I've got an old piston pump sitting in my basement that was probably the original water well pump for the house and is just collecting dust now. Thanks for adding another project to my list!!! XD lol
they are still quiet common on the farms in germany, but we dont use blader tanks wie just use zinced pressure tanks with a large inspection opening, so the silt can be cleaned out every now and again
Cool pump! I have an old piston pump much like that and it works perfectly by hand. These pumps don't pump a lot of volume but they're capable of considerable pressure, they can handle some grit in the water, as well as air and it won't lose prime. In fact these pumps are self priming. You can also put just about any kind of motor you want on it. The pressure relief valve is definitely recommended for this kind of pump.
we use two of these to pump maple sap off of a high vacuum tubing system... you need a check valve installed after the pump to make it work, but we have had one of the pumps for 20 years, still works, just need to replace plunger springs after awhile...dont let them freeze
Nice. I picked up one of those on it's own pressure tank a couple years back at a flea market for cheap. It was sold by sears probably in the 70's and has a 110v motor on it. I might have to copy your project with mine.
the economist magazine awhile back had a thing about solar power using free piston stirling engines. the opposed piston design is supposed to enable efficent heat conversion and torque.
you could drill a hole in one of the wells of the wheel and have it to where you can put a handle on with a nut and bolt. i wouldnt leave it on though. be safe and live well!
UA-cam channel shedasaurus video "Piston Pump 1 1/2" Pulley direction and oil info" would make me think that your pump was running the wrong direction in this video. I know you said something about hooking the motor up right. I have one of these motors that came with a Dankoff slow pump that I am trying to switch over to an old old piston pump. But the pump is the mirror image of yours and so my motor runs the wrong way. I'm not sure that it would work to run the motor counter clockwise instead of the way it ran with the impeller pump. Does anyone know if you can run one of these Dankoff DC pumps in the opposite direction to what the motor ran when pumping?
Nice video thanks for the channel. I was thinking instead of a hand crank you may be able to hook up a bike ,with sprocket, to handle the work. One reason I thought of this is the RPM's that you will probably need to sustain to make the pump work well. Just a thought, you are the engineer. Thanks again.
Curious, I have a traditional drilled well, been seriously considering the "simple pump" only thing holding me back is the $$$. How would one adapt a pump like the Solarforce to use on my well to get water into the house??
This was 4 years ago... Is it still alive the pump. If you have been running it at that speed and it still going I would be impressed. The pump should only be running at 200 RPM. Otherwise, you will kill the pump quickly.
Hi @Engineer775, How's your Dankoff Solarforce Piston pump holding up? If you don't mind me asking, what model are you using? I'm actually thinking of getting the Dankoff Solar Force 3040-24B for an off grid project i'm working on, so I'm kind of curious to see if you have any pros and cons after 4+ years of use. Thanks!
If you do a handle make it like a hit and miss wheel that has a stop one way for running by hand and hinged the other way so the handle will fold in out of the way on its own when under power. You don't want to get whacked in the shin by a spinning handle.

If anyone can, you will get it to work my friend. Thanks for sharing. that give me an idea for my garden irrigation.

After 9 years and still running Solar I still want one filtration is my problem with these slow pumps in my spring.

NICE FIND good sir :) Thanks for sharing.
Nice find, a backup for a backup awesome.
I like your air compressor in the back left

Grover is trying to understand what you are asking me. Clarify.
Seems very well balanced!
the economist magazine awhile back had a thing about solar power using free piston stirling engines. the opposed piston design is supposed to enable efficent heat conversion and torque.
Nice find and a nice save!
What makes it so much more tolerant of silt and such? Nice find.
Leather cups.

Very nice unit, will be interesting to see how long the battery's run the pump for at night. Wish i could get my hands on one of these

What type of motor does pump is? Can you share the spec of the motor? Please.. thank you
Can you run that pump to a 15 kilowatts generator and in feed a home electricity and conec a charger to recharge the batteries?
Sweet, that's an awesome find! I can't wait to see the next videos. Are you going to do one on rebuilding it as well?
Yes, I will do a rebuild video soon.
It is nearly identical to an old Deming pump. We had several on the farm and they ran forever.
would love to see it up and hooked up- thanks for share- nice score

Re: hand cranking. I noticed that it turns at rather high rpm. Does it have to turn that fast to work?
It is a positive displacement pump so if the piston is moving it is pumping. But it wouldn't perform like being motor driven of course.
Thanks. Cool little pump.
Like these garage videos. You have not had one in a while. How is the upstairs w/ the free radiant heating you got from the school?
thats a cool old pump
Bahut badiya jankari diya apne
would it work on a deep well with an existing 240v ac pump. I use lots of water. I do have solar panels
this is great for when SHTF Thanks a lot

I have a well that is 50-60 foot deep. Would it be possible to put this pump on my well as a back up?
Why hand pump? Hook it up to a bicycle frame.
Wow what a find, this is exactly what I was looking for , to use on my well. ollllllllllo
What's that tractor in the background?
1940 John Deer LI - 254 models made. Restoring it slowly with my son.
engineer775 Practical Preppers Good stuff, thanks.
I need that!!!
Beautiful.

I got an old one just like that...Got it for free too !
Can they still be pruchased new?
Is there a link to their site?

I dont know what you paid for that but looks good. Those are expensive. Probably will be upgrading my dankoff pump to this system soon.

Cool!
You could hook it up to a bike that would reduce the work load on who ever is stuck pumping that day
Hand crank would make a great show... How about a bicycle....
Tractor PTO. Nobody is going to want to hand pump if bad weather is what caused the probblem in the first place.
Run it with a steam engine!!!
