Howdy fella, another Canadian Gear head .... Well a wanna be, got an 82 Chevrolet Wrangler, a 1984 Caddy Brougham De Elegance that I'm going to be doing up, from Rimbey Alberta.
Fellow Canadian here, from Montreal (Quebec, the hellhole province), been subscribed for years, followed all of your moves and “find it drive it” recoveries. 👍🇨🇦
Some Napa's have a paint center that will take a paint code and mix it for you and put in rattle cans. They use a high end spray tip and you can use whatever brand and quality paint primer and clear you want. It's a great resource!
I liked the graphics too. That being said, the lines left behind would have wiped off with paint thinner; they didn't need polishing. Also, the cat walking on the fresh paint was probably just investigating stuck bugs.
I rattle canned a 1997 Jeep TJ OD Green. Inside, Outside, Front, Back and underneath. The entire Jeep was painted OD Green. It took 46 cans.😮 I did all the body/prep work and sprayed it in my driveway . Took me 4 days to do the body/prep work and 2 days to paint it. It turned out really good 👍
For a spray paint job I think it turned out very good. Way better then I would have thought. And thanks for making our Tuesday afternoon so much better with a full hour of VGG.
Hey Derek here's a tip for spray cans. Get a warming tray from a thrift store. And put your cans of paint on it . What that does is warm the paint up and it flows a lot better out of the can . The atomization of the paint is well worth using this truck .
Some of us aren't edge-macated past 3rd grade... @upscaleshack No... just probably a typo... sometimes a guy just gets a going and hits enter without proofreading...
I take my lil puppy (100 pound, 6 month old Rottweiler) everywhere I go! Jeep and Dogs go together like peas and carrots. It’s so cool to see you and Jessica working on the rig. My and my wife did that a year ago. We rattle canned the whole rig. Turned out better than I thought. Love your show never miss one! I pray that you continue to have success.
the vent in the cowl is for pine needle access so you can block off the drain and eventually flood the drinkers side foot well. It's good on those hot days.
Bleep-bloop: 6 dogs. 3 yellow labs (Nacho, Spicy, and Cheeto), a boxer (Baxter), a terrier mix (RJ) and a lab/border collie mix (Jet), and they go everywhere with me.
Derek, in the UK where it’s always cold I stand rattle cans in a bowl of boiling water after giving them a good shake and it prevents those annoying drips you can get from using rattle cans. 😊 Bryn
That chunk -o- black missing on the drivers door is making me cry in the darn mud. It's makin' a man nuts fellers. Love the show Derek. Jeep looks great...please just rattle can that hunk on the door. I will keep it a secret! Promise! 😅
I miss my YJ 1994. Had it 10 years. No rust, lots of WD 40 underneath spray sessions in the spring, kept everything except the muffler from rusting. Didn’t have a Jeep for 15 years but bought a JK, very happy.
Man I needed this today! Last day at my house. Starting a new off grid life tomorrow and work couldn't have been crazier today. But hey, I have an adult cocktail in my hand and VGG. YEP, all is just fine!
I have seen EVERY VGG on UA-cam and EVERY Roadworthy Rescue (Can't wait for season 3) I gotta say Derek I love the videos where the family pitches in. You're a blessed and lucky man.
One tip form me regarding storage of hardware. I usually keep empty oil jugs/cans/bottles and cut them in half. That way you get a nice storage pot and the other half is a decent funnel.
Had me a little chuckle with the kitty walk and 80s dance moves! Truly dont know how Bentley doesn't crack up with the shenanigans you do around him! Hes a smart and valuable worker btw! Great job!
Little tip when you're removing decals. If there's a bit of adhesive left like you had, sometimes you can take the removed part that is sticky and kid of dab it onto the stuck adhesive and it will come off. Doesn't always work, but is super handy when it does!
Nice work Derek as always! Please keep a fella's lungs healthy by wearing a respirator when painting and clearing as there are some harmful chemicals involved that over time can take their toll.
For a basketcase, I love the way this turned out. In fact, I would say this is probably my favorite video of yours to date, because it really did turn into a daily driver. Love it. I'd finish up the doors and do general upkeep and cosmetics, otherwise I wouldn't touch it. It's perfect. Maybe do a soft top? I never grew up with parents teaching me things in the garage. Derek is like my internet dad teaching me how to do basic automotive things, which I never got. Thanks for all your efforts on these videos. I genuinely learn something every time I watch.
