I have seen LTT do a custom built USB-C cable, as well as PC cables, just today, and they said that you could do USB-C to USB-C cable as well, although they were focusing on a 2.0 cable, and I was wondering if you have made a C to C cable, and if you have used it, and also if you are proficient in it? I'm looking for a video on that specifically, to find what is needed, and maybe try it myself, but can only find videos about A to C cables, unless they are the aviator style, then there might be some...
The YT algorithm is a good boi....I just got into the rabbit hole of making my own keyboards, to have something to do while, y’know, the ˋrona is going on outside and I am stuck inside. So I have soldered a bunch of keyboards and started looking for something else to do. And right then I got this is my recommendations. This turns out to be a very promising new rabbit hole to dive into and I thank you for this, from the bottom of my heart. It is neat projects like this that help me stay sane amidst all the insanity that’s been going on.
Thanks for creating these videos! This has inspired me to create my own cables! I got burnt from an IG cable guy promising me to make my cable 8 weeks ago but never made it and kept my money. I ended up having to go through a dispute process but I'm glad you make these videos as I can now learn how to make my own!
Yeah, I got into cable making myself since I thought it would be a good idea to get my own cables done faster. It's defintely a great hobby if you get into it.
I just finished watching this and most of your other videos. Thanks for the great guides! Where do you buy your heat shrink(US)? I've been looking all over for a purple/lavender 1/2" without labeling down the length of it. What about the 1/8" shimmer tech flex? Would you consider making a tutorial for sleeving cables with transitioning colors of paracord?
I recommend getting the coil to come out good first. You can always rewind it and heat again. typically if you reverse and do what you did before, it will still come out quite uneven.
If I want to create a custom USB C cable for my keyboard can it also charge my phone and do data transfer? Is it limited to USB 2.0 speeds? Thanks a lot!
Just yesterday I made my first 2 cables with aviator connectors. I did struggle a lot with choosing my sleeving colors. I f'd up my desired asthetic. Should've swapped my paracord and tech flex. Would've loved if that video was up before I ordered a few weeks ago 😭 Mdpc sleeving is basically not see trough fyi. Also I'm putting in coils soon.. But for the size of coil I wanted o ordered waaaay to short of a cable
May sound like a stupid question but aren't those cables kinda universal? They are referred to as specifically designed for keyboards but can't you like hook other stuff to it, like your smartphone, camera, dunno, it should still work fine, shouldn't it?
love the video, just wondering if my custom coil aviator cable isn't long enough to reach my computer, can I just add the usb extension 1-2m? (since going with standard short size cuts the weight time, and I only want to display the front part of the cable)
Amazing video as usual!! btw I have a question about the Techflex. From where I"m from the 1/8" diameter one is near impossible to find; have you tried 1/4" one? cuz that's the only one I could find
Hey ! I wanted to change my cable from my old logitech mechanical keyboard and the cable avec 5 cable inside... 1 red 1 green, 1 white and 2 black... Found documentation on the "id" pin but I have no idea about what it is... Do I need it to connect the RGB or for the software of the keyboard ? Thx ! :D
My keyboard has a 5-pin header. The pins are labeled as VCC GND D+ D- SG. I'm curious to know what kind of PCB board I can use as most don't have the SG space. I appreciate the help.
hey man, why are most keeb cables 2.0 and not 3.0? just wondering. i spent most of my budget on the keeb itself, what would you recommend for someone that needs a usb c to usb a? i don't need coils, but would like to have them. thanks!!!
Oddly enough, no one's mentioning these coils actual having a certain function. Just like them on wired phones, they let you gain wire length and not be wrapped in excessive wire when it's not in use. May even be beneficial for your desktop organisation as well.
Just stumbled upon your channel and insta subbed. Two cents of my suggestions though: Music is a little too loud to understand you, i.e. at 5:00. Also, if you use timestamps you could use youtubes "new" feature to show those segments in the video. Afaik all you have to do is put the timestamp before the description but I am not a content creator, just a critical viewer ;) Thanks for your guides!
Hi - can someone help me understand what is this for? My newphew’s been asking me to buy this but cant understand what the use is hehe. Thanks for anyone who’ll answer.
brilliant video! i have a few questions i hope you can take the time to answer. - how do you do multiple colours on the coiled cable? - speaking of different connectors, instead of using aviator connectors? can the jack used for electric guitars work as a connector too? thanks!
Do you mean a 1/4-in plug or an XLR connector? XLR should work but a 1/4-in plug won't have enough contacts (number of distinct conductors) to handle USB tx/rx and power (four contacts).
How do you make a multi-colored paracord clean without noticing the cuts or the transition from one color to another color? Like 3 or more colors of sleeves?
I made a coiled cable with GX16 conector, 28awg wires and my cable do not transfer data from my phone but it works perfectly in my keyboard, do you have any idea why this is happening?
where do you get the actual cable???? PLEASE SHOW HOW YOU CUT, SOLDER, CONNECT THE CABLE... ARE YOU USING BRAIDED CABLE SLEEVE? OR THE CABLE IS ALREADY THE WAY IT IS?
Thanks for making these. I'm planning on making my own custom cables, but how should I test a fresh cable before using it? Can a faulty cable potentially damage my keyboard's pcb?
you can use a multimeter to test that all the connections are correct. the chances of damaging a pcb with a faulty cable using a usb cable and a standard usb port are relatatively slim, but it's not impossible.
Just saying, coiled cables exist because they can extend to a desired length and retract back when not in use- for keyboards they don't really serve any purpose but for things like headphones they're pretty nifty
@@20vK Talking about 1 cable that has 2 24 gauge wires for power and 2 28 gauge wires for data, as described in the video. Advantage in theory would be that itd be slightly slimmer. But ill probably just get 24 since thats easy to get ahold of.

I think my custom cable fried my keyboard, i unplugged the 2 parts of the cable and my keyboard won’t turn on anymore at all, I even tried different cables and different devices
I wanted to make one. So I ordered a simple usb c to usb 3.0 cable online.... it is meant for smartphone charging but I wanted to use it as a keyboard cable. But it doesn't work?! Do I have to buy a special cable or what? Pls help
Hello there - thanks for this great in-depth video. I'm looking to custom an orange-yellow cable and I found the Paracord with this colour but not the PET sleeve. Is the PET necessary because I figured any other colour on top of it would dampen the vibrant Paracord colour. Thanks!!
The heat shrink bothers me. It isn't the best strain relief for the cable. It should be replaced with an overloaded strain relief, but I am assuming the reason why it isn't is because this is very low volume; therefore, it isn't cost efficient. But if a legit manufacture just put heat shrink, then I would be bothered.

Please, do a reverse coil tutorial
There are videos on it. Coil it like he does. then reverse it over the dowel. only this time do not use heat.
Hi. Is making custom cables actually profitable in a way to be your main money source, or is it just a cool hobby?
Thanks so much for this video, needed this.
1 suggestion for the video would be to lower the music or increase your voice volume.
yeah, my fault. had some new mic settings didn't realize the mic would be so quiet. will fix for next vid!
Hey loveyour videos actually finished my first coil, after seeing your video. Came out great, do you recommend reversing the coil to tighten areas up?
I recommend getting the coil to come out good first. You can always rewind it and heat again. typically if you reverse and do what you did before, it will still come out quite uneven.
FYI: The coils carried over from keyboards back in the 80's. The functionality is simply for cable retraction so not completely useless :)
