  • This is a brief video on one method I use to incorporate yarn and ribbon scraps into my art yarn. In this video I use the core spinning method. Anchor the end of the ribbon with your spinning fiber and let the scrap spin in with as much control as you like, then anchor it down again. Let me know if you have questions!

Pretty. What would you knit with that lovely yarn?

Thank you! I knit all kinds of things with my art yarn. Mostly scarves, shawls, and simple sweaters. The key is to use big needles, (I use 50's and 70's) and simple patterns. That way the stitches are large and the yarn/contents can be show off, and the yarn doesn't get lost in the pattern. I wouldn't cable or anything like that, just super simple. :-)

Thank you!! In this video I'm using a Blue Bonnet Crafty Bee. They are no longer in business :-( but I, now, use an Ashford Kiwi 3 with the Super Flyer setup and have found that it's very similar!

About how long would you say the pieces are? Have you found one length is better than another ?

In this video, they vary a lot. I typically prefer anything over a few inches. It can be done with smaller ones, but I like the look when they're longer. With shorter pieces (a few inches, as opposed to longer) you get a more spiral, controlled look. With longer pieces, I granny stack them more so it's super textured. (I hope that makes sense!)
