I just had an interview for a non-paid internship with a startup. In the first interview, he talked for 1and a half hours about the product and its features. It felt like a scam, and probably he just looking for free work. I'm very frustrated about how people are taking advantage of junior designers these days.
Hello! Ive been loving your videos and have started a self learning journey in ux design. Im curious if youve ever seen someone get into ux without a degree whatsoever? Im two credits away from a general associates but covid shut that down and since then ive been working 60 hours a week min wage in the u.s.a. i dont have money for college or a boot camp, and even with financial aid i dont have the time. If you have seen anyone in my situation succeed could you talk about what that looked like?
Yes, I'd bet majority of people in UX don't have official degree in UX. Most designers I've worked with are self starters. Make sure to dedicate enough time to learn it though and practice it. I'd start small like getting books on it and slowly developing a portfolio of projects.
I'm from India, 98% of jobs I've read through titled "UX" are actually UI, at best. At worst they'll want you coding, animating and what not. True UX roles are rare and are not entry level! I opine those whose local scene is similar to mine, must start off with UI or product design at a place that knows what UX is, learn the real world UX application in that role for 1/2 years, maybe also do a few freelance projects & then position themselves as Product/UX designers and pursue a remote opportunity/move abroad.