*Pro tip for using rattle cans:* The biggest drawback of rattle cans is the tendency to "orange peel". An easy cheat to greatly minimize this is *_soak the cans in hot water_* before use. This will really help reduce the orange peel effect as well as helps keep the nozzle from clogging/spitting so easily. For obvious reasons make sure you dry the cans with a towel so you don't drip water on your surface. While this helps a lot with improving results with paint, it makes a _massive_ difference with thicker coatings like primer and Plasti Dip. Try it just once and you'll never use room temperature rattle cans again. Especially if it's cold when you're spray painting.
@@davidcooper8797 Then it's not mixed properly or straight up bad paint/bad nozzle. I've been doing it for decades and it works, but it's not going to magically fix a garbage can of paint.
Dang I wish I would have known this 2 days ago, I just got done rattle canning some Jeep half doors, I've definitly got some orange peel in the clear going on, they look great otherwise lol
@@davidcooper8797 Not everyone is good at spray painting to be fair. I've applied hundreds of gallons of lacquer so I'm more experienced than most on knowing exactly how heavy to spray it and how much to overlap.
100% agree. His videos gave me the motivation to spend some quality time out in the shed. Got one car warranted and registered (it's a New Zealand thing) and back driving around. Couple of more cars to go now. Top bloke, thanks Derek.
I like using the rubber eraser wheels to remove stripes, don't gouge the paint and a little lacquer thinner to remove the adhesive and buff. At least that's how we did it in the body shop. But those wheels get a little pricey.
I don’t understand why y’all hate the stripes so much. It’d be different if it was big flames down the side of it or something, but I kinda like them.😁

Just a Canadian fella saying Hello to his American gearhead Brother from another!!🇨🇦♥️🇺🇸👍😎. Love the channel Derek. Cheers to you and the fam!!!
Howdy fella, another Canadian Gear head .... Well a wanna be, got an 82 Chevrolet Wrangler, a 1984 Caddy Brougham De Elegance that I'm going to be doing up, from Rimbey Alberta.
Also a Canadian feller, i daily drive a 91 gmc truck and have my grandfather’s 68 international 1 ton as a project. From Brandon Manitoba
Yeah, definitely not the Leafs
Fellow Canadian here, from Montreal (Quebec, the hellhole province), been subscribed for years, followed all of your moves and “find it drive it” recoveries. 👍🇨🇦
@@garykreil5990 Sweet. Nice collection!!🇨🇦
You can tell that Jessica is still so entertained by you. You two are great! We all appreciate all that you do :)
Love the straight black ! Doing other things with a jeep can become a life long rabbit hole. Something to keep in mind! It can be addictive .
Some Napa's have a paint center that will take a paint code and mix it for you and put in rattle cans. They use a high end spray tip and you can use whatever brand and quality paint primer and clear you want. It's a great resource!
Mixed up 12 cans for a feller today!
@@thatrebelboy48I love it for small stuff and nice you can do the 2k stuff as well.
I am watching this video with my husband and we are BLOWN AWAY and AMAZED how beauitful the Jeep turned out!! Great job Derick and Jessica❤
Caprice following Jessica around was gold. I liked the graphics, they matched the timeframe. Looks fantastic.
It turned out really good 👍
I can’t find any matching wind pants - You crack me up Derek and I hear that - looking forward to seeing what you do. Nice rig 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Like those MC Hammer parachute pants or like windbreaker pants bc I think either one would suffice.
Your Channel & Shows Are The Absolute Best!!! Thank You Derek & Jessica.
Wow, thank you!
@@ViceGripGarage You Are So Welcome. What A Great Suprise On A Taco Tuesday!!! Another Great Video. Cheers!!!
Derek you need a “If you can see the lines, YOU’RE too close. Back up!!” T-shirt or bumper sticker.
Hopefully with "you're" spelled correctly on the sticker or shirt.
Some of us aren't edge-macated past 3rd grade... @upscaleshack
No... just probably a typo... sometimes a guy just gets a going and hits enter without proofreading...
@@upscaleshack sorry Mr. Perfect
A guy almost fell out of his chair when he saw a Tuesday video! The Jeep looks great! I'll see you at Cleetus and Cars this weekend!
the vent in the cowl is for pine needle access so you can block off the drain and eventually flood the drinkers side foot well. It's good on those hot days.
Thanks for the Shoutout Derek!! :) Jeep Looks Great!!!
hell yeah it does, for what it is! thanks for looking in on Derek. very cool.
Kevin, your bodywork videos are always informative.
Bleep-bloop: 6 dogs. 3 yellow labs (Nacho, Spicy, and Cheeto), a boxer (Baxter), a terrier mix (RJ) and a lab/border collie mix (Jet), and they go everywhere with me.
Love the way Derek was towing the line whilst Jessica was supervising, wearing a mask to spray then deleted on it when she wasnt in the building.
