homemaker. For me what makes a. “perfect home” is not just the stuff in the home but it is the spirit/atmosphere that creates a “home”. When in real estate I’ve been in mansions which is immaculate and beautiful. I’ve been in some where you felt like keeping your hands in your pockets and you felt tense and afraid to move or relax and then I’ve been in homes with the exact same beauty and elegance and felt completely relaxed and at home. The difference, the spirit of the people who lived there. For me that’s way more important than trying to make everything perfect. Create an atmosphere of calm and peace which for me is way more valuable and attainable no matter what you have or don’t have and no matter what systems you put in place for yourself. Of course being children of the most high we have an edge, He helps us achieve that. 😉👍

When I was younger as a young mom I remember struggling to stay focused. I received great advise fro a friend that I still do today. Whenever I had to prepare my home for an advent I would go nuts trying to prepare the home, and party. I would start one project after another without finishing. I was famous for getting distracted easily. My little tip that worked for me was to make a list of everything I wanted to do. Every little detail. It was satisfying to cross things off my list and helped me greatly stay on track. May the Lord bless you and family.

The best and most important habit i have done is every morning i read six chapters of Scripture, 3 in the old testament and 3 in the new testament. There are two parts to homemaking. The first is caring for the actual house, the other is caring for the people who live there. The house should never be more important than the people. In adulthood, your children will not remember how clean your kitchen floor was. They will remember if you stopped to play with them, took them on outings and paid more attention to them, than you did the cleaning or laundry.

I've been a professional musician for decades and discipline is like breathing! I have the opposite problem--allowing a little spontaneity in my life! One thing the Lord showed me back in 2009 is to be prayerful about my health and the health of my family. I have incorporated drinking lemon water regularly which is a daily flush, and eating pineapple daily, which has a component in it that fights colds and flu. And I'm telling you, I don't get sick. No more colds, flu, bronchitis, coughing, scratchy chest. I give God the glory and I am grateful for His leading me to this intentionality. Best of all, my son doesn't get sick, either.

You’re always so inspiring Kristen. As a retired pastor’s wife, I’ve found myself being tired more frequently and less likely to have people in our home for times of fellowship. We are still very active within our church and still lead a Lifegroup but I haven’t been purposeful in staying focused on completing tasks and keeping my home comfortable to the point of inviting others in. The Lord has convicted me of this and this year, I’ve committed to do better in these areas. Thank you again for your witness and vulnerability to be real with us all! May the Lord continue to provide in mighty ways for your precious family, All of you to stay healthy, but most of all for the Lord to help you carry out your hearts desire to please him in all the areas in your life that you’ve shared with us. Blessings my sweet friend. Keep sharing as you are able. ❤

I am gonna leave a small quote for you "cleaning the house while the children are still growing is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing".... children make messes is what they do,, ,I was born in 1961, and I always had a very difficult time organizing and cleaning my room, organizing my schoolwork notebooks etc, and had a difficult time with study habits, had difficult time with math concepts etc. The teachers would write many time Ron has a difficult tim during class, she daydreams a lot". When I was in school they didn;t have the term attention deficit disorder or hyperactivity disorder.... I am convinced as is my hsband that we both had this in school, though pretty sure I don;t suffer from the hyperactive part, nothing about me is hyper, that is my husbands jam, he can hardly sit still unless he is preparing a sermon, lesson or reading a book...I so appreciate your videos and it makes me feel better and blessed that there are people out there who don;t have spotless homes and are still trying,,,,, Thank you SO much for your transparency,,,, the verse you quoted at the end jogged my memory. My husband who was interim pastoring a chiuch last winter and early spring had the church memorize it and I qupted it with you,,,,

Kristen, I believe you can attain these goals and have them become habits in God's strength. I've always been somewhat organized, but as my kids grew up, I didn't do the organizing alone. I taught them how to care for the things God allowed them to have.... it's teaching them perspective. Their rooms weren't always perfect, for me, but that wasn't the goal. Nurturing their hearts to want to do the best for God was. Also, I agree with cutting out or back on sugar. I really noticed a difference in my son's behavior when he had less of it.

I hear you, Kristen! I tend, nope, I AM a perfectionist as well as a control freak! These are traits I'm working on daily. Perfectionism is bondage & striving to be in control is showing a lack of faith in God & His care over me. That doesn't mean I'm not proactive about my life, but I am trying to give over my tendency to strive to be in control. So, yes, we all have areas in our lives to work on. Giving up added sugar in your diet is a win-win. I've not met anyone who has given up sugar & felt worse for it. You have set worthy goals in your life & I commend you. Don't forget to give yourself some grace as you move forward. Commit your goals to the Lord and run for the prize He has set for you & your family!

Yes, Kristen, I think we all struggle with maintaining good habits, even w/o ADHD! I have OCD, so routines are easier (even negative ones). I have found that getting up earlier than my family to read/study God's Word in a quiet room helps to set the rest of my day up for better success. Meal planning, I've found, is an easier "routine" as well: rotating meats, carbs, & veggies so I don't have to fret. I know on Monday we will have eggs for breakfast & chicken, rice dish, & a green veggie for dinner. No guess work! You are doing great - - & such an inspiration to us all out here!!!

