I installed the exact same bar last week and if you just take a sandpaper and remove just enough of the little dots it will fit perfectly
only took me about 15 minutes extra with the protapers. used a carbide burr to clearance the lock ring inside the switchpack, and the grip slid on with a rubber mallet

Discovered all this 2 days ago when installing my Pastrana bend Pro Taper Bars! I used a file to shave out the inner edge of the ring and then some sandpaper to sand down the knurling and then like you guys a rubber mallet to get it on. Process was about 3 hours but hey if you are seasoned with Sur Ron you will know this is part and parcel 😊

Great video, I ordered Pro Taper Woods High bends (on backorder) and think I'll wait until they have aftermarket throttle assemblies in stock before I install with the new grips. Great seeing this, knowing what I'm getting myself into rather than halfway through realizing how much of a headache it will all be.
The first time we did this it was EXTREMELY frustrating! A simple 30 minute job took hours!

Your video inspired me to swap the handle bars on my Ultra. I have had a pair of ProTapers (Adventure High) for years. I had planned on doing a swap on a previous ride but never got around to it and sold that bike. That might explain that my bars didn't have the knurled part on the left. So the swap went relatively easy since the both "rings" slid right on. The bars are TALL, I have long legs. I ran into trouble when I went to hook up the rear brake. The hose is way too short. Now begins the Adventure of getting a longer hose made.
Wish I saw this vid a month ago. Haha I just ditched the ring and kept the oem grip on the other side new grip on left side, i did it in my trailer out riding one day, haha

Thanks for the experimenting.. Although I would think you need to hone out the inside of the ring. Also, you missed adding bark busters! I want to see how fun that would be to add! Haha
Pro taper acf bars work fine
I’ve heard the lite bee throttle tube is I interchangeable with the ultra bee. That would make it much easier for the grip situation.

Great tips - would be good to see it taken to next step of adding in some wrap around lever protection with something like BarkBuster style guards, I'd normally run them on most bar mods I do for the extra protection of those controls. Seeing enough videos of stacks by riders dropping their bikes directly onto throttle tubes and its not a lot of fun trying to ride with a broken or absent lever.
All of the Ultra Bees we raced at RedBull TKO had wrap around full hand guards for those exact reasons. High chance of breaking levers and throttle in hard enduro....and fingers! We ran these on our bikes: chargedcycleworks.com/products/acerbis-x-factory-handguards
Any updates on the throttle tube issue? I’d imagine people are needing new grips by this time
This makes me laugh watchin these guys 😂 and they build bikes good god lmao it literally took me 10 min tops grab some sand paper and before putting bars on spin in your hand on the textured side lol and everything slides on in minutes 😂 mountains out of mole hills
Sur Ron May have different designs for their controls. I did the pro taper contours a few weeks ago and it took some wiggling, but the controls slid on eventually without cutting/ burring. I also did not see any metal ring inside the controls, it looked like a plastic/ delrin ring.

Fun with grips and handlebars.....I noticed that the brake lines on my ultra bee are pretty tight....I'm wondering if you had to extend any lines? Thanks guys!
They are very tight, but even with the tallest Pastrana FMX bend bars there is enough line but just barely. After trying many bends on the Ultra our favorite is the KTM bend, or if you are a tall person the modern Honda bend which is simply a taller KTM bend. We're stocked up on the ODI bars if you need em!
I'm sure Odi bars will shave some weight off the front end also. I'm really liking the ultra bee....I can't wait to see it in full carbon black!!@@ChargedCycleWorks
Which oem bars on the website would be best to use on the ultra bee.. on the link it takes you to the bars but various options to choose from
Definitely get ODI for the Ultra Bee, they are easier to install. The height of the bar is listed in the bend variant and it depends on your height and how tall of a bar you like. We recommend the KTM bend for most people, but if you are tall go for the Honda bend which is about 1/2" taller than the KTM.
Could you have sanded down some of the knarling to make it easier to go on?
That would probably work, just hard to keep it even on a round surface but it would probably work for another option
