    And being Deaf/HH does not equate with being mentally challenged... it is rather insulting to think that Deaf/HH are only capable of working in retail and in factories....

    There is much facility for a deaf to operate CNC lathes. I also worked.

    Hearing impaired is quite inappropriate word, Deaf is.

      no it's not because there is different levels of deafness. I am Hard of hearing. I went to school didn't have an interpreter or have a teacher give me the lecture notes at all but if I dont have my hearing aids then i can't hear or i hear things but not properly and would have to ask for people to repeat themselves to often. A hearing aid or cochlear implant are not perfect devices. Not all deaf people sign because if your parents were hearing they'd want you to be oral(to speak even thought you can't hear how to pronunce things correctly) Some kids are CODA(child of Deaf adult). Captial D-deaf is culturally deaf and small d-deaf is in the mix of both worlds.
