      Hey man!! Good talking to you at the restaurant! Often times when rebuilding their front suspension they use "lift shackles". If you go that route when you rebuild yours, don't go over an inch of shackle lift. I'm not a fan of those crazy long shackles, puts too much bind on the bushings and messes up the front steering geometry. Great talking with another YJ fan!! Good luck with school!! Have a great day man!!

    Great vid and thanks. I found a pair of 2006 Pontiac grand am seats at the local salvage yard and picked them up for only $15.00 during a 4th of July sale. Rear bolts lined right up and just had to drill two front holes on the yj rails about 1/2 lower than the existing, bolted up and the upgrade is awesome, had the same issue you did with busting a few bolt heads but once those were handled the upgrade was a breeze. Thanks for the vid. This vid is what got me searching the junkyard vs ordering an expensive set of seats online.

    I just installed Pontiac Solstice seats in my YJ. They are AWESOME. They are black perforated leather, and because they are of a convertible they are made to get weather.
    I did have to make 2 plates as the bolt holes are spaced differently. But well worth the work. I used the Solstice rails and YJ mounts.
    Good video. Nice job!

    Awesome tutorial. I am planning sometime to upgrade my seats. With so many that are direct bolt in, I don't see any reason to buy the fancy new ones that cost tons of money. Thanks for doing these videos. Those Pontiac seats look good in there too. Thanks.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  6 років тому

      Those Pontiac seats cost just under $60 for the pair. Nope .. I'm not paying for the expensive OEM replacement stuff. Especially when the Sunfire seats are so much more comfortable and supportive. Soon after putting those seats in I went on a trip for work. The drive was about 4 hours one way. The YJ seats I was hurting after that many miles. The Pontiac seats .. no problem!! So much better!! Thanks for dropping in and taking the time to leave a great comment! Have a great day!

    An early 90's 1500/2500 steering column WILL bolt right in, you just have to shorten the shaft to fit it to the steering box by about 3 inches. I have one in my 90 YJ from a 94 K2500.

    Just successfully installed both front seats from a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire into a 1995 YJ and they're truly awesome! They did require one modification though. The angle of the seat bottom was steeper, which was a little uncomfortable after a while, but it was easily resolved by inserting a 1.5" shim between the seat back and the tracks to raise it, along with a longer bolt. Now the back of the seat is virtually level to the front, and the angle is the same as with the original seats. I'd recommend this to everyone!

    • @talmorin

    Thank you very much for being the first video I've found on this where you zoom into the seat anchor bolts and say it's a 13 to take them out. I definitely could've figured that out on my own , but it's cold outside and I don't want to fiddle around with wrong sockets and freeze to death haha. I figured it was around a 13 or 14 or something

    I put in seats from a Grand Am. Pretty much the same thing, but they were out of a 4 door. I ended up having to drill holes in the bottom of the seat and bolting them in that way, but no big deal.

  • @jeepcollector91
    @jeepcollector91 6 років тому

    I haven't been able to lay back my YJ seats in years. But its not too often that I need to nap in my Jeep anyways...
    I installed an aluminum diamond plate truck tool chest behind the seats so that limits movement unfortunately. It is worth it though as I love having the dry, lockable storage in my Jeep. I installed the tool box using the original rear seat bolts in the floor.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  6 років тому +1

      Ive got a small wooden one that tucks between the back seat and rear door, it bolts through the floor. It works out well when I have my cameras or laptop with me, it gives me a place to keep safe when i don't need to carry them anywhere. I was gonna sleep in mine this past weekend hanging out, wheeling and camping with Matt from BleepinJeep and all his crew at Dixie Run in Sparta Tn. I decided to pitch the small tent I have instead. I believe the seat would have been more confortable.

