Nice one Si. Glad you found the source of the problem. Hopefully the fish will start to recover quickly. I've had issues with mouth rot. Had Nitrite issue. Seems my filter was running too fast. Always something mate.
Fantastic upgrade on the moving bed si buddy 💯 sorry about the tancho matey now you'll never have that issue again tho carnt beleave all that crap si but then again your not gonna know unless you look sound job on for getting to the bottom of it and once again mint upgrade you've done 👍😎🐟
It's great you've found your problem and i thought same, with a moving bed. but i clean my outer nexus every 2 weeks due to this not being the case of them being self cleaning
So pleased you’ve found the source of the problem, let’s hope you thrive now for the rest of the season and more, you deserve it. Sorry to see you lost the tancho but onwards & upwards mate. 😎👍🏻
Glad you found it, guess your pump would of been struggling too? I have found its best to make moving bed outlets as long as possible to spread the suction over a bigger area (like you have done by adding the mesh base) and have the outlets vertical, that way the air and media always clear the outlet. 👍
Thanks Garry, I never really noticed if the flow was struggling because my returns are under the surface, they certainly won't struggle again with the mesh divider 👍
Very stressful, thanks for sharing. Going through the same thing at the moment with bacterial problems. About to try a third antibiotic tomorrow. One thing that I should have done earlier was remove the impacted fish earlier into the paddling pool. Much easier to catch and treat them. I also think Virkon has played a part in reducing the spread of the bacteria problems to other fish and prior to using it I was seeing the injection point becoming infected. Couple of mine have started to show signs of improvement, so fingers crossed you get the same.
Mind blowing!!! Glad you seem to have found the root cause of your issues👍. Can you imagine how many people will be checking their moving beds after watching this (including me……just in case)😳. Hopefully things will improve now🤞🤞🤞
I found this with my bio chamber. When ever I flush the bottom drains. I turn off the pumps and turn of the return lines, just so the air pump can circulate and remove all the k1 that have been stuck to the outlet
Hi mate, after seeing your video and going through all the same stuff has loads of us have, I have to admit I have not read all these comments but I'm just gonna go ahead and mention it incase it's been overlooked so far. Have you checked your aerated bottom drain dome lid for build up? I can tell you from experience tht they can hold some serious ugly smelly bacteria, if you have already checked it then fair play, if you haven't checked yet then do so before being 100% sure you have found the problem area. Good luck mate
Hi Andrew. Yes when I went in the pond last summer the bottom drain lid was removed for cleaning but mainly to adjust the gap. The issue must have been harbouring before then as the moving bed itself has never been touched hence why all the dirt was found in the bottom of it due to the K1. Now obviously I can't be 100% certain this was the absolute cause, and not a fish introduction, but having all that dirt in there just sat certainly would have contributed if it was indeed not the underlying factor. However what I will say is since it was cleaned and altered, the system "smells" fresher and the fish certainly seem better for it. So the battle now is to rid the fish of the harmful bacteria that has attacked them and reduce the overall aeromonas levels that had built up in the pond🤞👍 Thanks for commenting and offering the suggestion👍💯
Hi Simon, I have the same mb as you, I found that k1 started to clog the outlet tube, so I switched to helix 13, expensive but I haven't had a problem since .a.t.b nigel
Helx-13 is definitely better media it browns up quicker in spring too but like you say it's expensive and it's not advisable to mix them although some people do you just get a bit of an uneven boil but then you still have k1 problems !
Glad you found the source Si 👌🏼, hopefully onwards and upwards now, you've had enough shit with this issue now, hopefully you can get back to enjoying the hobby now
Well Done Simon for finding the issue, it's far too easy for people to think it's a fish or a dealer when sometimes it's the Keeper, you highlighting your source will hopefully incurrage others to keep looking. Hope your other fish react to the treatments and you can get back to what you love. Well done 👏
Glad you have found the problem Simon. Don't beat yourself up about not finding the problem sooner. A bad koi keeper would have never found such a hidden away problem. Hope the koi recover now 🙏
Don’t beat yourself up Si, if anything it’s a design failure of the bio filter that let you down. I’ve got a synergy combi drum and the shelf you just made is part of the design of the synergy, however, I still remove the media twice a year and flush it out because you will still get fine sediment settling on the floor. Onwards and upwards 👆have a great summer
Don't kick yourself Si your not to blame hopefully you will now get it sorted, sorry that you lost the Tancho it was a lively fish. Onwards and upwards mate 👍👍💯💯
Disgusted with yourself? Behave! I know how much you care for those koi and the efforts you go to to keep them tip top! Just one of those things, you live and learn. Your a top lad so chin up buddy 👍🏼
Simon I was writing whilst watching to say make a shelf 😂 but quality idea and exactly what i would’ve done 👍🏻 Big learning curve that but never happen again . Onwards & Upwards 🤞🏻 🙏🏻 Simon do you use any conditioners that help improve sick koi (Pond Detox Formula) optimises health & neutralises pollutants and many other things Just A Thought 🤷🏻
Thanks Simon, no I haven't used any of those products. I had thought about putting some Nijo Lacto through the system just to break anything remaining down👍
Thanks Daz, I think part of the problem with the chamber itself is the media sits in more of a Column rather than spread out over a larger area due to it being a square design so media is encouraged downwards. Hopefully it won't happen again now the screen has been put in👍
Sorry about the problems mate. Thanks very much much for the video.
Good advice there sir, hope thing go the right way now, cheers Terry,,
Thanks Terry 👍
Don't be to hard on yourself, live and learn. Thanks for sharing, others including myself are now more aware because of your video
Thanks james👍

Thanks Phil, it's a problem resolved so things can only improve👍
Careful that mesh doesnt rust mate. Glad you found the problem
It's made of stainless steel Bobby 👍
@@UpNorthKoiPond it'll still probably rust over time if it's not food grade bud
@@bobbyknox9258 should be OK as it's 304, certainly won't be rusting in the Chambers lifetime.
