I miss flash in tattoo shops. Everyone has taken down flash in tattoo shops for a more clean, modern look. I'm glad he keeps it alive.
Some of my favorite tattoos I picked off a wall of flash because I just felt like getting tattooed. There's something to be said about the spontaneity of it. The bulk of early American tattoos were most likely spontaneous, "I want you to put that one right here." That's how sailors on shore leave and established badasses like my grandpa got tattooed in the early days.
    Respect.

I've been given a small bit of flack for two of my tattoos I got for Frday the 13th. By default they're flash, but that's kinda what I like about them. They're just spontaneous tattoos I got for fun, not meant to be anything symbolic or extravagant. Do I absolutely adore them? I'd be lying if I said I did, but I still love 'em and would certainly get more flash tattoos for the sake of getting a tattoo

In ten minutes Myke introduces an artistic genre, traces it roots, and gives incredibly nuanced takes on how to both honor tradition while also acknowledging that art must and will evolve. Totally dude I'm doing the same thing but with color instead. I lean more towards neo traditional but the first tattoo I got is very traditional. Like you said too there are so many really distinct styles that are still traditional inspired I really like when I can see a tattoo and know exactly who did it because their style is so unique. When I look at my tattoos I think of that artist and that experience like maybe I really got along with them or how impressed I was with them. Its definitely a fun way to look at getting tattooed.

Part of a page showed me happy while a different part showed me depressed and you could literally see the transition.

decided to get a whole sleve done in traditional. I was worried if I made the right decision at first. of course I loved them, but I didn't want to grow old with tacky tattoos. like he said in the beginning, most tattoo artists blow off traditional as beginner and easy stuff. so I was worried I was getting "kid" tattoos. but I'm so glad I went with that style. it pops so much, looks timeless (when done right) and like he said, it's a style that ages like fine wine.

Let me tell you, everything this man says is gold. Traditional is made or broken by an artists application of straight even lines, and how saturated and bold your black is. First thing I notice when I look at someone's traditional piece is how smooth your lines are because I've seen some stuff that arrogant artists try to pass as traditional and there's like three different line weights on the outer outline. Hell yeah the color saturation is on point but *points out the weak ass line work* WHAT ARE THOOOOOOOSE

I loved this interview. He's so well spoken and I was surprised at how much he focused on how he *loved* traditional tattooing versus the stereotypical "BOLD WILL HOLD" bro. You can tell he has no time or energy for petty bullshit and wants to focus on the shit that matters. It was a real treat being able to watch such a lovely person get interviewed.

8:00 i think a big thing here is that there is a difference between inspiration/interpolation and copy paste/ reusing designs. I see a lot of art get stolen in the tattoo community and theres a lot of discourse about whether its a big deal or not and i think thats where this distinction becomes increasingly important.

It’s funny a lot of my tattoos are traditional adjacent and ppl tell me I’m too pretty for such “harsh” tattoos but I love the look with my own modern twist here and there and it keeps my tattoos simple clean and lasting with easily readable line work and I’m always happy with my work 🖤
