Well said. I want to add that UX is not just a soft skill that most people think is similar to graphic design. UX is a combination of Soft skills & Hard Learning. A continuous learning mindset is the only way to survive in this field. As curious as you are on your first day while u enter UX. Problem-solving & creativity never goes old.
I am 31 and I am making the switch. it's so scary because I am from a different background. However, I love it I want to try something new out of my comfort zone and I what I love is that it is about solving problems and making life easier for customers/users.
@@nombusontsimbi8291 I understand the feeling, it was difficult for me as well but if those things bring you joy, then I think you should go for it. Good luck!
I’ve been leaning towards a career shift in Ux ! I’ve probably watched 100s of videos, i must say your video gave me a clear roadmap of how i should go about it all ! I appreciate how beautifully you’ve put up the book recommendations! I would love to see your journey ! Thank you for inspiring me!
Well spoken bro , I am 30 now learning UX/UI design ,feeling weird but after listening to you i got some confidence...thank you! I hope my journey in future as good as you.
Thank you for sharing these!! super helpful indeed, I'm also on my way transitioning from accounting to design, and your experience motivates me a lot! Well done!
2 good books are: Designing with the mind in mind,a simple guide to understanding user interface design rules, and Usable usability, simple steps for making stuff better In addition to critical thinking, I would recommend a book on creative thinking
Great video! When I saw you made this video I was sure to watch all of it. I remember when you were first getting started! Thanks for book recommendations. I want to learn the fundamentals of design at some point because I think it’s a valuable skill for software engineers as well.
I’d recommend to continue to show your product design skills and the problem you solved. There is some importance on relevant industry experience but it’s not everything. A lot of industries relate with each other as well. You can also do projects that are outside of that industry if that doesn’t work, I’d recommend the product or industry you’d like to work in.
This is a great video, thank you! All useful and relevant information and delivered well. I am working on a career change in my late 30's--tough with the market being as it is. What industry did you come from before UX?
Hi Tan! Thanks for the video! I found it super helpful. I had six years experience program managing in accounting as well! Did you find an entry level job? Were you be able to apply your previous working experience and find a junior level or senior level job?
I started entry level (junior) and worked my way up. There are transferable soft skills, and over time, you'll improve your design craft and tooling. Thanks for watching, and good luck!
omg that's what i search about , i am in 30'y now , but I'm a bit confused about what design direction I want to go in. I have two options that I find difficult to choose between, is it packaging design? Or UX design? I need to decide this month! Time is running out and it's worrying me.
If you enjoy critical thinking, communication, and creative problem-solving, UX design might be for you. It’s a field where you’ll keep learning, so don’t stress about making a permanent choice. I hope this video helps-good luck!
Hello sir I am from india.I am a visual arts background student,a have completed my bachelor of fine arts and masters of fine arts degree. now i am a fine arts teacher in an indian School.my age is 29,I have little bit knowledge in designing software.how can I switch my career in ui ux design field.can I become an ui ux designer at this age???
To anyone who’s reading this understand that a lot of this advice doesn’t really apply now. The market is completely different and extremely competitive, the tech boom is over. You can read all the books you want but make sure you get a degree because that’s ultimately what’s going to get your foot in the door these days not a couple books or a bootcamp. I know this guy means well but he might be completely out of touch with reality regarding design. The competition is fierce, the market is so oversaturated that even average companies are being picky and good luck finding entry level jobs. These days it’s basically a lottery so you have to put yourself in the best position to win.
This is solid advice. While it worked for me, the market has changed, and competition is pretty tough. Still I think with strong skills, dedication, and a solid portfolio, you can land a job. I feel that if you design thoughtful experiences with clean UI and solid fundamentals, there’s a chance. I cover more on this in my last video. Also your location is a huge factor as well. Thanks for watching and for your insights on today’s market.
@@chrisdezigns hey it’s been rewarding. Entry can be hard right now but just stay grinding and working on your skills and you’ll be fine. Just be patient on the job market at the moment. Goodluck

How long did it take you to do this?
I’ve landed my first job in about 6 months, it’s been close to 4 years now since then