    • @jeepcollector91
      @jeepcollector91 6 років тому

      I think even the stock YJ seats were better to sleep on when compared to the ground... LOL
      Hopefully someday I'll finish my offroad sleeper camper trailer. I am slowly converting a 60" flat top Kenworth single bunk aluminum sleeper cab into an offroad capable camper trailer. What used to be the front opening into the truck cab is now the right side entrance.
      Due to being stalked by a mountain lion while hiking during an offroad trip to Utah and having a large black bear sneak up just feet behind me while I was working on dismantling my motorhome in my driveway, I have turned into a big chicken over the last few years. So my tent days are over.
      I would love to buy this roof top tent: ua-cam.com/video/ZYN_wbeNkvw/v-deo.html but with my luck I would bash it on a limb or roll my Jeep and destroy the roof top tent the day I install it. Plus it is a bit out of budget.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  6 років тому +1

      True .. I had one sleeping bag under me, then sleeping in the other. Not the most comfortable at all. That rooftop video is a neat setup. But that thing would hang every limb you came near. Man, I don't blame you. I don't mind wilderness critters at all. But when I change places on the food chain, that's a totally different story. I was toying with the idea of getting an XJ body and converting it into a camper trailer. Here is the video that gave me the idea: ua-cam.com/video/nzzN9aFXhUc/v-deo.html . Kind of a neat build. May be a bit on the heave side though.

    Hey Chuck, I took your advice and found a Pontiac Sunfire. I was wanting an Eddie Bauer Explorer, but came up with almost pristine seats from a Sunfire. Unfortunately, mine were not 2001 but 1991. They did not make the direct swap. It was close though. I did not remove the frame for the seats; just the slide rails. I put them on the work bench and found that the seats were about 1 1/2 inches longer than the slides. I went to Ace Hardware and got some 4 inch mending plates that fit beautifully inside the rail and bolted it to the inside of the rail with the needed 1 1/2 inches sticking out. I then drilled and bolted the exposed portion of the mending plate to the seat. The width was off, but just slightly and popped into the frame just fine. The seats are so much more comfortable and give a better seating angle for the road. These will not recline either because of the roll bar but both sides come forward and tilt for better access to the rear seat. One question: Do you know how to remove the seat belt guide from the seat headrest without cutting it off or disfiguring the headrest? Thanks for the great tip!!!!

    Be sure to measure your tracks on the yj seat frame where they bolt down to the seat , mine were too short on the driver side had to fabricate it to work. The passenger side I had to drill out the holes to make it fit

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  2 роки тому

      There were 2 if not 3 different seat frames for YJs. I'm pretty sure the cut off is about 1990. My rig shown in the video is a 1991. Its not a drag and drop fit for 1990 and older. I didn't realize that at time of making this video.

      Would those seats work in a 98 TJ??

  • @mybeautifulfacepaintingmar4892
    @mybeautifulfacepaintingmar4892 6 років тому

    I pulled the seats from a 98 Sunfire GT. The 01 Sunfire seats I looked at were pretty crummy. The seats look exactly the same. I have an 88 YJ and my risers look different than yours. I did not have the same luck as you did, mine did not line up. My seat bolt holes are longer than the slide rails. I opted to attach the back bolts. I will have to make some kind mod to get the front bolts attached, the seats feel pretty stable. My risers bolt differently to the floor than your do as well. My Jeep seems to be an anomaly, things just do work as easily as they should. I do have the seats in and boy are they comfey, a tremendous improvement over the stock ones I removed. I need to remove the Sunfire seat belt holder at the headrest as that hits my rollbar and won't let the seat recline. I also have a Tuffy Box and that makes things kind of tight. Thank you so much for doing your videos. I'm heading to the hardware store for some PVC pipe to do your defroster mod, it has been and will continue to be very cold here in NE Oklahoma. I bought my Jeep with the soft top in June and had a blast running topless this summer, but now it feels like a wind tunnel and I am looking forward to getting some heat diverted into the cabin. Next will be the LED headlights.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  6 років тому

      You are welcome, glad the videos help you! Unfortunately, Im not sure what year they changed all the seating parts. Still should be a fairly easy mod to get the front bolted in. Drill a new set of holes for the front bolts to go through possibly. I run my soft top year round so I understand about getting heat! Good luck with the upgrades! Thanks for taking the time to add a great comment!! Have a great day!!

      They are shaped differently than the YJs, but not too much wider. Your console will be fine. I've thought about doing the interior with some kind of liner. Haven't made up my mind wheat brand. Also tearing my Jeep down for that long. It is my daily driver. When I get my Mustang finished I may do it then. Thanks for stopping in and leaving a great comment! Have a great day!

