my favorite thing about this movie is that it showed batman staying and helping with rescue/cleanup after the flood. too many movies show the hero showing up to fight the villain and then disappearing for dramatic effect but i thought it was really cool to see a superhero actually staying and helping first responders. this movie was a great callback to vintage batman comics where he was more caring and kind to civilians, and a great detective.

The whole point is him realizing he can't just be vengeance. Because that idea motivated the Riddler and his goons which took that line as well. He realized instead of vengeance he has to be a hero which is why he stayed to help the civilians.

I know people have issues with the representation of Batman and the GCPD's relationship in this movie, but this is how it usually is this early in Bruce's career and how it would be in real life. When Batman starts out, most of Gotham's police are corrupt and hardly do anything to protect the city, so he has no faith or trust in them. The only "Good cop" in Batman's eyes is Gordon.
From the perspective of the GCPD (and in reality), Batman IS a vigilante breaking the law, so legally, he has no business at a crime scene or even doing what he does. Only Gordon sees that things are so bad both within the Police and with Gotham to understand that someone like Batman is sadly necessary and works with him as a "last resort" type of partnership.

@jackcrofts-mullin461 - That´s a constant, in reactions to any Batman content... People complaining about the police hating on Batman. In the Tim Burton films, the Nolan trilogy, now the Batman.. People constantly screaming at the screen: "Bro, Batman is just saving people!" or "He´s doing your job!" (BvS not so much, but only because Batman is a complete psychopath in that film, so no one is surprised that the police don´t like him xD). Personally, I LOVE superhero stuff, but I completely agree with the idea that vigilantism is CRAZY, and should be COMPLETELY ILLEGAL irl... So I never had any problems understanding why cops wouldn´t like vigilantes and superheroes in movies. But some people don´t get it... I don´t know why :S

@@gabrielp9646 my personal belief is that most of the time, especially with characters that have no superpowers (Batman, Daredevil etc) they greatly exaggerate the crime rate and police corruption in their cities to give credibility for the protagonist resorting to vigilantism, when in reality, most of the community and police would be against them

All of these characters live in a very heightened and really over the top world (both in terms of crime and violence, but it also goes for hope and optimism, with characters like Superman). That´s true. What I don´t understand, is why people don´t understand the police hating vigilantes and superheroes, in almost every single movie, cartoon or TV show... When people (reactors) complain about it, I always feel like: "Well, OF COURSE they would hate them. What do you mean?" xDxD

Dude, I'm from Rio, this is tropical Gotham City, like most things from Batman movies it's nothing compared to here, last Christmas they burned a guy trapped with tires around here, the smell is still there.
A father who lived here had to flee to another state with his family because the drug dealer wanted to have sex with his 12-year-old daughter, blowing up ATMs and escaping by train, everything I said is normal here.
Like, go watch some news from Rio and keep in mind that this isn't even 30% of the real deal, most things don't make the news (like the burned guy or the crime judges).
We had some vigilantes here, even some former police officers, but they almost always ended up being worse than the drug traffickers, because they formed militias and controlled the economy of a place, practically one state within another.
Elit Squad was a film that was made to criticize police brutality, but people here are so desperate for heroes that they started to idealize the Main Character, in the second film they turned him into an anti-hero.
That why i like Batman, this movie had so much connection to real life to me, is crazy.

As a longtime Batman fan I love that line “Maybe the city is beyond saving. But I have to try.” We don’t get a lot of young wild Bruce, but this movie captured it perfectly. He’s been Batman for two years, he’s violent, messy and raw. He hasn’t developed the persona “Bruce Wayne” we see in other older versions yet. This is a great representation of Bruce realizing Batman can’t be vengeance because it’ll just make things worse. He has to represent justice to make a difference. Great stuff.

"He's the hero Gotham deserves but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A Dark Knight."

@@porterpaintss3462 Well not all versions of Bruce are brutal and relentless, some of them are more thoughtful, reflecting and philosophical
Also many people fail to understand that this is a Year 2 Batman, still young and fairly inexperienced
Batman only starts being confident and reckless between Year 3 ~ Year 5 after fighting off a fair share of supervillains
This movie is the closest thing we ever got to a Animated series Batman translated onto the movie screen and the attention to detail mixed with traumatic flashbacks and philosophical questions and morale dilemma that Bruce faces early on as the Batman are illustrated in a flawless manner in this movie
I really do think that this is the best Batman movie ever by a long shot: its not over the top, it does not deviate from the origins too much, it takes itself seriously and it shows both the struggle and trauma of Bruce Wayne, something that every single movie in the past have failed miserably to capture

He was blinded to what the city actually needed. This movie handled the “themed goons” most comic supervillains have perfectly by establishing the Riddlers dark web activity and “community” so it makes perfect sense they all dress like him.
The fight scenes involving Batman felt straight out of the Arkham Asylum games and anytime he got hit just made me think “Bro didnt press Triangle/Y to parry”

The scene where Batman and riddler are talking is a little confusing, but in the comics, riddler is autistic and doesn’t really comprehend things like other people, so he thought that him and Batman were actually together as a team. Also, when he says Bruuuce Wayyyyne, he doesn’t actually know I don’t think, I’m pretty sure he’s telling batman that he’s the only one they didn’t get, which is why he said, “he’s the only one WE didn’t get

31:50 Close, Batman’s one main philosphy is the absolute sacredness of human life. Since he’s early in his career, he’s at a point where he cant forgive anyone who put another person’s life at risk, no matter who.
It’s half noble, and half selfish, because some scumbags need to die, but either way it makes the character incredibly interesting.

Actual detective… yes he solved hallmark cards he’s a genius. Keatons solving chemical compounds and penguin gang and background bens finding every member of the league he’s tracking white Portuguese he’s making kryptonite weapons Bales here tracking marked bills, tracking scarecrow’s shipments, investigating jokers followers, finding Lau, constructing the bullet getting leverage on the judge to Rachel, finding jokers location and building the sonar screens. They all stop the villain in the end. Pattinson didn’t have to do anything riddler turned himself in, then told Batman his plan. Dude couldn’t even figure it out then STILL could t figure it out after riddler told him. He needed Martinez to help. Yeah he’s the best

39:54 One detail that’s quick to miss is Riddler actually had no idea under Batman was Bruce. His line “He’s the only one we didn’t get” pretty much confirmed it for Batman because why would he say HE’S the only one WE didn’t get, meaning why would Batman and Riddler not get him if it’s actually Bruce who is Batman. I loved that we all thought he knew it was Bruce but then he deducts it with just one of his lines. Brilliant detective work I must say though he missed that whole vans with bombs.

  • @Awwscrewit

About not shooting at Batmans face, most firearm training is focused on center of mass since it minimizes the odds of missing. It basically becomes second nature to people who do a lot of shooting so it makes sense for them to reflexively aim for the body.

I'm someone is critically injured it is a really bad idea to take off their clothes because it moves the body too much and could cause more injury, that's why your clothes usually get cut up in an emergency. Cutting the clothes means they move the body less, and taking off a skin tight bulletproof cowl would almost guarantee a broken neck and messed up spine

Gotham is an alternate universe New York. Rocksteady depicted this very well in Arkham Knight with the three islands of Gotham instead of five burrows of New York. And the Lady of Gotham instead of Lady Liberty.
"Gotham" has been a nickname for New York City that first became popular in the 19th century; Washington Irving had first attached it to New York in the November 11, 1807, edition of his Salmagundi, a periodical which lampooned New York culture and politics. Irving took the name from the village of Gotham, Nottinghamshire, England: a place inhabited, according to folklore, by fools.
