Recording in a public place is lawful so therefore allowed and according to the criminal justice act 1972 section 33 which defines what a public place is, *( “Public place” includes any highway and any other premises or place to which at the material time the public have or are permitted to have access, whether on payment or otherwise ”.)* So if it's a public place where you can lawfully be then you can record what you are doing in that public place because that is lawful too. If I can be there then I can be there with a bodycam.

GDPR is about personal information (eg names, addresses, DOBs, bank numbers etc etc). As long as you don’t walk in and ask for any personal info off the ‘customers’ or staff then there isn’t an issue....

Can’t record in here it’s against GDPR rules, yep the same ones about how organisations store your data. Nowhere in the 7 standards does it mention a member of public recording in a public place. GDPR ultimately places legal obligations on a processor to maintain records of personal data and how it is processed, providing a much higher level of legal liability should the organisation be breached.
Private Data is the responsibility of the Council to protect and not an excuse to not record what your eyes, ears, mind and brain can analyze and remember!

Here’s some facts for you. In the UK, there are no WRITTEN LAWS to say you can film/photo from a public place. There are no laws to say you can't "YOU ARE ALLOWED” The reason why? Is because of the millions of CCTV that sprung up over the years in the UK. It's accepted, there's no expectation of privacy in a public place. If there was some law rought out to restrict this because of privacy. Then all the CCTV cameras would all have to come down. Big Brother wouldn't allow that would they. In a nut shell, the only places you are allowed to Film/ Photograph without interference is from a "Public Right of Way" Footpath, bridleway and Street or road. Actions like this get noticed for the wrong reasons, if the police get involved, as you know, they don't abide by the law ;-). Even In the US, although it is written in their constitution "Freedom of the Press. People were still being arrested for filming inside and outside federal (Public) buildings. It wasn't till 2012 , and its mentioned many times in the 1st Amendment audits., they had to get written permission by means of a memo, which was sent out, first by the DHS, then Poster 7 allowing photo/film the outside of Federal buildings, also inside where the public were FREELY ALLOWED to be with no restrictions. IN THE THE UK YOU DON'T HAVE THAT PERMISSION. If it is inside a building you have to ask for permission first. Doesn't matter if it's a public area or not.