    Hi Kristen,
I am endeavouring to batch cook nutritious meals pop them in our freezer to make things easier when sickness descends upon our home. I also plan ahead and have a ‘Comfort Box’ for sickness. What is this? Well it’s an ordinary large box (or a basket, if you prefer, in it I put lots of soft tissues with balm to prevent sore noses, Throat sweets, a few bars of comforting chocolate (or any treat), a few easy read books or magazines, quiet games/books/puzzles for kids etc.
Different families will chose different contents
I store the box in our living room so when we are sick it’s easier to hibernate and keep sick or raucous kids amused without wearing you out! I also encourage kids who can read to do so or to have wholesome movies and tv shows to binge watch as rest is, I believe, vitally important. I also keep a close eye on stocks in our medicine cabinet - it’s not fun to run out of something that may sooth a crying baby.
Sending prayers and best wishes from our home in England to yours ❤️✝️🙏🏻❤️✝️🙏🏻

You inspire me. Your family is beautiful, husband, 3 girls, and another life on the way. This year I'm being intentional about what food I eat. Cutting out added sugars, for example I now purchase Teddie's peanut butter, as it's made from peanuts and salt, nothing else. I'm also purchasing non-GMO products, organic products. It is fairly easy for me as I live in Vermont and that's the way of life here. The difference in taste with organic products is amazing. You are inspiring and sweet! These goals are all worthy ones, but just work to be intentional with them. You tend to be too hard on yourself. Give yourself credit for the good things you achieve. Home should be a sanctuary, with the Holy Spirit there -- which you have. But that doesn't mean it's always supposed to be clean and neat. Just get it picked up at the end of the day -- with your kids, too -- and that'll be good. You're so good at interacting with your girls.
I'm bad at procrastinating and not being intentional. That's something I need to work on.
Btw, I keep seeing UA-cam ads for a yoga app with wall pilates. I'm too old to get on the floor, but that type of thing might be perfect for you: in the home, no equipment, do it with your kids.
I wish you the best, always! ❤

Good list Kristen! I have known many mothers who ignore their homes because “they are little a short time” regarding their children. Yes, our children grow fast, but as SAHM’s part of our jobs are to instill life habits for our children, a clean, not spotless, not perfect, but clean home actually encourages gathering and fun because you can nest in the home because there is room and tidiness in it rather than leaving the home because it’s overwhelming in its dirt and clutter- a tidy home also helps if you are a homeschool mom or a public school mom because it helps calm the mind of your children to be able to do school work. Menu planning not just helps streamline your day because you don’t have to think about what to make but it saves money just like cooking from scratch AND if one involves the children it is another life lesson on top of having conversation with your children. A tidy home is healthy for the mind, body and soul. Daily exercise, whether it’s a walk or focused exercise keeps our bodies strong so we can pick up our littles, endure a long day of running around or dealing with fussy littles and created a sharper brain, plus, again is instills healthy habits in your children for their future health and welfare. Being in God’s word is the foundation you speak of, I use to tell my now adult children that I had to speak to Jesus for a little bit and read about Him so I could be a better mommy, wife and person- many times they would either be having their quiet time (the above sentence answered their “why do I need to have quiet time” for the most part 😅)plus we, like you, have family devotionals and reading of the Bible, when my children were able to sit and read quietly, they could be with me as I spent my time being in the Word- it’s important for them to see you reading and studying God’s word- another lifetime habit you are instilling in them. Routines allow for more spontaneous things and fun activities- one of the things I encourage any person to get is the Passionate Penny Pincher Home Planner- it has daily and weekly tasks that will instill habits and routines that will become second nature to you- the daily morning and evening tasks at the top of every weak initially look overwhelming but they are quick, then each day has a menu plan, a Bible reading, a focused task and then there is one weekly task like clean and organize the spice cabinet or clean and organize hall closet- it’s to be completed in that specific week- not one day, but allows you to take a week to accomplish though if you can do it in a day, all the better. I have decided to cut the ties to FB and then IG- I don’t have any other app like TikTok or SnapChat, etc. UA-cam is the only social media I am keeping and that is more about creators like you Kristen, I tend to go to vlogs or websites, like Farmhouse on Boone, The Cross Legacy (food preservation and storage), The Bible ReCap, etc- positive and uplifting and educational for me. You can buy organic no sugar peanut butter. I’ve been sugar free for years. Apparently a person cannot be allergic but it can definitely make you feel bad. It’s very hard at first but it gets easier. I found the first 2-3 weeks were the hardest.
    Nutrition will definitely help!

