- This is the 7-step method we will be using in this video to solve every chess problem that comes your way:
0- Pre-Existing Conditions to the Position
1- Main idea
2- Candidate Moves (Rapid Fire Brainstorm)
-filter until you find...
3- Find the Move
4- Calculate Main Variations
5- Find and Anticipate a Opponent's Resource
6- Full Solution!
1st - I will practice doing a tough chess problem for the first time live during the recording of this video doing the method step by step and showing you my thought process
2nd - I will put YOU to the test with another chess problem of which it will be your duty to solve this one step by step alongside me answering the steps as we go through

What's your implication?@@sup9563
Great video! I really liked how you first explained the steps, and then gave a puzzle for us to solve at the end! Keep up the good work!
It took me several years to get to my current puzzle rating…wish there were videos out there like this one to help me earlier. Great video as always!
What's your puzzle rating? I'm curious im only 1800 in puzzles
@@rAnDoM.199 I’m 3274 at puzzles and currently trying to hit 3300. I’m only around 1600-1700 at blitz, rapid, and bullet though.
I’m 1500-1600 rapid and I’m k ok only 2200 puzzles
Im 2800 puzzles and 1100 rapid lol
What's the name of the puzzle book?
Really informative tips; I am curious what level this puzzle is! I am amazed how long it takes to solved a puzzle like this, if it were me, I would make so much blunders and my head’s gonna explode lol😂
13:26 What about rook 1. …, R f5;2. Q h4, g5; 3. Q g3, N h5?
That is exactly what I thought. I think it is as good as Bd3.
Personally I just click puzzles again if I don’t know how to do it and I never get them wrong 😭
what do you learn from doing that tho?
@@Frousted I still learn to do puzzles 😭 it just artificially boosts my rating + I get to do harder puzzles
@@TheKarlMarx why would you do harder puzzles if you can't even do the easier ones?
@@Frousted I can do 95% of them but it’s just the 5% that I skip which tend to be unrated ones
@@TheKarlMarxhow do you know they were unrated if you skipped them
Thank you, this is the best guide for solving chess puzzles I've ever seen
at 8:10 before taking the queen with the knight i think i calculated a variation that you maybe didn't see, before taking the queen you could go queen h4 and if they go g2 you just take the queen and keep the knight, if they go f1 queen takes h3 and if they go g1 you could take the queen with check and allows you to trade the knight for the bishop and queen vs rook is winning for black, if after h3 they go e1 you just take the queen and you took an extra pawn for nothing
(feel free to correct me if im wrong, im only 1000 rated so they might be a variation i didn't calculate)
shit, my bad i hadnt watched the whole video and didnt see the correct answer!!!
As a 1500 puzzler and 400 rapid. This is inspiring. I wish i could be that good one day.
I saw the bishop move in like 15sec I'm actually pretty impressed, but I didn't really understand why it just came naturally, I just thought about cutting the bishop from the defense of back rank mate and then when I calculated the variations they all made sense too! Watching Andrew Tang daily really helped me calculate a lot faster!
Love your videos 🙏🏼. You’ve greatly improved my knowledge of the game
I'm a beginner and found this very straight forward in breaking down puzzles. Thank you!
My absolute pleasure. ❤
W EDITING AND CLEARRRRR. normally for newer players, most of their puzzles will have checks or forks or skewers. U wanna look for checks at start
What is the name of the book??
This is awesome..a masterclass in puzzle solving. Great resource to have and practice. Thanks so much 👍
Great job my friend. I learned alot. Thank you so much!
Nice video! I reached 2850 as my peak using similar ideas. By the way, what book are you using?
On the last puzzle, if you move the pawn on h2 to h3 when the bishop goes to d3, you allow the bishop to take your bishop and take with the queen protecting the back rank checkmate
14:09 Black is up a pawn, which you missed😅. I solved Nxf2 after some 3-4 minutes of thought but I calculated ng3+ wayy too much taking time. Fun video!
Good video bro I really love it I learnt so much thanks ❤️
7:41 Rxe2 is a great move.
The biggest problem with almost all chess puzzles is the fact that they are presented as a puzzle implying that there is a definite solution to it which is a trigger to start thinking out of the box. Sadly in real games thats not how it works. If we were to come across this setup in a real game you will almost always not find he mate in N sequence of moves. So a better way to present chess puzzles would be to batch them up in 3 or 4 puzzles and ensure that only one of them has a Mate in N sequence.
Real games also have another chess piece which is the clock/time pressure and the emotions etc like losing elo/gaining elo / blundering a piece /converting a winning position but low on time and so on.
hi, quick question what chess board do u use in ur online chess videos ?
I actually got the main variations right and the move as well even though I'm 1000 in puzzles
Surprisingly the puzzle given to us was much easier than the Caruana-Giri one lol. It’s all about reverse-engineering the entire process after seeing “ok if Re1 then white thinks Bf1 saves the day. Can I do something to prevent that from happening? Block the queen from defending the bishop? Hmm doesn’t work. What about stopping the bishop? An interesting line initially would be Re1 Bf1 and then Bd3?? Nah just Rxd3 and the rooks defend each other…wait a second, can I start with Bd3? Holy hell, I think that’s the answer, mate is threatened, the rooks are disconnected, yo we got em”
Wow yes, I will definitely use this method on 100 elo puzzles!
What kind of puzzles book is this ??
What book is this from? Does not look like the woodpecker method
It's called 300 positions.
Chess tactics from scratch
Great video.😊
that's a great method, thank you! however, i wouldn't write down the steps or my calculations because it's forbidden to take notes during tournaments. also which book is that puzzle from?
I am proud i found puzzle solutions
zach can you make a reti gambit video please

Hi what was that book?
Chess tactics from scratch
More practice creates better pattern recognition.
Why was rf5 not a candidate move at 1700 min
currently 2000 in puzzles, hopefully this will boost it!
What book was that?
300 positions
I think the book is called Chess Tactics from Scratch. The title is the top of the left hand page.
If this is what 2000+ elo puzzles are like, good lord lol
😂😂😂
Mention the book name
Hey Zach
In the first diagram my initial thought was 1 … Bxf3 2 Bxf3 Nd4 3 Qd3 Nxf3 4 Qxf3 Qxb2!! Oh no my queen!!!😋😋😋😋😋
alternative way: use stockfish
Practice makes perfect.
Why not rook to f5? Forgot to cover that
You made it harder

basically consider every move, then calculate every single possible move after each move, and you'll find the solution 😹😹😹😹

eliminate all waste move and then give check mate
By the way ,when you solve puzzle repeatedly you can automatically see thing in match

I'd name chess. Come

Bro i think you will look better with a beard
Wht abt Ne2 after Bd3?
Bcz i dont see anything bad
@@FawazKhan-hi1lg i actually saw this too im gonna stockfish the position and give you the explanation
so ne2 is actually the third top engine move! the main issue of ne2 is that you can just take it (Rxe2,Rxe2,Bxe2,Bxe2,Qxe2 ... black is up a exchange! )
I'm over 1100 rated on puzzles and like 200 on blitz lol by looking for checks, captures and attacks
