My friends and I agree it works a lot more as a psychological thriller, as we never found the film particularly scary, but the tension was palpable, but the ending was super rushed. The first hour of the movie I could say is fantastic. Genuinely great but the ending was just felt like a way to rap it up. Lee Harker for me has to be one of my favorite protagonists I’ve seen in a long time and I genuinely would love to see more from that character.

Everyone is insane. This movie just collapses in on itself just as you said. You can tell it was a case of: "QUICK QUICK QUICK! CUT! THEY'LL HOPEFULLY NOT THINK BECAUSE WE ENDED ABRUPTLY!" To be honest I feel like the fact that it actually WAS just Satan all along made it less scary for me. I did love the interpretation of the Bible, but I will always feel like it’s scarier for a character to have secular motives rather than saying “the devil made them do it!”

I had a blanket with me in the theater and I was gripping onto it almost the whole time! The beginning where we see a glimpse of Longlegs face, that got me. I jumped so damn high.
I did not expect to laugh at some of the scenes, that is for sure. The last ending scene was hilarious. I would watch it again. To see more secrets in the background.
I would not say it was the best thing ever. But I would say it was enjoyable.

If it weren't for its Rodger Deakins esc cinematography, eerily slow pacing, and abundance of creativity, Longlegs would've been on par with some of Blumhouse's stinkers. It lost me as soon as Harker circled 3 6's in that cipher code longlegs made, before proceeding to open up her Bible for answers or whatever. Legit after the incredible mystery and atmosphere of part 1 it really just fell so flat as soon as it was revealed that it was literally just satanists doing satan things. I read an interview afterwards and honestly lost all my respect for this film, as Osgood Parker answered questions like "why did you name him longlegs?" with "We writers just like words" and "You've used devil imagery and satanism before, what inspired you to tackle it again?" with "Devil worship to me is like window dressing, like halloween stuff."

Eerie is the word I use. You could call it scary, but it's something more uncanny or uncomfortable than that. It's an atmospheric scary mostly, the kind that makes you look over your shoulder. The sound design was so good, there's a baby crying sound in the movie that legitimately made me jolt and glance ariund unsure if someone brought a baby to the theater. Being able to hear exactly whefe it was coming from when nothing was there, is exactly what they needed. It's like the Doctor hearing something coming from the orb, but surely that can't be right... right?

6:10 This moment had me screaming "IM NOT INSANE", because I also noticed a LOT of similarities to Cure (my fav horror movie), but in a different regard. I think what makes Cure so horrifying is the feeling like the movie changes your psyche, hypnotises you, makes you ask yourself questions you don't wanna answer, like "would I kill my loved ones if it made me happier". Longlegs leaves a similar feeling, like you're being haunted by the Devil. I think there's even a homage to Cure in Longlegs - a shot of blinking train crossing light with a hypnotising beeping sound.

I tried to avoid the hype for this film, but I did catch the imagery of what turned out to be the doll in black. Well, I immediately made the "Angel Heart" connection (shame, shame if you've never seen it)- and it turned out to be very solid connection- a dog chasing its tail. That said, this is a layered, very worthwhile film that uses misdirection and your own prejudices to disorient you as to what its about. What makes it so brilliant that, upon a rewatch, all the "clues" are there and you can't believe you didn't pick up on them sooner. Most likely, a film that will keep its punch even upon multiple viewings.

Yeah I saw this movie in a very small theater with very few people. We seemed to be unmoved by the events of the movie tbh. By we, I mean the whole audience. The movie was atmospheric which was cool but for me Satan is cliche. I've already overcome the fear of him in real life so suspending my disbelief to feel fear for this being is an uphill battle. I also think Nicolas cages performance was unsettling it didn't really make me feel fear the way I do when I watch silence of the lambs. I guess I have to admit that this movie was more style over substance especially if your like me and want to enjoy a movie before finding more enjoyment picking it apart for all the extra details and this one for me wasn't enough.

Oh the marketing had me INSANELY hyped, for the record I don't do well with horror movies in theaters due to loud noises and a dislike for being startled too much. At times there was a fun creepy atmosphere but awwww.....I really didn't want Harker to be a psychic. Just a detective flick is all. My friends didn't like it aside Blair Underwood's character.
Very happy that your back! Keep your head up Nick!

  • @Eric_01

Dumbest movie I've seen in a year. Longlegs character has minimal screen time, and when it finally shows up, oh, it's just Nick Cage acting like Nick Cage AGAIN. The character would have been far better served by a complete unknown and not oversold when it's just Cage in a wig screaming and overacting like Cage. The agent is the most dry and boring character. I'm not saying badly executed, this is not a slight on the actress. She was cast to play the most boring person on the planet and she executed it very well. There is no mystery to the entire script. The reveal at the end just comes out of nowhere and the audience is never teased with any possibilities throughout the film. It's just, weird guy, birthdays, and spoiler happens. This movie is WAY overhyped and I would absolutely just wait until it's free on streaming. Don't waste your money.

This video proves that a horror movie doesn't necessarily have to be scary to be an absolutely amazing movie. I haven't seen this movie yet, but I have seen horror films that are perfect examples. There's this Tubi original movie called dark web murder show that wasn't really scary, but it was such a fun watch.

Is it the greatest and scariest horror thriller of all time? No, not at all. Was it one of my favorite horror thrillers of all time? Yes. You must set your expectations when watching this movie. The promotions and marketing was top tier, but I wouldn't expect it to be the scariest or best horror movie out there. It was an amazingly fun movie to watch, especially with Nic Cage and Maika Monroe. Cinematography was this movie's strong point. Very satisfying movie, don't take it too seriously and you'll love it much more than you think.

  • @mellowando
    @mellowando Місяць тому

For me, Longlegs was definitely a good horror film. It is best to avoid the marketing as some of it says "it's the scariest film of the decade" when that is certainly not true.
With that statement out there and plastered on all the promos and teasers leading up to the release, there was huge amount of hype for this film as people were expecting something
    really terrifying.
But it's not that. It has a very long sense of dread and imagery that make it go under my skin and be there for days. After watching it the first time, I already wanna rewatch it again. It is interesting to see how it all unfolds. While some people will agree that this film is not that great, I for one believe this film has been one of my favorite horror films of this year.
It adds something that I mainly don't see in horror films and I am glad to see it here, and I am definitely buying it on 4K Blu-Ray when it comes out.
    8/10