As so many others have commented, you do get kudos for even making a plan. I personally don't see how you do all you do now. With a new little life you all are preparing for, you are going to have your hands even more full. I'm not saying this to plant doubt on your plans and all of your intentions, I would be terribly sad for you to ever become down on yourself. You are only one person, and I do believe just from my time being part of your community that you and Josh work together to grow and maintain this beautiful family you have created. So, enough of me. I just rambled all that to say, I'm still one of your and your families biggest fans. Keep doing what you are doing. 😉

I refined sugar fasted in January. That was hard. I did realize I was addicted to sugar and it had to be done. While on the fast, it opened my mind to what I’ve been wanting to do for years. Now, I’m like you. I’m learning to make things that I normally would buy. To stay aware from preservatives and additives that are added for shelf life. People say, If you can’t pronounce it, don’t it eat it. Just made a small batch of strawberry jam 😊

Buy organic red onions, cut them in quarters 12:59
and put them around the house (high up so your dog doesn’t get it). Red onions absorb germs, mold, viruses, etc. it will prevent lots of illnesses. I throw them away and put new ones out every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It works.

These are all great things to strive for. I will say that trying to have a perfect home is kind of toxic. Especially if you have young kids. Our priority should be in spending more time with our kids, having more one on one time, and I think that sometimes we fall into the trap of Wanting to have a perfect home and making that the priority is just because we see other people on social media having perfect homes. Kids are more important than a perfectly clean and organized space.

You are doing a great job. One comment I actually heard from Oprah, back in the 90’s. That I always remembered was “ do your eyes light up when your kids/ husband walks in the door ? “ It’s doesn’t matter if the house is a mess or there is an amazing meal or snack on the table. What matters and what people always remember is how you make them feel !!!! . So I would always greet them like royalty walked in, like I was over joyed to see them. That’s all anyone ever really wants or needs to be loved and a place to belong. A safe place in your home, where they can be themselves. I think thats why kids always behave worst or be clinging to mom than anyone else. They know this is safe place to express there emotions, good or bad. I think that’s why your Channel is such a success. You naturally make your viewers feel wanted and loved . God Bless.

Kristin - nice video and good reminders. One thing my mom always did was get all of us kids involved in cleaning/picking up and participate in helping the family enjoy their space. We could not start a new game, project, “something” until we had put away the first thing. We learned that it was a family effort to care for our things/home and grew our appreciation.

Organizing is my key this month. We have deleted most processed foods and sugars! We have a lot of Protein and fruits and Vegetables now. There are ways to add the sweetness without the sugar. We have needed this for along time. We feel so much better for it too! You are doing a great job Kristen. Day by day and you will get there! I love this video and I am really looking forward to hearing about your journey. My biggest habit change this year is letting go of worrying/anxiety and surrendering to God instead. I grew up in an envirpnment where worrying about somwone was a way to show love and care... so it is a big mindset shift to realize worry goes against trusting God's plan. Digging into scripture around worry has helped me so much. ❤

I feel the same way you do and I don’t know how to achieve what we want. Do you feel the same way? I know I need to be more mindful, and right now I’m more scatterbrained. I need consistency and to be more meaningful.

Good morning Kristen, I, too, have recently been diagnosed with ADD. It explains so much now that I wasn't able to learn the same way of the other kids in school and how I didn't always make the best decisions in my life. I have a heart condition, so medication ( not that I would take it) is not possible. I also am not a fan of eating eggs lol but what I do sometimes is either make egg salad yum or I scramble some eggs and add it to fried rice. I hope you have a lovely day, and I love your energy, lol. You always make me laugh 😃. Sending hugs and prayers from cloudy Massachusetts. 🙏💛

When my boys were diagnosed with ADHD the psychologist said an interesting fact that a lot of women don’t get diagnosed until they have kids and end up feeling overwhelmed by all the demands on them. They find that even though they’ve been doing alright up until that point all the coping mechanisms they’ve put in place just aren’t able to sustain the constant influx of stimuli in motherhood.

We’ve recently realized my husband has it as well and it has been so helpful as a spouse to learn more of how his brain works and how I can better support him. It’s not a learning disability, it’s just his brain works a different way.

So what is your objective on u tube? Will you still be thrifting for your home?
I know ever since my grandson said Grandma you should try u tube. Oh my watching u tube can literally take over one's life. One really has to be disciplined in putting a check on that. I love the people I watch but it can easily get out of control.
I'm trying to narrow down who and what I watch.

Kristen, I buy a whole chicken, and cook it in an instant. We get 1 or 2 meals from that chicken, then I always throw bones back in, add 2 tbsp acv, a bay leaf and fill with cold water and run again for 2 hours. Then I have tons of bone broth, which I can keep in fridge in mason jars all week. I warm up a couple jars of broth through the day and sip like tea. It helps bump up your protein and collagen intake, helps with immunity, and helps overcome sugar addiction

I am 73, and i want you to know that you have your special qualities that i honestly relate to. You are relaxed and show us it's ok to have messes, or days that you dont accomplish as much. You are real, and let us know sometimes projects dont always come out the first time. You show us how you persevere to ultimately get the results you want. You never give up, and by showing us this we feel stronger too!
