  • This special from Borders Television was made to mark the centenary of Britain's entry into the Great War, and was originally broadcast on 4 August 2014. It includes a visit to Field Marshal Haig's home at Bemersyde in the Scottish Borders, where presenter Fiona Armstrong discusses the Field Marshal's time there and his work on behalf of the men who had served under him with military historian George A. Webster, before they visit the Field Marshal's grave, which lies amid the ruins of nearby Dryburgh Abbey. Also featured is the Peace Garden, then in the process of being laid out in the grounds of Bemersyde by the current Earl & Countess Haig. The film also includes a poignant coverage of the visit to France of schoolchildren from the Scottish Borders town of Peebles to trace the graves of ancestors who fell in the Great War.