I was going to say the same thing 😊
Yeah, I noticed that too!
Derek, in the UK where it’s always cold I stand rattle cans in a bowl of boiling water after giving them a good shake and it prevents those annoying drips you can get from using rattle cans. 😊 Bryn
oh man those 80s graphics were sweet!!
That chunk -o- black missing on the drivers door is making me cry in the darn mud. It's makin' a man nuts fellers.
Love the show Derek. Jeep looks great...please just rattle can that hunk on the door. I will keep it a secret! Promise! 😅
I miss the 80's graphics. The nostalgianess makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
The dog and pickup truck combo is still very popular in my area! There is just something wholesome about a feller, his dog and pickup out doin' stuff.
I miss my YJ 1994. Had it 10 years. No rust, lots of WD 40 underneath spray sessions in the spring, kept everything except the muffler from rusting. Didn’t have a Jeep for 15 years but bought a JK, very happy.
Should of used something better than WD40 that after 3 trips down the road and first rain storm washed off.
Man I needed this today! Last day at my house. Starting a new off grid life tomorrow and work couldn't have been crazier today. But hey, I have an adult cocktail in my hand and VGG.
YEP, all is just fine!
Good luck!
I have seen EVERY VGG on UA-cam and EVERY Roadworthy Rescue (Can't wait for season 3) I gotta say Derek I love the videos where the family pitches in. You're a blessed and lucky man.
Wow, thank you!
Great job!
Caprice was making her mark of approval, Derek tested kitty approved❤
I suspect soaking those cans in hot water would make your paint flow smoother and not spatter
Is there any risk of them blowing up doing that ?
@tedbell4416 nope do it all the time
Does it really work?
@@rickyaderholt4119 yep
Little tip when you're removing decals. If there's a bit of adhesive left like you had, sometimes you can take the removed part that is sticky and kid of dab it onto the stuck adhesive and it will come off. Doesn't always work, but is super handy when it does!
Nice work Derek as always! Please keep a fella's lungs healthy by wearing a respirator when painting and clearing as there are some harmful chemicals involved that over time can take their toll.
Derek kills me 😂 says he doesnt really care for a rig then always buffs her down for hours to take it in ta town!
Derek and Jessica yall are so cute and made for each other. It is a joy to watch each and every time.
As always .. the best part of my week hanging with you through a project.
Man, I didn’t know you could even use those spray cans they are selling. The result is amazing. Thank you Derek for an entertaining video.
Ppl
I liked those decals!
I’ll guess I won’t go to bed yet. Hello from UK. Thanks for the midweek uplift. I’ll be dipped.
Howdy!
On a Tuesday!? What a treat!
Found this tip in my model car magazines. Didn't help me any :(
@@davidcooper8797 Then it's not mixed properly or straight up bad paint/bad nozzle. I've been doing it for decades and it works, but it's not going to magically fix a garbage can of paint.
@@zodwraith5745 i don't know man, it's been Ike 30 years
Dang I wish I would have known this 2 days ago, I just got done rattle canning some Jeep half doors, I've definitly got some orange peel in the clear going on, they look great otherwise lol
@@davidcooper8797 Not everyone is good at spray painting to be fair. I've applied hundreds of gallons of lacquer so I'm more experienced than most on knowing exactly how heavy to spray it and how much to overlap.
I liked the 80's graphics, but after seeing it all black, I think that was the right move. Looks nice and slick now.
Yes I agree. I enjoy watching his videos a lot. I also learned a lot from Derek.
Derek, i love it when you get the family involved, y'all seem like a fantastic bunch, much love from Michigan
Jessica is always a good addition to your videos. Great vid!
You’re by far my favorite UA-camr been watching you for years. You’ve motivated me to get out in the garage thanks derek
That is awesome!
I like the decals! The 80’s MTV vibe goes perfectly with your mullets! 😂
I don’t understand why y’all hate the stripes so much. It’d be different if it was big flames down the side of it or something, but I kinda like them.😁
I really liked the graphics, it was a reminder of the good old days when jeeps were more affordable.
Derrick and Jessica, you make a wonderful team. God bless you and your family and Loved ones 🙏🙏🙏.
I love that when Derek’s missus is around, it’s all respirators and proper PPE, but when it’s just him, he just sends it. Proper.
Rattle can for the win!!
VGG on a Wednesday? This makes an unwell Feller very happy.
I have to say, growing up in a body shop, watching this hurt badly lol. Love the videos keep them coming. By the who and way, you and Dylan McCool need to do a project together, you have a Mopar, he loves Mopar.
