Ive had a 508 over 3 years now and can safely say ill be getting another one. haven't had one single issue in that time. the main dealer servicing is also cheap. all round great drive, comfortable, reliable and economical car. My previous passat was the exact opposite to this. terrible bankruptcy rubbish! And all vw and German cars problems have been highlighted consistently now year on year in all reliability surveys from warranty direct to German TUV index to driver power survey. its amazing how the British motoring press are still trying to peddle the great German engineering myth!
Ross Donovan Germans are great doing cars and if you think that thats not true it might be because you haven't had an audi. I really like peugeots they are really good, and of course reliable, I still have my dad's 306 sw which is 17 years old and it is still working great. And those great diesel engines that never get broken I love them hahahaha
Ilian Ive owned an Audi A3 and passat and both were a complete disaster, always in the garage every couple of months. the Audi gearbox failed after 4 years and only 65k on the clock, so no thanks ill stick to my trouble free 508.
What a surprise this car is! You cant actually see/feel it until you try it, but interior quality is a lot better than on insignia or even c5.. nice work Peugeot.
Are you guys sponsored by Ford?? You keep comparing every other car to the mondeo or the fiesta. And we well know that Ford isn't the reference in the market.
+Ben Tj Ford is a popular brand in the UK - Fiest, Focus and Mondeo are top sellers. It is only natural to mention them here and there when there is a competitor under review.
I know, for example the interior of the focus is probably the worst interior in its class. cheap black hard plastics with too many cluttered centre console buttons, yet these are all over looked by the British press because it handles well. Remember the focus diesel units are powered by Peugeot PSA HDI engines. The Peugeot 308 mk2 is still the best looking car in its class 3 years on and has a top notch premium interior. still better looking and feel than vauxhalls recent astra too.
I just spent a week with a top of the line 508 and I can tell you its is really a great car indeed. However, I can never understand why someone would get into a perfectly good car like a 508 and then spend time whinging about bloody cup holders and places in the doors to hold pieces of paper, chip packets and other assorted shit.
After nine months of owning and driving, I was so impressed with my 2009 Peugeot 308 2L HDI SW that I bought a 2012 Peugeot 508 e-HDI, with 60K on the clock. If my new-to-me 508 is half as good, i.e. safe, comfortable and economical as my 308, then you won't hear me complain.
+Mike Byrne hi Mike I recently changed my 308 for the 508 2.0L feline. As I have drive my 308 for 290,000klms trouble free, love the 508, loads of power very comfortable. (Massage seats really good on the feline trim) defiantly recommend! Good luck with yours if you purchace one, my 3rd peugeot now and not one problem with any of them! Brilliant cars!
+Brooklyn Broularre ive also currently got a Peugeot 308 1.6 allure and its been ok. the ride is too hard and i have had some issues with the brakes and steering. its a great car and super ecomomical i made 64mpg on a 150 mile trip home. is the ride better than the 308 on your 508 and does it have less road noise. also what is your mgp like on the 508? so for all the questions, i trust owners opinions over reviews as theu have time to settle with the car etc
+Mike Byrne hi mike, and really? I know lots of people with the new 308 with no problems at all the same as me!! The only thing that went wrong with my 308 was the auto dim mirror packed in a month before I traded it in for the 508, however it was replaced free even though it was out of warranty! Peugeot offer very good customer service I feel! The ride is quite solid however it dose soak the bumps more than the 308 and has more spongy seats, the road holding is not as good as the 308 however it's miles better than the newer generation Passat for example which my cousin drives! It handles very well around corners at speed. I never really tought the 308 was noisy on the road until I got the 508, it's super silent on the motorway!! The mpg is not too far off the 308 I generally get around 55-60mpg combined driving! Hope this helps.
Correct, I always been sceptical about French cars and their reliability but seems like they simply outperform the German rivals Still prefer a Japanese one but Peugeot can be an alternative at some point. So far the worst are vw group cars . Broken before sold for first time 😀
This car looks MUCH better in person. Especially the interior. The quality of materials inside is far beyond passat or mondeo, and comparable with audi a4. Actually, when i was walking around dealers the other day, i went from peugeot to audi dealer, and a4 felt cheap inside compared to 508. Its filled with aluminum details, and only soft touch plastic. It also feels extremely solid and you get a sense of premium quality thats missing from mondeo , or especially passat with its hard plastics..
What about a look under the bonnet.? How easy is it to check the oil, water, battery, hydraulic fluid or change the filters? Is it fwd or rwd? Can the owner service it?
There is a background tune played for a few moments at 1:27; what type of music is this?? It's really cool, but I can't think of the genre it would be.
I'm planning to buy a peugeot 508 1.6 hdi 2011 model in UK. It has 116k on clock. I'm afraid of peugeot because of french make ones. Can I go for peugeot or not? Please recommend some of the previous 508 owners!
I borrowed one as a rental car whilst I was waiting for my new car and this review is spot on, although I had the bigger diesel with 200bhp which for my was slow off the line but as soon as you're rolling, deceptively quick top end!
@Bolerophon no doubt they big, im just saying its naming convention is wierd. if they call midsize "large" cars, what are real large cars (such as the s class or xj) called?
A colleague has just bought a July 2012 508 2.0HDi Active with 16k and all the bells and whistles for £10500!!!! Fair enough, it's an ex rental vehicle but is in superb condition. A year ago it cost £23000 in a showroom!!!!!
@cmagennis927 no, the case is that the trunk will be frozen by itself, ant you need force to open it, you need handlebar. It wont open by itself in Norway winter.
Car manufacturers produce car with both left and right side steering.. it depends on where they meant to be sold.. in England it´s on the right side, got it?
Ford diesel got Peugeot engine,French best for making Diesel engine in the world.even some Mercedes engine build by Renault. Only problem with the French car is electrical issues coz they try to put everything electrically operates for customers relaxations but not always work.

From 308 the Peugeots reliability is at the top 5 cars. That includes later 407:s (2008 ->), 3008 (this has already proven itself to have real deal quality), 5008 and now the 508.
