In an interview, Zwai talked about how he was the 1st Black boy at the Drakensberg boys choir school and he was bullied so hard, parents pulled their children out of the school and at one point he told his dad (who was very sick and lying on his death bed) ukuthi he wanted to leave the school, but his father instructed him to stay on, and be the key that would open the door for Loyiso and other Black boys to get into that school. That is A LOT for a child to deal with. Zwai is a REVOLUTIONARY, he was in the trenches fighting and it's clear he has PTSD. He's angry that his mother never saw his wounds, she enjoyed the benefits but failed to mother him.
Granted uMama and Mr Bala separated in 1982, and then he died in 1988. At which point she got married to Phelo's father but the marriage failed within a year (circa 1991). She married Tata Jafta in 2018...30 years after Zwai's father's passing. The big beef is the fact that they got married 3 months after Tata Jafta's wife passed on; the speed and secrecy are the problem! I think the marriage triggered Zwai, he feels like his mother is more bothered about her things; she failed to look after them when they were young (and I'm not talking money, I'm talking emotional support...did she know Zwai was being bullied at school, and how did she encourage him to overcome the challenges?).
Also, marriage is between families, and the elders are supposed to guide the young. uMama got married quietly and without involving the family and now she wants the children to just blend and play happy families. Marriages are already a problem in the family as evidenced by the fact that 3 children are divorced. Phelo did not even invite all his siblings to his wedding. uMama is not even taking into consideration that Tat Jafta's children feel a certain way about the way their father remarried so quickly. Mam Veronica better be careful cause Tat Jafta's children may well light into her.

My son went to Drakensberg at an early age, it was tough. I had to fight for him as a single parent and I think I did a good job, (my take and my experience,presence of parent/parents was important.).
I really dont understand the hate on Zwai. If you have never be put in the situation where it seems like their mother always chooses a new man over her kids, gets married without telling them, stays with a man in their family's house then is still being supported because Mr Jafta brings nothing to the table. There's one thing I learn in life is full of lessons and their mother went through a lot with their father. They need to support her and accept her new husband because she is now happy 😊 They need to enjoy life with their mother and not regret it if she is no more even if utatu Jafta is another mistake she's making.

The marriage was wrong from the start, how can one get married after three months of a partner’s passing. Umama ka Zwai don’t want to listen to reason. As bad as this may look and sound... Is everyone willing to come to a point of acceptance because everyone in life does need to live their lives to the fullest and Mom has ran out of jobs but she's still in their lives... It's unfair to say that. The child is the father of the man. It sounds like Zwai's mother was kind of absent and Zwai had to fight his battles as well as look after his siblings. His mother enjoyed the benefits of his success but has never tended to his wounds, that is why they have anger issues as evidenced by the tics. In an interview, Zwai talked about how he was the 1st Black boy at the Drakensberg boys choir school and he was bullied so hard, parents pulled their children out of the school and at one point he told his dad (who was very sick and lying on his death) ukuthi he wanted to leave the school, but his father instructed him to stay on and be the key that would open the door for Loyiso and other Black boys to get into that school. That is A LOT for a child to deal with. Zwai is a REVOLUTIONARY, he was in the trenches fighting and it's clear he has PTSD.
