    I didn't really think he betrayed them but I was shocked when out of nowhere One for all just showed up casually like it is nothing. Like the big bad just turns up and is like "Hows it going guys?"
    I had a "wow, this is happening NOW" moment.

    One of the reasons All for One became so powerful is that he’s really good at weaponizing heroic qualities in a self-serving way.
    Helping Aoyama’s family, taking in Shigaraki, and propping up Spinner are all things that give him more power, but in a way that endears him to people.
    Doing good things for the sake of evil is a really interesting take on a character.

      That's a good point, it's all external displays with warped motivation, mainly selfishness (opposite to the kids).

      Yeah he has a tendency to weaponize the Symbol of Peace's ideals. When he first said "You won't escape, because I Am Here" to Bakugo, I knew he was gonna be a grade A menace.

    Shows what Toga's mindset is considering she still hasn't questioned Dabi on the Twice situation.

    On a side note it's kinds wild that Shoto is thinking of having a bowl of udon with Toya meanwhile Dabi wants to murder him and the entire family 💀💀 like the sentiment is right from Shoto but it's wild seeing the contrast between the two brothers.

    "My parents are poorer than ever." Smash cut to: unseen scene where Ochako's parents, who own a construction company, accidentally become disaster/war profiteers, but end up leaning into it, corrupted by their sudden wealth. Somewhere, a monkey's paw quirk curls its hand. "You said you wanted money, right?" End of trailer, print the spinoff: My UraVillain Academia.

    As always, your insights and commentary are really appreciated. This series does an excellent job of making sure we all remember that beneath the surface, the big villains are all still people who, for one reason or another, have gone down the wrong path. I'm a big believer in that someone may do terrible things, but underneath there lies a person struggling with something that's worthy of helping them somehow.

    Oh man you’re probably the only reactors I actively wait for reactions and notify myself for when you upload a new video on MHA. Considering I understand you’re a teacher, it’s always good to hear you analyze the depths of the human condition and MHA is probably the best thing i’ve read in shonen that constantly evaluates that. I’m even caught up with the manga and you still surprise me with some insight that I never even thought of before. Keep up the good work Goodwin

    All Spinner wanted was to support Shigaraki and see what future he will create... and now AFO has given him the loaded gun to unleash the wrath of the mistreated heteromorphs, and he can't even get a chance to think about it.
    Just like what happened with Twice. Continuing to delve deeper into a bad crowd for comfort can eventually drag you down into something worse.

    On a side note, Spinner’s development was kinda cut in the anime when compared to the manga. His perspective on himself and shigaraki are much more nuanced in the manga so I recommend one time re-reading some moments and episodes you particularly enjoyed to see how much Hirokoshi is good at character writing

    I can't say I am a fan of how the big final battle will go, it dragged on for forever in the manga... There are 2 stand out events that happen tho, and one of them is actually the pay off for Uraraka/Toga and for me personally is one of the best things I have ever read. Loved your take on understanding and compassion for someone who has done unforgivable things.

    Well, i feel for someone that has done horrible things, I'd apprehend them and see if they have a desire to change for the better, I'd still keep them locked up, but to give them the opportunity to atone for what they did and get better as a person, to then return and try to have a peaceful life with others, which is what prisons are actually meant for, not locking them away forever just to leave them there

    • @AGoodwinTV
      @AGoodwinTV  2 дні тому +3

      Yeah it's difficult in practice because you can't easily distinguish who is repenting out of genuine understanding and who is doing so to avoid punishment, and there is extreme risk to judging incorrectly

    • @arielmartinez94
      @arielmartinez94 2 дні тому

      @AGoodwinTV there is a silver lining to that at least, that regardless of if they wanna get better genuinely or just to avoid punishment, that they'll try to avoid causing problems, makes it a bit better to put your trust in, and you dont just let their hands go and leave them alone or shun them away in the process, the latter may fail to do so more, but it's different than someone that just doesn't want to change