    Ha guy..thanks. My direct bolt-in Smittybuilt highback driver's seat on my 93 is a good two inches off center toward the shifter. Not the seat. It's in the base. Standard non-flip one. Was YJ designed that way? My passenger is the flip base. I got a driver and passenger flip ones coming from eBay out of an 89YJ. I plan on modifying the flip by cutting the stop off or maybe just notching the lower side rail or both to lower it some. I am 6'3" and the Smittybuilt seat is too thick for me to easily slide under the wheel.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  6 років тому

      Both of the seats in my 91 were centered fine. I also have fixed drivers and flip passenger in both the 91 & 93. I've read there are some variances in frames. I wouldn't think that they would change horizontally. I'll look at 93 to see if its different than my 91. Not sure about that. The Sunfire seats were a bit thicker due to not being worn out like the factory YJ seats. My buddy that helped in that video is about your height. He sits in mine just fine. He said he would like to have a set in his YJ. Thanks for dropping in. Have a great day!

      About what year Cherokee? I was looking at some this past Friday, they had these bulky plastic covers on them just as it exits the dash. It was a 1995 XJ Cherokee I was checking.

    • @cameronmcdaniel5897
      @cameronmcdaniel5897 6 років тому

      I don't remember. But I think 84 - 91 are the same. It looked just like the one I took out of my YJ. There is a flange at the bottom of the column that you have to cut off and transplant all the brackets to the XJ column.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  6 років тому

      Next time I'm at the junkyard I'll look again. Maybe the plastic boxy stuff around the column was just visual fluff. I had been there pulling an MPFI intake from a small block Firebird, it was being a pain so I was ready to go. I pulled a front diff cover off of the XJ and I glanced at it for a minute then headed home. Thanks for the info! I'll check them out closer next time I'm there. Have a good one man!!

    Great video! I ran out and bought a pair of sun fire seats. I have an 87 yj and the seats did not bolt right up. However I bought a new seat slider for the driver side that came off a 93 yj. That slider bolted up and with a little persuasion I was able to make it work. I drilled 2 new holes in the passenger side base and made it work as well. Just wanted to pass on what I ran into.

    I commented a few months ago, I finally got around to buying the correct seat brackets. Now, the problem is that bolts(stud?) that sticks out of the seat brackets, are to large to fit into the factory drilled holes to bolt down the OEM(Pre '91) seat brackets. Is there any way to remove those two bolts/studs? Or do I have to cut them off and drill out the last part just like you did around 12:30 mark? For reference I've got an '87 YJ

    Guys, get an electric impact wrench from Harbor Freight, life will look much more attractive! You can't plug it in on junkyard, but You can definitely use it in Your driveway or run 100 footer if You work on sidewalk. I thought about it when I watched Your track bar removal video, when You destroyed the bolt and now again.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  6 років тому

      I've got 2 air impacts and a monster of an electric impact. As I said in the track bar video, the bolt was seized to the internal bushing sleeve. No amount of impact is going to free that up. Ive pulled leaf springs and control arms that were the same situation, the bolt was seized to the internal bushing sleeve. I've applied, PB blaster and let it soak in. I've applied heat to the bolts and sleeve. Sometimes its just not gonna happen. Bolts are cheap, my time isn't. I'll cut or drill bolts out before I waste a bunch of time for a losing battle. As for the seat bolts, they were so seized up that the torx splines were getting ripped out of the bolt head. There is nothing to grip at that point .. sooo .. drill 'em out. I can buy more bolts, I can't buy my time back. Besides I was trashing the Jeep seats anyway. Thanks for checking out the videos!! Really appreciate it! Have a great day :-)

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  6 років тому

      As far as bolt in, it doesn't affect the console at all. The Sunfire seats are just a bit wider due to better padding but it shouldn't cause any issues with the console. Many people in the Facebook groups run those seats without any issues. One catch, you didn't say what year your Jeep was. The seat frames that bolt to the floor are a bit different 1990 and down. So there is a bit of hole alignment difference on the older seat frames. Hope that helps. Have a great day!
