Like the heavenly L''Heure Bleue, Mitsouko is a true masterpiece. I do not wear it often, but I find I crave it on chilly, damp, grey rainy days. It shines especially beautifully on those days for me. LB and Mitsouko are just two reasons why no other house has ever beaten or will ever beat Guerlain as far as I am concerned. :)

I just bought the 2019 EDP of this! It smells a little sour on me. But the sour isn't terrible. So far I'm liking it because it's not a big ol' sugar bomb like so many others, and because that it smells iconic and INTERESTING. Hoping I don't smell like an old cupboard.... thanks for all your entertaining, informative videos!
Superb to see you reviewing some of the REAL, TRUE classics Tom. I use all the "oldies" out there. I love Estee Lauder Knowing, Clinique Aromatics Elixir (not now though, but as it USED TO BE - its now a watered down shell of the original formula). Chanel Coco. I find the high street perfumes of today cannot even TOUCH the fragrances of, say, the 70's and 80's. Many young girls pass me by, all wearing the same "plasticky" sweet, cheap smelling scent out there today. LOVE Mitsouko Tom. I'd be VERY interested to hear what you think of DIVA by Ungaro!! You'd be so proud of me! I bought this a while back along with leau' bleu - and have worn them for a while - I didnt like either at first - but now I where them all the time and enjoy! Still cant smell the peach it Mitsouko- but it will come
Wow, Tom! Such a perfect timing for this review, I really enjoyed it! And pretty funny, too On my skin the peach isn't prominent, and I'm happy about it, cause I don't like fruity notes at all. However, this one has a peculiar magic of its own - the only chypre I've met that I liked, not at once, after a few takes I sort of understood what it's all about and now I'm thinking of getting a small bottle. It is intriguing. And it requires respect and thought, a mature approach. And also, to my nose, this cool spring weather complements this mysterious fragrance really nicely, I feel an elegant trail lingering from my silk scarf, and it makes me smile inside, just like this video did. Thank you! xx
Thanks so much!! I think you've given me an idea, to maybe get a little baby bottle. Just to have it and visit it when the mood fits. It's a great one and very complex.
My mom got me a bottle of Mitouko in august of this year and I love it more as the seasons progress. This is a strange perfume, it changes character and the order/intensity of notes depending on time of day and, so far, time of year! When I very first put a spritz on my wrist it was rather jarring. It definitely begins with that old timey chypreness but has an additional aspect... it's akin to the way weed, marijuana that is, used to smell in the late 90s. It wasn't as skunky in those days, so that unique and sweet aroma wasn't drowned out by skunk. Then as it how on, it changes, as any good scent does. From chypre to a succulent floral. A floral mixed with rough, for lack of a better word, peach. Then the delicate powder, then a rich amber incense. All throughout is something else I can't quite put my finger on, but I love it. It's definitely one of my all time favorites.
Mitsouko was a blind buy for me.At first i hated it,,,oh dear, what a waste of money but then after spraying it on for a couple of days trying to like it,something happened, i fell madly in love,,i LOVE this perfume,,,my favourite ever,,i never want to be without a bottle ,,just divine
My grandma wore that and when I was a child I was fascinated by it because, unlike the other perfumes, it was ULTRA rich and even looked thicker than the other liquids.
They say that Femme by Rochas, which I have, .... another frag born of almost the same time period, smells like Mitsouko, only they use plum instead (or with) peach. Now that fragrance is to die for!! Smooth as smooth can be. EDIT: sorry... Femme was launched in 1944 >snaps fingers
This scent is so complex for sure. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this video. I'm also not a huge fan of chypres but still enjoy this scent because it's so iconic. PS love your FB group : )
Oh Tom, I watched this with the biggest smile on my face!!! I've been waiting sooo long for this review! I'm wearing Mitsouko (edp) today...I absolutely love Mitsouko!!! I wear this more often than just about anything I have. It also performs better than most any other fragrance I have ever tried. The only floral that I detect in this is ylang-ylang. I get quite a bit of vetiver as well. Besides that, I would say this review was spot on, and it does smell very rich, also sexy, and as the name suggests... mysterious! I had a guy tell me once while I was wearing Mitsouko that he couldn't breath too deeply around me or he would not be able to control himself. I agree with Turin on this one...it is very likely the best fragrance ever made!!! As a side note, in case people are wondering, I think Mitsouko is completely unisex. Thank you Tom for going for it and reviewing this amazing fragrance. ❤️❤️❤️ Also, if you enjoy this give Femme Rochas a go. The scent is glorious, but I give fair warning that the performance is atrocious. I so wish they would bring that one back in a edp or pure parfum...I would have to have it!!!