    Now I get the feeling that this episode will be attacked for its animation. But I thought it was fine. Nothing spectacular but if there’s a place to hold back the animation it’s during this preparation phase of the war. I standby this being the most rushed part of the entire story. And I don’t blame Horikoshi too much because of the manga being stuck if it was going to extend or not. And it was the 2nd big wave of threats sent at Horikoshi. (I’ll just continue to say don’t threaten creators. There’s no winners)
    Toga’s dreams and home are just beyond disturbing. And I think this is when I officially started suspecting Toga and Monoma were related. (I was not correct) But it showed her family had run for it, Curious in season 5 told us she was the eldest of her siblings. And then I started to realize Monoma and Toga were NEVER on the same field together. And I started seeing their similarities in appearance, quirk, and a few mannerisms. And I just COMMITTED to it. Probably one of my least favorite theories I’ve done nowadays. I hyper-focused too hard on it. It prevented me from enjoying parts of the story. So I’m going to give Toga extra attention this time around.
    Dabi setting ablaze the home and burying what both she and her family had left behind just to show that to her, that part of her life shouldn’t matter anymore. The world getting destroyed means there won’t be anything to return to. It’s her life now that matters. Her anger at the heroes over the death of Twice. And Dabi supplied her with the means to exact that revenge. We narrowly avoided the full force getting unleashed when Hawks killed Twice. And we likely even MORE narrowly avoided the quirk double being apart of the collection of AFS. A devastating weapon to go undetected considering the heroes were IMMENSELY wary of Twice and his quirk. Dabi once again playing the real long game. He had that on him waiting to give it to Toga at the right time in her emotional stability and got it to her when she returned from her fight with Uraraka. Probably would’ve been useless in the 1st war because she was going through her grief and interpretations on what Twice meant to her during it. Sometimes you just don’t know what you have til you lose it.
    Seeing Shigaraki overcoming the quirk doomsday theory is super cool to me honestly. Garaki told us in the lab that people didn’t buy into his theory but then AFO came whole heartedly believing in it. Which tracks. There are few quirks LESS stable than OFA and AFO. Deku and All-Might made OFA stable long after it had any ability to, and now AFS is making a boosted AFO collection stable. And in this freaky body amalgamation that has Spinner just questioning is he looking at Shigaraki at all. It’s just beyond freaky.
    Spinner is TRULY out of his depth. He wanted to exact Stain’s will in season 3, and he has slowly been guided away from everything he ever wanted, but still told he’s worshipped for the thought. And that thought will lead the riots. Every relationship he’s built is mangled. Shigaraki was his best friend he inspired and got inspired by into action. And he told the MLA himself he was nothing on his own. And now he’s getting entrusted with the will of an entire movement he feels he has no place in. And all he does is step forward not because of his own belief, but because there’s too much pushing him in this direction. And he can’t stop. But he’s clearly thoroughly disturbed.
    The kids search for jailbreakers as they train and do what little they can to prepare. I THINK what Mineta is trying to ask Deku is does he want to get whatever rotten thoughts off his chest so he doesn’t carry it stacked up again. It is what caused his breakdown in the rogue arc so I give kudos to Mineta here. But all Deku wants is to talk to Uraraka and thank her. Not like his mind will be any less settled by the battle and he still carries the tremendous burden of being the biggest fighter. Even if he’s not at maximum strength just yet.
    And the final plans for the 2nd war have arrived. It’s time to leave UA. No one gives Deku a hard time as he leaves even with there being more spies here. (Hard to get into my foot. But I guess AFO more doesn’t want his own resources used on the barrier.) And everyone says their goodbyes to their loved ones. And the people involved with the mob before all look concerned for their sakes. They are literally watching these 20 kids go out to fight literal oblivion. And doing it with a smile on their face no less. (Which is a great All-Might parallel. Except now people can see behind the smile. Or the circumstances surrounding it.)
    The kids move into Troy (ah yes the most famously secure city. Fooled by a wooden horse and burned inside out.) And they can only settle among themselves and spend their last day hanging out together. Deku takes the time to thank Uraraka. She saved him more than ANYONE ELSE. She is HIS hero. And Deku lets loose grade A flirting to support her. And he even supports her thinking about Toga’s mindset and how she thinks. Even though she doesn’t want to. She’s committing to Deku’s philosophies as well thinking there might be something there. And I love when she wants to shut it out Deku says don’t. That’s a gut feeling because there MIGHT be something there. I’m walking up TO THE DEVIL and I’m going to reach through hatred that destroyed the country. And Uraraka says it well. We’re both weird.
    AFO has one of the lowkey funniest interactions with the Aoyama’s. I remember in my denial of Nezu not being a villain I said what are the Aoyama’s going to do? CALL HIM ON HIS PHONE?! What do you do? Hello can I speak to the devil? It’s very important. And when AFO does EXACTLY that, even HE says, this is a stupid method. That cracks me up so much. Well at least we’re in agreement. But it does have nice lore to have an ancient lie detecting quirk.
    And then we get ANOTHER chat with Aoyama. He’s out and about. I do like how he shows what kind of world AFO would make in charge. The recreation of the Great Depression where he’s the sole benefactor is a nice way to show not just he CAN take over the world but also in a way where it’s LITERALLY been done before. The monopolies of the era and the organized crime were all powerful back then. And the desperation only furthered their power. And AFO praises his stalling tactics and the accuracy of AFO’s ambitions.
    Deku powers up and it sends a shockwave on THAT alone. We haven’t seen that since All-Might in season 2 just waltzing up to Bakugo and Deku in final exams. To a lesser extent but he’s KNOCKING on that door. I think on that alone I’ll say Deku is more likely at 75% than 60%. He needs the full 100 for AFO but every moment he fights he stockpiles and controls more. And he has a LOT of fighting to do. Aoyama betrays his betrayal BAFFLING AFO right as he warps every villain, Nomu, and resource he has to take on Deku. And Monoma warps in a bunch of heroes to overcome him. Last war was Infinity War. This time it’s Endgame.

