The Daily Ride - Replacing the rear axle on my 2006 Honda Foreman

  • I've had to become my own mechanic since my 4 wheelers always needed something fixed. I'm not a mechanic but wth the help of You Tube videos I have gotten the courage to make necessary repairs. I forgot to record the brake panel and bearings going back together but that part is well covered by other YT videos.

    Matthew,
    Thank you. I do understand your concerns. I made the video on the spur of the moment because I couldn't find a YT video that addressed my problem. As I mentioned several times I'm obviously not a mechanic but was doing the best I could with what I had. I did direct people to another YT channel run by a real mechanic and a very good one at that. He has many videos up that cover some parts of a rear axle replacement but not on a Foreman. This video was meant to show people that a non-mechanic could do it and that it wasn't a hard job. If someone else makes a good video that covers all the steps I'll take this one down.

      I wouldn't take it down, maybe add a UA-cam Annotation to the video that explains how you figured out which seal goes where.

  • @josephblair9731
    @josephblair9731 4 роки тому +1

    How do you get the bearing out of the housing? Im trying to replace my bearings in my rear end because i have rear end fluid leaking onto my left rear tire

    • @rickparker8883
      @rickparker8883  4 роки тому +1

      I take the axle housing off and knock them out from inside. There is a tool you can get that is made to pull them out.

    so are the propane tanks under your workbench plan 2 when plan 1 fix the quad doesn't work

    • @rickparker8883
      @rickparker8883  5 років тому +2

      I had even noticed those tanks. I guess my son in law threw them there. Since this video was made we have pretty much finished the barn and moved the work table inside where we are out of the sun and rain. Plan 2 might be a plan someday! LOL! I got a 2018 Rubicon and given the Foreman to one of my sons. We just finished putting a rear disc brake setup on it which is a huge improvement.

    I shouldn’t have been rude and I do apologize for that but most people look to UA-cam for a little help with what they are working on and it’s aggravating to watch something that doesn’t help at all. It makes me think I could have been working on what ever it is instead of watching UA-cam and I’d be closer to finishing the project

      I didn't use a torque wrench but I cranked it down hard. I've had to replace these bearings every 6 months or so for years. My hope was that a new axle would solve the problem. I'm sorry to say it hasn't so I've replaced the OEM brakes with an add on set of disc brakes. That got rid of the brake drum cover which always leaked and was full of mud. Time will tell if this works.

    My foreman rear tires aren’t spinning. Wonder if this is the issue

    • @rickparker8883
      @rickparker8883  5 років тому +1

      It could be the splines on your axle are gone or possibly the whole rear end is shot. Start pulling it apart and see what you find.

  • @johnlocklear9093
    @johnlocklear9093 6 років тому

    My 420 rancher is making a popping noise from the rear end. And it kind of sits higher on one side than the other. I'm thinking one of my axel bearings is busted or maybe the axel itself???

    • @rickparker8883
      @rickparker8883  6 років тому +1

      As I said, I'm not a mechanic but that would be my guess as well. Sounds like it's crushed.

      @charlesgunzelman3323 5 років тому

      @@johnlocklear9093 It could really be anything. Axle bearings, ring gear, pinion gear. My money would be on the gear. This is usually caused by water getting into the rear axle housing and causing the hypoind gear lube to fail. You should be changing that fluid often if you go through water.

      You have my admiration or sympathy! Lol! That's a big job. I love my old Foreman but admit that I just bought a 2018 Rubicon. I was spending too much time repairing it and had gotten to the point that I didn't ride without another ATV along to pull me home if need be. They are great ATV's ion my opinion.

      Considering that the video is over 2years old and it’s still running fine I’d say I remembered! I passed that on to one of my sons who rides it daily..it has gone through another set of bearings but otherwise runs great. I bought anew Rubicon which I love.
