    Using Skarsnik Green as the final highlight looks really good! I've never seen that before, but love the result.

    • @Rookie40K
      @Rookie40K 2 роки тому +5

      It does look good. Less Tron like than yellow neon green. Skarsnik looks a lot closer to the old goblin green, which I prefer the look of DA on cover of the old DA veteran squad box art, likely hl with goblin green.

      I thought moot green would be too much like salamanders. Skarsnik just seemed right to me. Glad you liked it 😄

      If you use Moot green then it becomes necessary to do an 8 part contrast medium to 1 part dark angels contrast paint as an all over glaze to both mute the Moot green and bend all the highlights together...otherwise you will live in tron neon green. Just remember the glaze should look mostly congrats medium with a hint of green and you can do more than one coat...DA contrast paint is very strong.

      I'm glad my tutorial has helped
      When it comes to highlighting, it really is just time and practice. I once spent 4 months just highlighting Space Marines which helped massively.
      Having a brush your comfortable and confident using is important, doesn't have to be a fancy brush, just one you can vibe with.
      If your struggling to see what your doing, I tend to use a pair of cheap reading glasses or you could get some modeling magnifiers. I found this made a massive difference as my eyesite is terrible anyway
      keep it up, you'll get there

    That's a sharp Dark Angel! Love to see my favorite chapter done well.
    I personally prefer my bolters Khorne Red as I learned mainly by watching Duncan Rhodes, however that bright red certainly makes him pop out. It's almost something you'd on a 90s 'Eavy Metal paintjob. And that's not a bad thing at all.

    Beautiful paint job. Thinking of using the armour painting on robes for some Adepta Sororitas.
    I'm new to painting, so would this armour scheme work well for the cloth parts of sisters? Not sure if the armour colouring would look different on cloth parts of a model

    • @TableTopReadyYoutube
      @TableTopReadyYoutube  Рік тому +1

      I am planning on doing the sisters combat patrol box, probably in June if you can wait untill then. in the mean time a lot of my other tutorials I paint robes and cloth
      , especially the Custodes videos to kind of get and idea of how its done. are you wantong to paint green cloth? if so, as a beginner i would start with a mid tone colour. something like Warboss Green and then highlight the rasied folds with Skarsnik Green. If you want to a bone colour, watch my new Ultramarines tutorial to see how i painted the Captains robes, its simple. Ushabti bone and Screaming Skull to highlight

      @TableTopReadyUA-cam Thanks for the reply Michael!
      Excited to see you paint up some sisters.
      For their scheme, I'm looking to try and do a dark green 'necron-esque' colour scheme for them.
      Your dark angels armour looks really good, and I think it'll achieve what I want for the cloth parts of a sister model, with their armour being black

    Huge fan of this. Got my Dark Angels box coming tomorrow. I don't have anywhere near the colours suggested here. But I think I've got a fair few. A question though. I have a white AP spray but I was thinking a black undercoat is best. Is Abadon Black Base colour OK as my first layer?

    • @TableTopReadyYoutube
      @TableTopReadyYoutube  Рік тому

      If that’s what you have then that’s not a problem at all. I think just painting the caliban green first should still be okay. If you do find it too light for your taste just do an all over wash with the nuln oil and layer up with caliban again in place of the recess shade. This will be easier than painting black then caliban 👍🏻

      I use the citadel brushes. It could be the quality, you want a really nice point in the brush that can pint a really thin line basically. Other wise highlighting just takes a lot of practice. You could get some magnifiers or a pie of cheap reading glasses making it easier to see as well

    • @TableTopReadyYoutube
      @TableTopReadyYoutube  Рік тому +1

      It depends. If you just want to try this out on just 1 marine then that would be fine. I would use yellow instead of white by the way. If your planning on painting an army then I would invest in warpstone. It keeps the colour consistent across your whole army and honestly it’s a pain to have to mix paints. A pot of paint for the ease and peace of mind is worth it

    In the olden days of way back when, we would paint creamy robes and boney terminators by working our way from bestial brown over bubonic brown all the way up to bleached bone with an edge highlight of skull. (Mournfang brown, Zamesi desert, Ushabti bone, any white not from Citadel with Screaming Skull as a modern intermediary step)

      Just watched it, what a method! I thought it was some kind of sticky foam because of the spray paint 😅 I’ll have to get one of those scraping tools I use a nail file at the moment but it gives texture sometimes

    • @TableTopReadyYoutube
      @TableTopReadyYoutube  Рік тому

      I use a metal needle file as well. Just depends on how corse it is. The higher number like 600 grit is about right and doesn’t leave too much of a texture

    Alright, I tried this on the tactical marines of the Dark Vengence set...not working too well. Too "mono-pose" and lack of detail. I'm just going to do the 1st chunky highlight on their armor and then follow your steps on the guns. I'll 100% do this to all primaris marines in the future.

    • @TableTopReadyYoutube
      @TableTopReadyYoutube  Рік тому

      I remember those marines. The new primaris are worlds apart easier to paint and highlight. I would do the same and just do the one highlight which is more than enough. You still get to practice your highlight skills as well 💪🏻

      Moot green is very different to skarsnik but mootgreen is what the studio now use to highlight their dark angels. I do plan on updating this tutorial, hopefully by the end of the year if you can wait 👌🏻

    Great tutorial, and I will follow it tomorrow painting my Dark Angels. But I will also troll you for how you painted eye lenses. Those two white spots should not be on the opposite sides, but on the same, left or right. So many people get this wrong. This looks stupid, like squint-eyed helmet:). Maybe such painting has some purpose - so you can see this dot from greater angle, but it's unnatural. Anyway, this is opinion of only one man. This tutorial was a lesson for me. I did not painted many years and such videos helps a lot.

    • @TableTopReadyYoutube
      @TableTopReadyYoutube  Рік тому

      I’m glad you liked the tutorial and it’s helped 😃 when things are done like the eye lenses it more of a graphic style and interpretation. You wouldn’t get highlights on objects like this either. It’s just about what looks good 😋 this is kind of the games workshop style. If you want to do the lenses differently then go for it 💪🏻 I’m just here to show you 1 of the ways it can be done

      Honestly layering up to leave the recesses unpainted is going to take longer. It’s not going to look as good either. But if that’s what the way you prefer then that’s how you should do it.
      I guarantee you’ll end up painting green in those recesses anyway 😋