Yayyyy! Ya know you are the second person to mention this Rochas one, now I'm intrigued for sure. Maybe I'll have to try and hunt some down. Oh gosh..he Mitsouko magic worked on that guy right? haha. Love it. i think I need a baby sized cute bottle just to fit into my collection.
I think you will love the scent of Femme Rochas but like I said the performance is awful. The company told me it has been discontinued but it's still available. If they brought it back in a stronger concentration it would likely be my signature. It's similar to Mitsouko but fleshier, spicier...it smells like sex in a bottle...you should definitely try it...just know it doesn't last long at all!
I adore Mitsouko. It’s been my signature since 2018. I do receive compliments, often toward the 6-10 hour mark. Just 1-2 spritzes of edp. Intoxicating 😋😋
Thank you for doing this one. It's cool to get your perspective on this classic. Oddly enough, listening to you speak on the character of the peach and the dry moss further confirmed the next purchase on my docket. I'll leave her unnamed at the moment so she'll still be available come payday. Lol. Just in case this video manages to go viral in the next few days. 😎
Ooooh the pressure! I rally got a massive wave of vetiver from this at certain times as well which I stupidly forgot to mention, so there is a masculinity and grassyness too but, mainly it's green and fruity. :)
I loved your review of Mitsouko. Bravo! Such honesty and detail. Very brave of you to take this one on. I have a love/hate relationship with M ...likely because I can't stand oak moss. M is a complex lady, and in certain weather I love it, and in other weather, I can't stand it. Inspired by you review, I'm wearing it tonight.
Hello Ouch110, if you enjoyed Mitsouko I recommend you might also like Femme by Rochas. Femme also offers that fruity-mossy-vibe but in a soft way. Greet´s
haha I was just googling " chypre" when you started a definition, lovely, thanks for clearing that up. I have a clone of Mitsouko but doubt it compares to the original, still like it a lot though.Nice review
This isn't a modern perfume but at all! Nostalgia doesn't allow me to think whether I like it or not. This is a VERY nostalgic and imo a very melancholic perfume. This and pretty much anything with oakmoss as a first note. It kinda reminds me of old-fashioned soap.
This is my signature scent ..... wearing it for over 40 years.... yes I am Old! LOL It has been reformulated but its not too bad - many perfumes that have been changed over the years do not smell a thing like they used to , but Mitsouko , in my opinion - is OK..... not as Rich as it used to be and the EDT - yuk. Buy the EDP ! I have to say .... people either like it or not .......still ....look around the department store and I bet you cannot find another perfume that could be a dupe of it! Ha!
Great review; I personally love all the history in addition to discussion on the notes and personal analysis of the scent. I'm going to have to dig mine out today and check it out again. I love classic Guerlains, but this one is truly "mysterious"! I have an '80s edition, and maybe it's that reformulation, but there is a stuffiness about it that makes it a tad intimidating for me, and I never get the peach that I would like. Again though, a very thorough and excellent review! Definitely will look at more of your videos. :)
Thanks so much!! This was a scary review to do only because I personally find classic Chypres difficult to dissect. Especially ones with the history and fan base that this one has. :) Glad you likes it.
_In the olden days_ laughing .Your delivery was funnnnny I was sitting inside DQ, Dairy Queen , yesterday having my ice cream and the song My Sweet Lord by George Harrison came on . I was sampling Acqua di Parma's Colonia Essenza and a thought of how incredible the song was written came to mind. Then I thought of how long this house, AdP, has been around. Then I thought of Beethovan's 9th , the Sistine Chapel architecture and artwork. I thought of how beautiful and passionate the flamenco guitar is, I used to play it, or how wonderful the song Greensleeves is. All the while I kept smelling the Colonia. Yes, the one I had on was from 2010, but the house of Acqua di Parma has been around since 1916. My conclusion was the same as yours, somethings just stand the test of time because of how well they are done. I still love new music like Glass Animals etc, along with new fragrances, but I can't reject something just because it is dated. I have a gorgeous collection of ABP Cut Glass. ABP stands for the American Brilliant Period. It fell out of favor in the collectors circles , and the millennials like their travel and minimalism , and because of that, I have a great collection for next to nothing. So, don't let beauty pass you by because of what the general populace deems what is,and what isn't . Nobody liked Mexican House Jewelry for awhile, and now, well they just can't get enough of it. Do you think you will sample MDCI's Chypre Palatin ?
George Harrison is the best greenselves is cool too. Debussy all the way for classical though!! A cool thing about Debussy when he was in music school his professors didn't like his music they said it sounded like "a city bus" which I think is the coolest thing to make a piano sound like
Well , well, mmm, OK. I don't think so , but I've learned to take a compliment . Seriously though. check out some of the Mexican House Jewelry from Taxco. Cameos/Victorian jewelry fell out of favor, now you have all the San Francisco's and the Metal Maven's , BPAL perfumer heads who love it. Want to view something sooo cool . Check out The Edwardian Ball Events in San Francisco Ball. I so want to go to one of those Balls.