    11:54 I get that people have an aversion to the redemption trope given how reductive it's usually portrayed, especially in shounen, but I think this series does a good job navigating between the two extremes of killing and laundering. Not gonna spoil anything, of course, but I love the direction this goes.

      I think it's always possible but it would take a lot from him that we're not seeing and have never seen, as sail_inh pointed out. At this point Deku saving Shigaraki seems somewhat obvious, I suspect he will save AFO as well, or at the very least make the choice not to kill him.

I feel like if we really have to change hero society for the better, it’s best to start with people like Toga and Shigaraki, the people who were wronged by it. At least, that’s how I feel. I'm probably an outlier but I just don't feel sympathy for Toga. she's a psychotic murderer who has bled out dozens of people (bleeding out is terrible way to go) and her tragic backstory is...she was told not to kill things by her parents, that she needed to control herself. Like all children need to learn. She's bitterly rejecting a fundamental part of being human, which is not just giving in to her animal impulses. Is it tragic that she obviously has some kind of disorder that gives her violent urges? yes! but saying 'society needs to change' when toga's main thing is bleeding people to death...no. toga needed to change, and she refused. "Be who you want to be" is Toga's motto, and look how many have died because of Toga being who she wants to be. People shouldn't just "be who they want" they should seek to be better. I can relate to not fitting in with society, but its selfish to demand that the whole world change instead of you.

    • @ellie7252
      @ellie7252 2 дні тому +1

      i don't see why there can't be a middle ground where both have to change. society, and the people close to her rejecting her instead of teaching her how to cope with her Quirk (which functions as a metaphor for neurodivergence; general mental disorders infact. could also be seen as a metaphor for her being a lesbian in a heteronormative society) is why she never learned to deal with her urges in a healthy way. i feel complete sympathy for Toga. it's the adult's responsibility to teach a child right and wrong; screaming and shouting at them and calling them a freak that they never should have created isn't how you do that. if you or i were her, we would end up stabbing someone we love to drink their blood too from this psychological abuse and neglect. so, that happens and you're her, and if other people feel no sympathy for you like you to her now? of course you'd turn out the same way as her because of it. that very apathy is why she turned out bad, with noone except Uraraka only NOW deciding that it may be good to reach out to her, after all her subconscious cry for help.
      yes, her being a murderer is bad. but why is 'psychotic' part of what makes her irredeemable in your eyes (or perhaps you don't mean irredeemable, but just that you currently don't feel sympathy for her? I wouldn't know.). she can't help being psychotic, which is why she needs psychological help. if you were psychotic, how would you feel if people gave up on you, yaknow? ok, then you might become a psychotic murderer. it's not because of psychosis she became a murderer, it's because people treated her like less than human FOR her psychosis.
