This is an updated version of the original video with new games included but also some changes. The reason? Arika, developer of the TGM_series, is VERY strict about how their games are presented and expert Tetris player, Zach Amador, was kind enough to bring this to our attention. The video has been updated with all the necessary changes and now features proper footage captured from original arcade hardware! Sorry for the confusion but we wanted to make sure everything was to the letter!
@@manuel0578 Sure thing! Starting at around 26:28, I've included all new Grand Master footage being played by a super skilled player using real arcade hardware. The game right after that was previously Tetris 4D in the first video but NOW I've also included Capcom's Magical Tetris Challenge (which is gorgeous). I also have new footage for TGM2 and 3 from real arcade hardware AND footage of TGM Ace for Xbox 360 as well. Plus I also made a few tweaks to the presentation here and there fixing a couple flaws in the original and rewrote a couple minor things in there.
the lock delay in cardcaptor sakura tetris is only long because you aren't pressing down to lock the pieces, with the tgm-style sonic drop mechanics you press up to make the piece drop to the bottom of the field, then down to actually lock it. this allows for fluidly moving a joystick from up, to left or right, to down to tuck pieces underneath an overhang
Puyo Puyo Tetris got absolutely snubbed again! Oh DF, this is an excellent video, but I can't help be a little disappointed that one of the most charming and popular titles was consigned to such a short clip in the "Yeah yeah, other 2010s Tetris titles" section.

Puyo Puyo Tetris was also a great game. Not sure why those weren’t important to touch on when not very many people in the west have even heard of Tetris: The Grand Master.
Really just a time issue. I did have 10 minutes to add in Magical Tetris Challenge but, for a lot of the later games, I basically ran out of time. Johhhhhhnnnnn. You're wonderful. I can't believe I originally wrote off the DSi XL. It is the perfect iteraction of my favorite handheld console, possibly my favorite console in general. I got mine used and while the color temperature is slightly off between top and bottom screens, because most games separate the action between screens it is rarely an issue. That specific version you have is the one I got, and the grey they chose for the inside matches the black levels of the Dual IPS screens, which gives games this unexpectedly sleek presentation. I particularly love The World Ends With You's graffiti stylings alongside the two-tone DSi XL casing. It just feels premium in a modern way, which I was really surprised by. Probably more modern than any console we have right now thanks to the mixture of textured matte where you would hold the system and sleek glossy finish where you don't. It's Nintendo's design team at their very best at the height of their success. Hilariously, it was designed as "The DS for businessmen, " but you know what? It works. The large stylus it comes with is surprisingly comfortable, and the internal stylus features a gel tip to make it considerably less prone to scratching. I got it because I was frustrated with how DS games looked on 3DS while doing a run through of Pokemon games in timeline order: (1-3-2-4-5-6-5.2-7) and I am so bewildered that I overlooked it in favor of the basic DSi when my launch had a broken hinge. That one has a serious design flaw where if you set down on a hard surface while the system is on, it turns off as a safety measure. For a while I just kept saving, but because this was right before the 3DS introduced SD memory saves, the games would take a considerable amount of time to save. I actually ended up getting a DS lite because the action replay I picked up for long dead events wouldn't work with the DSi, so I've had experience with each edition. It's easily DSi XL-DS Lite and then much further down original DS and what should be much higher up, the DSi, is last because of that truly frustrating design decision. I still have fond memories of playing Shantae on car trips, but I get paranoid using it if I know I need to set it down. This was... Much longer than I intended. Whoops. And not about Tetris. Uh. I love Tetris. Trism is my favorite puzzle game, but I don't have an iPhone anymore. I jusr picked up a PS4 Pro and Tetris Effect will likely beat it, though. I already have a physical synesthesia that happens with music where different sounds make different pricks on my back, almost like constellations, so I'm sure this game will be amazing regardless. Edit: I am still angry at Nintendo. The original 3DS is beautiful with its tri-tone design. Even if they hadn't figured out IR facetracking, the fact that the 3DS launched without guaranteed IPS screens was a horrible decision. I finally found a reasonably priced N3DS XL with top IPS and it is as much a difference as the facetracking. Considering you need to layer images, having a screen where colors are notoriously inconsistent is such a bad idea. And they can't act like they didn't know because the DSi XL used IPS as a selling point. Maybe it made the system cheaper, but it shipped out at $250 here in the US. (Which is the last time I bought a system at launch.) ANYWAY. Edit 2: Although that one also has a color temperature difference, which has never been an issue for me with their TN screens. Maybe it was chosen for that reason... But it still resulted in an inferior image with 3D, the whole selling point. I guess consistency as a whole is easier to market that consistency in one image. Although they probably could have just included a way to change the temperature. Ugh. I am JK Rowling this post with these edits no one cares for goodnight
Oh, man, you're missing out on Tetris DX's refined simplicity. You could do a rotation trick that let you climb up walls. I would do this to score points, since you gain points for forcing blocks down. So, I'd drop them a bit, have them climb back up, then drop them again.
"TGM series" Oh yeee! Now I wonder if Tetrisphere will be mentio- "Tetrisphere" *YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH*
I'm not sure it's okay to mention here, but if you have nostalgic feelings for the GameBoy Tetris, checkout "Tetris - Rosy Retrospection", it's a rom hack, adding most if not all the modern features like Super Rotation System, shadow, hold, hard drop, to the original GameBoy Tetris! it's surreal!

Shame you didn't add an analysis of the board game. I need to know the resolution and if it uses anti-aliasing or not.
Resolution is the diameter of a polyethylene molecule. Per-frame antialiasing is provided by quantum uncertainty.
Board games in real life only have 24fps and everyone knows we could see up to 30fps
But the board game has 4K with PS4 Pro and Xbox One X or not?
It uses checker board rendering
What IS the frame rate of reality, let alone the resolution of an average eyeball?

But it still resulted in an inferior image with 3D, the whole selling point. I guess consistency as a whole is easier to market that consistency in one image. Although they probably could have just included a way to change the temperature. Ugh. I am JK Rowling this post with these edits no one cares for goodnight
It looks so cool in PSVR!
I think that Tetris Axis on the 3ds is another great portable version of tetris
I remember an adult Tetris game on Windows in mid 90s where instead of blocks you had to fit nacked couples. Probably an unlicensed game
"Probably".
tfw you just spent 49 minutes watching footage of essentially the same game.
Oh, man, you're missing out on Tetris DX's refined simplicity.
You could do a rotation trick that let you climb up walls. I would do this to score points, since you gain points for forcing blocks down. So, I'd drop them a bit, have them climb back up, then drop them again.
The N64 Tetris games were so good. That console had some amazing games, too bad it tends to get forgotten by Nintendo and gamers alike sometimes...
"TGM series" Oh yeee!
Now I wonder if Tetrisphere will be mentio-
"Tetrisphere"
*YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH*
Best tetris was on the ti 200 voyage calculator, it almost destroyed my career :-)
What about Tetrinet? I used to play that with people online back in the early 2000s!
2hours of Tetris in a week
the thing about Sakura Tetris about lock delay is funny because that isn't exclusive to Sakura it's in literally every TGM game
Really disappointed you didn't include the MS-DOS game Sextris.
"Care for a little anime with your Tet-" SOLD!!!!!
Cam I just love the way John says ‘anime’, it’s totally adorable.
in Russia on Dendy (our NES Chinese clone) most common and popular definitely was Tengen Tetris)
And later of course the clone of Brick Game.
No love for Child of Eden?
Time for another update for Tetris 99?