@@AliceBukowski I really love EDS and I never smell Mitsouko before. These two smell common? I probably go to Mitsouko because Sisley's costs too much for me :(((
@@Ka3wwww I wouldn't say they smell common. Mitsouko is more exotic, oriental, jungle/woody, creative. Eau du Soir is serious, confident, straight, luxury, the Grand Madame, the Business Lady. It's hard for me to explain it in English. Maybe Thomas can explain this better? 😂
I really enjoyed this review. I've been meaning to tell you for quite some time that you are my favorite fragrance reviewer. You do such a good job. And I really love your Channel. I came across a perfume on Facebook Marketplace last week that I had never heard of. I purchased it and I really love it. I would love to know if you've ever smelled it, or what your thoughts are on it. It is called Oscar de la Renta Volupte. 😁
Why thanks!!! That's very sweet! Oscar fragrances? I actually haven't smelled any!!! I have been told about them though, I just don't know where to start. :(
Thank you so much for such a great review👏!, I felt I was almost smeling it😀, With which current perfume could be compared? of course if that could be possible
I think as a classic Chypre it was designed for women but, it's all about your own perception. The lines are blurred nowadays. Foresty things to me are neither masucline or feminine. :)
The edt of this lasts over 24 hours, which is nuts for an edt... I absolutely love it - it opens portals to the past... Charlie Chaplin wore it!! Could totally understand why a young person might flee from it. I don't really like florals, but this is deep and powdery and just delicious!! It lingers without being clingy or cloying...
Is there a sweetness to the one you're testing? There was a sweetness to the Mitsouko I owned in 79. That sweetness is not in the current Edp nor the EdT unfortunately. Still, a beautiful chypre even in it's current form. I love your reviews Tom😊
@@ouch110 yes especially the current Edp. Very musky too which makes it kind of ethereal. It is beautiful though. Oh could you review Sisley Soir de Lune? I love this fragrance. Thanks. Have a great day.😊
Ahhh! Haha it isn’t the one that changed my mind I’m afraid. It’s actually a steady stream of modern chypre perfumes that have opened my mind to that style and feeling. I am still a bit iffy with full on vintage green chypres. But now I appreciate the chypre style? I’m more open! Hehe
I ordered this because I was under the impression there was a peach note - I'm not getting it - I do hope it grows on me - Maybe someday my nose will be more discerning and I'll be able to smell the peach - I am so interested in learning more about Guerlain- guess I jumped right to an advanced fragrance when I'm a novice. Thanks for all the great reviews!
You're welcome. :) Sooo my advice would be...smell a FULL on chypre like Aliage by Estee Lauder or Nikki De Saint Phalle, then compare them to Mitsouko...you will DEFFO feel the peachy fruitiness by comparison. :)
It's a style of fragrance that's been around for decades. Usually containing a citrussy top note, labdanum resin in the heart and a mossy/woody base. Chanel no19 is a good example also. :)
Whoa...I also got a massive wave of grassy vetiver in the drydown of this..so complex""
As a man do you prefer mitsiko or dune by cd on a woman ?

I thought of how beautiful and passionate the flamenco guitar is, I used to play it,
or how wonderful the song Greensleeves is. All the while I kept smelling the Colonia.
Yes, the one I had on was from 2010, but the house of Acqua di Parma has been around since 1916.
My conclusion was the same as yours, somethings just stand the test of time because of how well
they are done. I still love new music like Glass Animals etc, along with new fragrances, but I can't reject
something just because it is dated. I have a gorgeous collection of ABP Cut Glass. ABP stands
for the American Brilliant Period. It fell out of favor in the collectors circles , and the millennials
like their travel and minimalism , and because of that, I have a great collection for next to nothing.
So, don't let beauty pass you by because of what the general populace deems what is,and what isn't .
Nobody liked Mexican House Jewelry for awhile, and now, well they just can't get enough of it.
Do you think you will sample MDCI's Chypre Palatin ?
You are the most intriguing person ever Period
George Harrison is the best greenselves is cool too. Debussy all the way for classical though!! A cool thing about Debussy when he was in music school his professors didn't like his music they said it sounded like "a city bus" which I think is the coolest thing to make a piano sound like
The both of your replies just made me smile.
Thanks in bunches.
Well , well, mmm, OK. I don't think so , but I've learned to take a compliment .
Seriously though. check out some of the Mexican House Jewelry from Taxco.
