  • Hey friends!
    The future is here and the future is CHROME 🤖 Holo Taco released another new formula today with this One-Coat Chrome collection (or are they just metallics? 👀 lol you decide!) AND they released a new base coat called Quick-Dry Base specifically formulated to work with chrome polishes! I really do think it’s worth getting this base coat if you’re going to pick up some of these chromes, but lmk what you think! You can shop these shades at www.holotaco.com ✨
    I received this collection in PR, but all thoughts & opinions are honest & my own :)

    Does anyone else feel that Holo Taco's colors lean really cool-toned, this collection especially? I liked the warmer tones in the recent coffee themed collection and wish they would include warm tones in each release! Great video as always btw!!

    Thanks for the comparison using a different base coat. I really wish Cristine showed how they performed with her other base coats at least, because I don't really like the idea of polishes that only work with a specific base coat.

      no probelm! I ended up testing it out again with some more basecoats (on my stoties) and they all seemed to apply fine since i didn’t do as many strokes as in the video.. so I do think other basecoats CAN work, you just have to be more patient/careful lol.

    Based on what Cristine said in the launch today, four paint strokes max per nail is what she recommends as the chrome formulation dries faster than other polish finishes for HT. If you keep going back in to apply more polish, the brush will eat into the polish that's drying and you will have a blotchy application.
    She also said someone in the HT group recommended painting the tip of your nail first and then painting the nail so you don't get a weird side line by painting the tip last since it dries quickly. In addition, using a top coat with this one will dull down the chrome finish just a bit. Finally, don't expect this to last as long as a cream polish mani she said.

      @PolishedYogi  Рік тому +3

      thanks! my video was uploading during the launch stream so I wasn't able to include the extra info she mentioned in it :)
      I really don’t think using topcoat dulled the chrome effect of these, but maybe it depends on the topcoat (I used mooncat) - but definitely curious to see how these wear since the topcoat will help prevent any early chipping.

    I think that chrome finish polishes are just difficult to some degree. They are fussy to apply and don't have much longevity on the nail. It looks like Holo Taco has created the best interpretation yet in my opinion, and I know that's hard to do. I don't buy chromes because I just don't have the skills or patience to shell out money for what usually ends up being disappointing to me. But I've
    been very curious about these -- thank you for sharing them, the comparisons, and a couple of different application techniques.

      thanks so much Cat! yeah I do think she did a great job formulating these overall, but they’re still a little too finicky for me (though to be fair I remember saying the same about magnetics and now I love them 🙈) for what it’s worth I don’t think these last any less time than a regular mani chipping after 3-4 days, but I did use topcoat which I think helped a lot. I’m definitely curious to see if this is a line she’ll expand on in the future.. I’m not really sure who was asking for chrome polishes 😅

The brush strokes on satin finishes like this just bug me. I really like the effect when u sponged them on. And I do like the aqua and the violet though. But I don’t think enough to pull the trigger. I don't think this formula is worth the effort+ price. Special base coat, low wear time, difficult application (streaks), chromes have also been done by mainstream brands a ton and this isn't a huge improvement other than the one coat coverage, it still doesn't compare to gel/powder and it looks kinda dull to me when thinking of a chrome finish. Don't want to be too harsh, but this collection looks kinda lame? Good thing the formulas are nice and the brush is wide, so anyone who's into them won't be disappointed. I'm just surprised at the hype about five basic metallic polishes, because lets be honest you can't really achieve a true chrome finish unless you're using powder. Swatchers are surely doing an amazing job with presenting the polishes in a very appealing way, but drugstore brands have long covered this ground and I'd expect way more from an indie/boutique brand.

      I mean, personally I don’t mind releases like this cuz some people want those basic formulas with their fav brands, and new brands need to release boring shades sometimes to build their available polishes. I think these do look a little boring for me as well, though I like the blue and purple, but I’m not complaining, they have an audience and just cuz it’s not for me doesn’t mean it can’t be for other people.
