I'm reading william regals autobiography walking a golden mile, and he goes on about these two having a match in 77 so I searched for it and found this. Fantastic stuff, truly years ahead of their time.
Not really, British wrestling was like this at the time. The wrestlers were allowed to do what they wanted, but the outcome was always pre-decided so they had to stick to that.
5:09 Old Rocco seemed to float upside down when Marty whipped him into the corner. It's like a running, no armed head stand! He seemed to float through the whole spot!
5:09 incredible skill.......no one better than Rocco at aerial stuff. Saw him at Cambridge Corn Exchange circa 1976 where he did a similar, horizontal move thru' the air which saw him come to a halt across the corner of the ropes, laying flat, balancing there after a posting. He could quite literally fly!
Considering his technical brilliance, I love that Rocco never misses the opportunity to give Jones a spiteful little dig. Consummate heel work. No wonder the old dears hated him so much. ….Max Ward’s counts are iconic.
Looks like a real needle match. I don't think there was much fakery here. Say what you like, I would not like to have those drops done to me. Some real flyers there !
Marcia, it's done on purpose. To get the fans going. Whenever the bad guy hits the good guy and he ends up on the canvas, the ref will seem to tell the bad guy off but still counts the good guy on the canvas. The bad guy/the heel, will continue to do this and nothing happens..BUT if the good guy does something similar in revenge the Ref will make a point of telling the good guy off. It's part of wrestling. The ref hardly ever sees a punch from the heel but notices everything the good guy does that is breaking the rules.
@@garryleerob Hi Garry! Really? How do you know that? Do you wrestle? My goodness! So I was right in saying get rid of the referee's they are good for nothing👎👎. Thanks for telling me that, now I have to work out something else for the referee's to finish them out.🤣😅🤣. Bye 👋

I guess I'm just not use to it. Not trashing the match. i thought it was really cool. Other than a few spots it looked like they were really wrestling. Great stuff.
Max Ward had been a wrestler before becoming a referee, and I'm guessing his knees were bad. I've seen him drop to the mat to count a pin, but it doesn't happen often.
I'd never seen this match before. Two legendary wrestlers and a great match. Thanks for sharing.

@@MegaVector2011 what are you on about? Nobody said it's not pre determined. Nobody. So why you arguing against something literally nobody said?
Did you ever find the 77 match?

That referee has a voice like an air rais siren. Him simply saying numbers sounds like the countdown on a self-destruct device.
6:36 was that a GTS?

This is a fun match. I particularly like the old lady shoving Rocco back towards the ring at 07:47!
two hard cases masters of the ring
You would not front these in a hurry tough guys
It seems there was genuine needle between these two....

Max must have been paid NOT to give out warnings in this match
My God! Some of the referees, are useless 😒. 😑 I can't see why Marty is getting told off when the nuisance is BallsRocco

The referee is after. MARTY. Watch him.
the ref not hitting the mat for the pin is confusing.

Nathan Justice To be fair, if Max Ward got down to count a pinfall he'd never get back up again. ;)