Cameos/Victorian jewelry fell out of favor, now you have all the San Francisco's
and the Metal Maven's , BPAL perfumer heads who love it.
Want to view something sooo cool . Check out The Edwardian Ball Events in San Francisco Ball.
I so want to go to one of those Balls.
Great review! Lovely old school scent, truly classic-)
Thank you!!
This was an excellent review! Glad I discovered you.
Welcome aboard!
It was a favorite fragrance of Charlie Chaplin, Ingrid Bergman, Jean Harlow, Sergei Diaghilev, and Anais Nin.
I hate Chypres, but I love Mitsouko ❤️
Same, although Mitsouko is more fruity. :)
Same here, but with Sisley's Eau du Soir😁 (and Mitsouko, too)
@@AliceBukowski I really love EDS and I never smell Mitsouko before.
@@AliceBukowski I get ur point, thx a lot :))
Great review and you perked my interest in a genre.
Thanks!
ouch110 Fragrance Reviews I immediately fell in love with this fragrance. Volupte. I have probably 200 fragrances, and none of them are like this.
'Old cupboard', yes!
Great video! I would love to see you do a review on jo Malone scents.
Ooooh I have a few samples!
Thank you so much for such a great review👏!, I felt I was almost smeling it😀, With which current perfume could be compared? of course if that could be possible
Hello!! :) Well, Mitsouko IS a current perfume. It's till very much in production. Chypres like this aren't really made anymore. It's a classic!!
ouch110 Fragrance Reviews Thanks!
what a fantastic review!
I'm waiting on a small bottle. I'm hoping the masculine notes are strong. (My mother used to serially buy this stuff, but that was eons ago).
Through discovering Mitsouko, I finally realized that all my perfume loves since the 1970s have mostly been chypres.
great review!, would you please review Il Baccio
Thanks! I have never heard of this fragrance, who is it by?
Old cupboard 🤪 love it.. so true
Is there a sweetness to the one you're testing? There was a sweetness to the Mitsouko I owned in 79. That sweetness is not in the current Edp nor the EdT unfortunately. Still, a beautiful chypre even in it's current form. I love your reviews Tom😊
Thanks! There is a bit of sweetness yes, fruity sweetness from peach. But overall it's kinda a dry fragrance to me.
@@ouch110 yes especially the current Edp. Very musky too which makes it kind of ethereal. It is beautiful though. Oh could you review Sisley Soir de Lune? I love this fragrance. Thanks. Have a great day.😊
Have you tried the Jessica Sympson Fancy Nights? If so, do you like It?
Yes, I have reviewed it here....a while ago. :) ua-cam.com/video/soZWT_fYUGI/v-deo.html
Do you have a review of L’Heure Bleue?
I don't! But I need to!
i'm the same. I don't really go for chypres or oud scents
It's difficult for me too but. I TRY! I prefer modern Chypres.
great review
aliage thanks for the memories is it still available ?looks like brandy yes ?
Yes it's still available. :) It's been reformed but.....still available.
I revisited this review because you said you didn't like chypres. Was this the one that changed your mind?...
You like them now, don't you? 😊😉
Bois de Jasmin has a video on UA-cam showing you how to smell the peach in Mitsouko. 😀
Unfortunately, Mitsouko winds up smelling like peanuts or Play-Do when it dries down so I can't love it like I feel I should.
oh dear!!
Yeah, it smells gorgeous on paper or on other people though. The EDP has way less Play-Do as well so I can wear it. Sometimes.
This Mitsuoko was also Princess Diana's favourite perfume, I read it somewhere ❤️
Thank you for this superb review again @ouch110
Thanks!! :) Princess Diana? Cool! I know she liked Hermes 25 Fauborg too! :)
Princess Diana also loved LA PERLA La Perla EDP (glass bottle with black top) Sooooo difficult to get now - and if you CAN find it....it’s EXPENSIVE!!
Dioressimo was a fave of hers also.
@@ouch110 she also loved Quel Ques Fleur , I believe she wore for her wedding
First de Van Cleef and Arpels was a favourite, I just read her son Harry's book, straight from the horse's mule .. so to speak.
This is unisex right?
It's marketed towards women but I think a guy could easily pull it off. :)
I must have it!!!
What is chypre? : )
It's a style of fragrance that's been around for decades. Usually containing a citrussy top note, labdanum resin in the heart and a mossy/woody base. Chanel no19 is a good example also. :)
That opening before the jingle made me laugh XD x
You should smell the pure perfumé!
Oooho!
Jean Harlows favorite!
Oooooh!
And now your nose have changed, now you enjoy chypre 😎
Tom! Your name is Tom….! 😊 finally…..
😁
It doesn't mean mystery... that was marketing!! 🤣
