Testing NEW Old Town ePDL! Electric Assist Pedal Kayak
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 лип 2024
- Old Town has dropped a brand new kayak. The all new ePDL is an electric assist pedal drive built on a customized, prewired Old Town Big Water hull design. The new drive will assist you as you pedal, reducing the effort necessary to move your kayak across the water. In addition it allows you to go full electric and move without pedaling, like an autopilot!
The new hull design includes a ton of space and is wired for you AND includes a battery!
Let us know in the comments what you think about it!

As an ebike owner this is exactly what I am looking for in a kayak. I love the combination of a workout with the speed of a motor.
Looks great, but I think if you're fishing with it, if you have a motor, you'd like it to lock you in place. I think a trolling motor is better for my needs, but if you're on a big lake or saltwater, and only need assistance in getting around, a great idea.
I like it…but that titan x looks amazing.
We will film that tomorrow
Old Town is great- I had a touring kayak of theirs in Northern California. Great company!
That was a great video and the kayak was awesome. Pricey, but awesome. Thanks for sharing! Enjoyed watching this. As always, #AggressivelyAverageAnglers rocks!!!
I'd love to try one of these out one day
Did not expect that high of a price. Will stick with the 120 pdl 😅
$2k more then the original bigwater 132 pdl for a motor drive and lithium battery sounds about right tbh. Especially considering a Hobie drive cost damn near 1k so they gotta make a little profit but. I would just buy the motor and lithium separate and put it in an older big water 132pdl if u had it.
@@SouthJerseyBaitReviews ya it seems spot on but it crushed my dreams a little. I will stick to pedaling for now. Plus never like to buy the first edition, always improvements made after feedback from users
@@casencazel5930 haha yea I feel ya and I agree on not buying things that just came out.
@@SouthJerseyBaitReviewsYou can’t do that. They will not sell just the Edrive. They claim it fits but not wiring or kill switch. Lol. Like thats hard to do. Lame excuse. Just about anybody could wire this. I know I could with ease.
I guess what I don't understand is what the difference is between having an "assist" like this, and just calling it a trolling motor...?
It helps you pedal so you’re using a lot less battery life. Plus the same motor can be used as pedal only
@@paulglass7268 I guess it makes sense if the benefit that they're selling is battery life + portability as compared to a trolling motor.
Am sticking with spot lock all day.
Happy for this, setting a new standard for the market. Here’s to hoping for some trickle down economics
That is awesome 👍
I really does look bad ass but damn, $6,000! I know, you get what you pay for it but that's a pretty big hit for about 90% of us lol. If some rich relative I don't know about kicks the bucket and I come into some free cash maybe I'll pick one up lol
Think AAA is getting new kayaks this next year!
Old Town in a New Town. love it
Can you do the cruise feature on the settings one through four or can you only cruise at setting 5
Cruise starts at 5
@@aaanglers thank you for you're response
First timer. Really enjoyed your video. Maybe a dumb question but... Can you pedal without using any of the battery? Petal only, petal assist and full cruise control?
You can pedal without the battery yes
That 36V Battery - 20 Amp in that Kayak ... Is to small for a 2 dayer trip, with out charging , wish that they had a more Amp battery ... But at the speed your use to.... on this e-drive that would be a 2 or 3 , you could be in the sweet zone., for using watts and might get a good range, would be nice if it was bigger at least 40 Amp ... For a quality Battery check out MillerTech Lithium Batteries .I run four of there batteries , ( two in series for 120 Amps for each motor ), On my Tri-Cat 360 uses MillerTech's 36V - 60 Amp Lithium Battery . Those feed the Newports NK300 's, i run a Twin Drive. To bad you can't buy that new Kayak without the battery and add your own.
As a Predator/Big Water owner I am trying now to figure out how to get the funds and convince the wife that I need a new one. 🤨
Super cool, what's the weight with battery & cost??
6k cost, boat is 145 lbs
Will this be compatible with non electric assist pdl kayaks? Like could I replace my normal pdl drive with this one?
No it will not…
Ole Town for the win it's a going too be a game changer
You might as well buy a boat at that price.
How do you charge the battery? Is there an external port, or do you got to open it up and charge it directly.
Good question, there’s an eternal battery you pull out and charge
External battery charge
Pretty sweet but give me trolling motor with spot lock.
It goes to level 6 right? You left on 5 you gotta go back and test it again a full speed
this is great. would be able to get on the water with that. But that really high price on my disability salary could never afford it.Please make it less expensive
Is the battery swappable? It would be awesome if you could carry a extra charged battery for large lakes
I don’t think so
That kayak looks great!! The big question is: Does it need to be registered in states that require it, like kayaks with trolling motors?
Yes
@@johnkieffer4525 That's what I was thinking would be the case, but since it's also a manually peddle driven boat too, it made it a sort of gray-ish area.
It can be used purely on a motorized setting, so id say yes
And you know the states want our money
@@aaanglers That definitely makes sense! That cruise control feature does make it so you are no longer peddling it!
Can you engage cruise at lower speeds or levels?
Not that I know of
What is the range on a full charge? Is the battery removable?
It'll last a long time, not sure exactly how long. Battery is specific to the drive, and replaceable.
@@aaanglers thank
No spot lock?
Not fully a motor. You are the spot lock lol
it's a pedal drive, not a trolling motor
Y the hell do they still have the top water ? Figure with the sports men the top water would be less $$$ a d lower level kayak . (Been bugging me )
No live podcast to night
Sorry!
Would be cool if it had a mode to pedal to charge the battery.
Shiiii! Nice design but has no gps position lock , you cant control precise speed , for example when you want to troll for kokanee at 1-1.5 mph, no blue tooth connection ..... i guess next tear upgrades ... will wait , also ur welcome old town for ideas! Micro speed adjustment ..... get working on it. And you might just get my money.
$6,000
Wait till my dad hears about this…
Nice boat. Nice but extremely overpriced. They say it comes with the battery but believe me you are paying for it at 6K. You can get a decent battery thru LiTime for about $350. It probably better to go with the Autopiot 120 for about.$4,350. And that has spot-lock.
For sure!
But no spot lock ???????
Nope…
@@aaanglers BOOOOOOOOOO
@CheekyChops710 😂 don’t blame me, I didn’t make it
I swear electric is so awesome but damn people are getting lazier and lazier.
20 amp hour battery is only $69.00 . I have 136 spot lock . I would pay $6000 for it but not that Kiyak. Thanks for your time
It’s a 36v battery, you’re not finding that for cheap.
Just sell me the drive I'll do the wiring myself
